Thirteen people were killed and 31 others were injured. Sunday morning, north of palm springs, about a hundred miles east of los angeles. The bus was returning from a casino. A Maintenance Crew had slowed traffic on the interstate just before the crash. A crane was needed to separate a tour bus and tractortrailer on interstate 10 near palm spring, california. The bus plowed into the back of the truck very early sunday morning. In almost 35 years, ive never been to a crash where there is 13 confirmed fatal accidents so its tough. Reporter a pfeiffer told police most of the passengers were sleeping at the time of the crash. First responders used ladders to reach the victims because the door was inaccessible. The trailer, itself, entered about 15 feet into on the bus, the bus was traveling significantly faster than the tractortrailer that it struck from behind. Reporter the bus driver were killed and 13 were killed. Most of the victims were unrestrained and flown through the air and ended up sustaining facial trauma. Reporter police say the 1996 bus was inspected earlier this year. And no mechanical deficiencies were noted. Reporter federal records show the bus Company Involved owned one bus and had one driver. At ts proposed takeover of time warner immediately raised regulatory concerns.
