cook. on the left, the bay bridge was turned on back in march on the right the bridge tonight after hundreds of lights just stopped working. sharon, what is the problem? >> reporter: well, i will let you take a closer look right here. you can tell some of these lights are stuck they simply won't turn off. most of those strands are in the middle of the bridge. it is a nightly show on the bay bridge, 25,000 lights, dance and dazzle from dusk until 2:00 a.m. but if you look closely, you can see hundreds of lights aren't working right. you can't switch them on or you can't switch them off. >> it is sad, a city like san francisco, so adept with technology, can't make a couple lights go right. >> reporter: regular maintenance, eliminated a problem that peaked in mid-may. organizers are troubleshooting. they are doing visual inspections, studying data from the computer brain in the center anchorage and examining weather patterns. the bay bridge, it may look still from the ground but it is constantly vibrating and subject to salty air from the bay and you know rain and fog, so, it is a pretty harsh environment for electronic and data exempt to live. >> reporter: the $8 million
