Reporter a senior Law Enforcement official tells cbs news that rahamis father, mohammed, called his son a terrorist during a heated argument at the familys new jersey home, so heated that police were called to the house. But the father later recanted his statement, and the f. B. I. Never spoke with ahmad rahami lawyer. Today, the f. B. I. Said it conducted internal database reviews, interagency checks and multiple interviews of ahmad rahami, none of which revealed ties to terrorism. After rahami was captured during a shootout with police on monday, investigators found a notebook spattered with blood and pierced by a bullet. One Police Source described the writings as jibberish. Rahami quoted Osama Bin Laden and the americanborn radical cleric anwar alawlaki. Rahami wrote about pipe bombs and cooker bombs in the streets, and oppression by the west. He also wrote about wanting to live in peace. Investigators are still trying to determine if rahami was acting alone, and theyre looking closely at his trips overseas to afghanistan and pakistan. In 2013, rahami stayed in quetta, pakistan, for almost a year, a known hotbed for islamic militants including al qaeda and the taliban. Afghanistan, where he and his family are from.
