Irma's assault reaches South Florida I'm Pam who sail Fox News you know it's bad there Florida Senator Marco Rubio as hurricane arm barrels through the Florida Keys the storm on a collision course with the state's west coast but it's big enough to impact the entire state where you have Eric and warnings in effect throughout the entire state of Florida except the far western panhandle but hurricane warnings go all the way into Georgia Albany Georgia to ft in towards Waycross in Valdosta Fox meteorologist Rick Reichmuth Erma is a Category 4 a fox as Adam Housley is at the hotel in Key Largo designed to withstand a Category 5 hurricane they're coming up we could have another 12 hours and we haven't had power boat and if you are going out of the Northern you're going to have power. Or God God will send her to get there the more you want to run and it is different don't we do we want other heard the report you don't hear we haven't read it for what the diverted going are the code in this case the hurricane absolutely Latapy and the power outage is just topping 1000000 according to officials who warn it could stay out for some time the wind is one thing the water is another storm surge has the highest potentially kill the most amount of people and cause the most amount of damage Fema administrator Brock long he's hoping that everyone who should have a back you waited did so when they were supposed to they make a last minute ditch to try to get to a shelter or into a facility to withstand the winds and in some cases the water starts to rise and they get trapped because they didn't heed the warning early and that's that's my greatest concern sharing that concern Governor Rick Scott because water is going to come in very quickly it's going to cover your 1st floor potentially. Or more and then is eventually it's going to come out I don't know how you're going to survive that both men on Fox News Sunday fair and balanced. It's raining lightly in St Petersburg Florida where later a direct hit from Hurricane Arma could happen with that in mind many people have gotten out it is a complete ghost town no humans in sight except for a random person here and there on a sidewalk or some business owners who decided to say you know there's been some just devastating a very saddening news for the Tampa Bay area in the past day because originally Erma was expected to land on the southern portion of Florida and then perhaps very east up the east coast so a lot of attention paid to the east coast but now it is headed west and as we've been reporting the governor here saying there could be a storm surge of 13 feet Tampa Bay's own fire chief telling us that this is the strongest storm to hit this area in a generation and it really could be catastrophic Fox's math fan in St Pete as hurricane Arma lashes Florida the State Department is out with a statement about Americans who remain stranded in the Caribbean officials say evacuation flights out of say Martin are suspended because of bad. The grad former Marine it's John or Eve guys it's hard we care John Reeves is getting it done let's Oxon News Alert Hurricane Earl has made landfall in the Florida Keys packing sustained winds of 130 miles per hour I'm Gerrit how Pern there are more than a 1000000 Florida customers without power as this powerful storm lashes much of the state 100 mile per hour winds gusting in parts of Miami on the eastern side of this hurricane it's now expected to move up the west coast of Florida with huge storm surges 10 to 12 feet expected in places like Naples all the way up the western gulf coast side of Florida potentially into some big metropolitan areas as well Tampa and St Petersburg St Petersburg is where we find Fox News Radio's Jeff Manassero and Jeff this is going to last an awfully long time it seems like as hurricane Arma now makes its crawl about 8 miles per hour up the western side of the state at this point Jared officials here resort owners homeowners have done everything they can to do to be prepared for this and now they wait they await Hurricane Irma and what she's going to bring with her broaches winds and her. The storm surge that you mentioned could be as high as 12 feet right now we're at the trade winds Island Grand Resort in St Pete on St Pete Beach and these beautiful white beaches we don't know what those are going to look like next to us is a big parking lot normally filled with tourists cars it is now loaded with all of the the Enron to charites and. Garbage can that are normally on the beach for resort goers or people who are you're visiting that's all going to projectiles you know their time. I down but I'm looking at them and just the foul is of pieces of beach for nature it's all going to go it's gone it's been it's those high winds get here I see condos that are boarded up. They're expecting a big one this is a mandatory evacuation zone here in Pinellas County with some 25270000 residents that live here most of them are gone there is a. Of accusation center and that's got about 1520000 people we're told by the man Ellis County Sheriff's Department we have about 70 deputies staying at this hotel about 40 employees that are going to watching this hotel and just trying to keep things shored up as Hurricane Irma comes to shore and one of the things that we'll be watching here throughout the night is the high tide that's about 3 am And that's that's when that's when the hurricane or my is supposed to hit this island this is a direct bull's eye and this this this resort these people here they have not experienced this ever ever and they don't know what to expect they're holding out hope that that most of this island will will survive but it's going to be underwater a large portion of it. That is really the concern is we talk a lot about the winds and these images that we're seeing of these trees being bent that some cases Oh most 90 degree angles in southeast Florida in Miami in particular right now is is one aspect of it that's the immediate aspect but to your point it sounds like this storm surge could really be what what devastates this this area these these twin cities of Tampa and St Petersburg Well there's not going to be power there they're not expecting to have power and whether or not it's out for days or weeks that is that's to be decided and her name is hurricane around and she's going to decide what happens to this region and Ellis County. Over across the bay in Tampa in Hillsborough County where mandatory evacuations are also under way and if you haven't gotten out you need to heed the advice from Governor Rick Scott and emergency officials to to get out of here if you can because at some point it's going to be futile and you're going to have to hunker down where you're at and if there's an emergency you can't call 911 because emergency officials will have exhausted everything they can do to prepare and to get people to get people out of here to get people to safety before it becomes too dangerous for them the Right now I'm looking out at at the Gulf Coast I can see a lot of beach erosion and it's only. You know 10 o'clock and this thing is going to be moving in and the waves are picking up the palm prongs as you mentioned already going in some cases with these wind gusts of 45 miles at a 45 degree angle. The major causeways are now shut down to St Petersburg West to St Peter's where you can get out of here there's still there's still time to get out of here to get back to Tampa but they won't let you back in because it's going to be too dangerous and you know we talked about that the impact of this the hurricane it is a massive storm it covers a huge swath of area there are $67.00 counties in the state of Florida 58 of them are under a hurricane warning that goes from Miami Dade down in the southeast part Miami which is getting just hit very hard right now all the way up the eastern side into the volcanic Duvall County in Nassau County Nassau County is the northernmost county on the Atlantic side it borders Georgia and then you move along Interstate 10 west all the way out the Tallahassee under a hurricane warning you head south from there to the Big Bend area and then the panhandle of these coastal areas the entire state that there's really no place Jeff that may be spared here. It's so big and so massive it never experience this where you've got the entire peninsula of Florida and one way or another being affected either by hurricane force or tropical force winds and then there's a storm surge that wall of water that when the tail winds come around in this hurricane it's just going to push this wall of water upwards of 10 to 12 feet high in certain locations right here by 10 feet. Right on the right on the island right now we're about 4 or 5 feet above sea level so that gives you another 6 day treat to work with and so anybody who's staying here they've got to get up high and they've got to they've got to secure themselves and didn't try to get to it the inside of the building. That's all we're doing but it is it's a dangerous storm and already it's picking up and it's early and it's in its infancy in terms of how it's going to affect where we are in panellist County and over across to Tampa and and upwards so people are prepared they've they've been preparing for this for a long time but as the mayor said here and I St Petersburg they're not expecting that things. It is going to be a very dangerous situation stay safe Jeff Manasseh So right now in St Petersburg we will continue to check in Sarah Huckabee Sanders the press secretary at the White House says said that President Trump spoke to governors of Alabama Georgia South Carolina and Tennessee this morning the president spoke in numerous times to Governor Scott and Senator Rubio of Florida over the last week as has chief of staff John Kelly the chief of staff also spoke to Senator Nelson of Florida this morning the president and vice president are receiving another briefing this morning that gives you the context of how widespread the devastation destruction could be with President Trump reaching out really to to every governor in the southeast Alabama Georgia South Carolina Tennessee could all feel impacts from Hurricane Earl they are feeling the impacts in the Florida Keys that is where Fox News Channel's Adam Housley has been riding out this storm. And actually attend instead to South Beach Tom Butler speaking in South Beach Miami which is getting a lashing right now from the storm. Ok I did. Not say that I would. You are listening to breaking news coverage of Hurricane Irma I am Jared helper and on Fox News Radio this storm has made landfall as a category 4 in the Florida Keys 130 mile per hour sustained winds gusts of up to 160 miles per hour as this storm is expected now to stay on its slow climb about 8 miles per hour north northwest making landfall later today maybe 10 night along the Florida gulf coast along of the western side of the peninsula but this storm has already brought down an awful lot of power lines a 1000000 people plus without power in the state of Florida 100 mile per hour wind gust in parts of Miami. This is a storm that is packing an awful lot of punch there is still an awful lot of uncertainty as well about where this storm may end up is I have the storm wobbles now as it makes its way beyond the Florida Keys and closer to mainland Florida let's bring in Casey Bartholomew He's the news director of Fox News Radio affiliate w.f. S.x. In southwest Florida Ok so you have found some safe harbor in Orlando right yeah we were mandatorily evacuated the radio station that we work it out. Was to the safe area my condo was in a safe area yesterday at about 10 30 in the morning. We made a break or I've been struck and I spent some time living and working for several years in Jacksonville so I had some history with tropical storms but I've never seen anything like we're seeing now 67 counties in the state of Florida 58 of which are under a hurricane warning I mean explain to me what what this is like. That's one of the important things and you know a lot of people are in areas especially where I live in southwest Florida for Myers where nobody has ever seen anything like this the governor even came out and said nobody has ever seen a storm like this because you survive Charley just because you survived. Hurricane Andrew in 1902 doesn't mean you're going to survive this the storm at its peak was 3 times the size of Hurricane Andrew and Hurricane Andrew devastated Miami so there's a lot of people hunkering up here and the mood out here really for those of us who can look at the graphics and see the maps and see what's coming it's really kind of terrifying that's the best way I can put it and you know hearing the stories of people who think they're going to sit this one out. You're not I mean that's just all there is to it you're simply not Fort Myers may take a brunt of this is the storm on its current track which would indicate what is your expectation when you return home the 4 Myers. 1 Gosh I wish I could give a clear answer here you know a lot of the graphical of the fun t.v. That they're showing shows the storm hitting Naples Fort Myers is just north really of Naples and. With storm surges depending on where you are anywhere from 3 feet to 15 feet. I'm going to try to head back on Tuesday I'm not sure I'm going to be able to get all the way there. Hope to but I think this is going to be a situation where I might be able to get pretty close to home but people who left their cars their cars are going to be in different places there's probably going to be building for it could be debris everywhere and that's really the big thing that people don't realize it's the after effects of a hurricane that really cause the most damage to human life. At this point because nobody's ever seen anything like this I'm really not 100 percent sure but fingers are crossed that I will be able to get the condition of my radio station and the condition of my condominium is all I mean it's a lot of anxiety I know in Orlando and we've been speaking with our correspondent Evan Brown who's who's there as well high anxiety a lot of people evacuated to Orlando to find out that Orlando is also going to be lashed it appears with hurricane force winds. We're going to get to tonight starting at about 1 am We're going to get about 74 mile an hour winds which you know granted is better than 150 miles but we're going to get those women also in Orlando what we're dealing with right now is tornadoes that could pop up at any time you know the danger of those obviously as you know is that you can't see when a tornado is going to pop up so it's kind of a really tense. 2 for a lack of a better way to put it here I mean I'm looking out for my hotel room I'm looking out on the I 4 they call that they're the main thoroughfare and where it's normally packed wall the wall cars because you're in the area of the attractions like the universal exceed I've seen one car go by in the past 23 minutes but it's just not a lot of traffic there so. It's going to it's going to be pretty dangerous here as well not as bad as Southwest Florida for but it's going to be going to be pretty hairy. There until about probably 1 o'clock Monday morning local radio is so important in situations like that and I know how important the work that you've been doing in Fort Myers has been the last week a lot of warnings coming out from officials and people in Florida are a hardy lot sometimes they think they can ride these out what's your sense of of how people have handled these warnings these dire warnings that have come out from from emergency officials 5. Honestly my my opinion is that people could have it a little bit quicker. They waited until the last minute and many of them did obviously I did too so I know better but kind of my job. You know they had to open up a lot of emergency shelters and then they had open or emergency shelters and then they had to open more emergency shelters because people kept popping up and you know when you open an emergency shelter you've got to make sure you have the people for you have to make sure you have you know because their safety concerns there and the like and when they have to throw all the stuff up at the last minute like that because so many people are showing up in the last minute that can create some have a connection to create some problems when you when you get a warning like this I know that you know that there's always somebody who survives I know there's always somebody who's going to be interviewed who made it but those people are the you know the exception if you get a warning like this you're getting the warning from the people who have looked at all the maps who have looked at all the trends who have seen all the graphics and they know what they're talking about when the warning comes up that's the time to go no doubt about that Casey Bartholomew is the news director for our radio affiliate w f f x in Fort Myers he is safely in Orlando stay safe we will check in with you Casey as we continue to follow Hurricane Erma making landfall in the Florida Keys about an hour and a half ago you're listening to Fox News Radio. You are listening to the breaking news coverage of Hurricane Irma I am Jared helper and joined by our team of reporters and forecasters spread across the state of Florida Hurricane Earl made official landfall in the 9 o'clock hour in the Florida Keys with sustained winds of more than 130 miles per hour gusts topping that and even in Miami Dade County we are seeing images of wind gusts that are near 100 miles per hour a massive storm that is making its slow move now north northwest expected to impact heavily the western side of Florida anywhere from Fort Myers all the way up to Tampa St Pete. Eater's burg even if further north of that into the panhandle of Florida along the Gulf Coast a storm that is so large in fact that the National Weather Service in Peachtree City Georgia issued a tropical storm warning for the city of Atlanta it's the 1st time a tropical storm warning has ever been issued for the metro Atlanta area high wind warnings have been issued in previous storms what a tropical storm warning means is that tropical storm conditions are expected within the next 36 hours that would mean winds reaching 30 to 40 miles per hour gusts up to 55 miles per hour anough to damage porches and sheds bring down power lines so that is how widespread hurricane Erma is expected to be into the early part of this week a affecting areas as far away from the Florida Keys as the Atlanta metro area more than a 1000000 people in the City Florida are now without power of 3rd of the State or so is in an evacuation area Florida Governor Rick Scott spoke a few moments ago with Fox News Channel Shepard Smith Governor how are things across your say. I know a lot of people are asking me what they can do for us 1st and say a prayer for every person in our state I know a lot of people want to donate you can go to disaster type text and disaster at $22.00 and make a $10.00 donation and as this goes on we're going to do it there's a lot of cleanup willing more volunteer so you can Deval go to volunteer Florida dot org But I've talked to a friend out of the keys they're getting hammered right now I'm really worried about the storm surge down there as it as the storm goes through my hometown is Naples Florida we're supposed to get 10 to 15 feet above ground level of storm surge so I'm worried about them I watch the that. Cameras all across the state this morning people are not on the roads which I hope because this is going to go up our West Coast hit Fort Myers and Tampa and Sarasota St Pete I hope people are in their shelters are in high ground and we're going to do everything we can to take care of every person will not bear one expense. We want everybody to survive this storm and then if you have a problem afterwards our National Guard our 1st responders fish and wildlife we will do everything we can to take care of you Governor it's been quite a thing to see you jumping all over the state for the past few days with what almost hourly update for the people of Florida how are you and your team holding up there's a long road ahead for all these 1st responders. We have a really good team here we've gone through disasters we do a lot of preparation you know we care about every every person in our state so I know everybody's working hard and we know that this is I spoke to our whole team this morning this is a long road I talked to the president this morning I've talked to theme administrator Brock long and I talked to Secretary of h.h.s. Duke and everybody is committed to do everything they can the president said whatever you need he said I would do everything I can to get to the resources we're going to do everything we can to keep everybody safe but it's going to be work it's going to be we're going to have a lot of rain we're going to storm surge is just devastating the winds are you can see the winds that you're showing those are going to be devastating but I know everybody's going to show up you know Charley back at 0 for northern Captiva and then Wilma is a Cat 3 in 2005 but since then some notable exceptions Florida's fared pretty well never seen anything that hit the hole but it's a little like this personally. There's nothing that's been this big I mean this coast and here's where here's the difference Typically if we have a hurricane it will hit. A you know coming from one coast to the other so you can also prepare assets on the other coast we can't do that as much this time because it's impacting our and our entire state we've really never had this amount of storm surge before I went through Andrew and 25 years ago I was in the hospital business that way hospitals we had back way to hospital south because we thought that it was going to go north and it changed the last last half hour we had to hand the patients for 10 hours to keep them alive people are going to show up to take care of other people in the state I'm going to be very focused I know everybody is keeping everybody alive and safe and shepherd as I started we need everybody's prayers a few days ago Governor people along for all of the Hollywood were looking at this storm saying we got to get out maybe we'll go over to Fort Walton Beach because this storm is coming up the East Coast that's what they thought of what it looked like now you've got a bunch of evacuees one that I know of very well sitting in Fort Walton Beach wondering in the Panhandle Why was this going to be our storm where do I go now what do you tell them. Well we're we have we have very good county emergency management teams in the state follow the evacuation orders in your area we have over 400 shelters open will open more shelters in the northern part of the state if we need them we will do everything we can to keep you say that you've just got to continue to listen to what local officials are saying we care about every family so if somebody somebody happened to to move to Destin or Fort Walton Beach in this and we end up having an impact and that we will figure out how to keep you safe we'll create the shelters will do everything we can to get you safe. And that's Florida Governor Rick Scott speaking with Shepard Smith shop now speaking with Adam Housley the Fox News reporter He's in Key Largo the Florida Keys which is just getting hammered right now but idea to do unless you're obviously in a good situation but Shepherd here when I walked back it was an area we can walk through whether it's really no flying debris Thankfully I thought we took the can't take the photo but I look down the coastline on the bass side there is damage all up and down the coast you can see the power of these winds and the gusts that continue to go over 100 miles an hour trees snapped everywhere parked the roofs ripped off signs of come down and the rain is just battering up along with those winds so you get the wind and the rain there so we're it's going to be the flying debris of course we're lucky we're in a spot where we're protected if you look out there anybody who decided if it throughout the shepherd would not be doing it smarter or think bad of you they with the 2nd w.s.p. And itself or we mention this crane that has collapsed in downtown Miami there it is let's listen examples throughout south Florida asked about the morning and you know that's a point that's been very scary for a lot of people to see all those cars traction sides and we saw a lot of pictures of rebar that rises to this grain that down we don't know about damage or injuries there but we know much of downtown is evacuated Adam you don't see a lot of people out about there either do you. Accept that might hit the hurricane I got to tell you I haven't seen anybody out walking up that's a 1st for me that's a smart maneuver on their part I will tell you that for people that live here in Key Key Largo and all the way down we drove down several islands and then around here for 3 or 4 days the people that live here I'm number of them I one after another who stay for Andrew said they weren't staying and got out or I talked to the sergeant for the Montreaux County Sheriff's Department last night he was telling us also that he was very pleased with the evacuation separate and healthfully in Key Largo where the trouble is just beginning one side and you heard the intensity of the storm there in Key Largo which was just a little bit north of where this. The storm made landfall with 130 mile per hour winds as a Category 4 hurricane Irma now churning closer to the mainland of Florida expected to make landfall later today or tonight in southwest Florida the west coast of Florida where there is no imminent danger of storm surge the National Hurricane Center is warning folks who have not gotten out of there that their time to evacuate is running out we will return to that region continue to follow this story as a hurricane Erma makes its landfall along the Florida coast this is Fox News Radio . Streams. You were listening to Fox News Radio breaking news coverage of Hurricane Irma a powerful hurricane category 4 hurricane making landfall coming up about an hour and a half ago 2 hours ago in the Florida Keys and now packing a powerful punch right now in Miami where there are reports of wind gusts around 100 miles per hour we heard a few moments ago from Shepard Smith as well that there may have been a crane collapse in downtown Miami will continue to follow all of those developments as they happen I'm Jared how long with our team in Florida let's head back to Florida Fox News Radio's Eben Brown who is in Orlando which is becoming a home for a lot of South Floridians seeking refuge from really both coasts now in South Florida about the Atlantic and the Gulf Coast have been expected to feel. Packed either in wind or still a storm surge from this hurricane. And we're. Where we are getting the rain here already it's we have a light rain but it's pretty steady and it's teams to be getting a bit more dense as time goes on and yes there are plenty of families here with their dogs at this hotel in Disney Springs many from south Florida many from southwest Florida but even people from the Atlantic coast and even closer to Cape Canaveral who were told to evacuate because they are in coastal regions that do wind will and are expected to get storm surge of one man is Dennis a woman off who had to leave his beach home on Cocoa Beach here live right on the beach White House a couple months ago right on the water. How do you think about that investment it's a little bit scary because. You know when I go look at it we're definitely in zone a and I think they rate it there's a special rating they put on the deed that basis as you are prone to flooding so I think if if it's a 5 foot swell we're Ok but in the over 5 and 7 feet that house is gone and that's a reality for a lot of coastal homeowners not even necessarily on the coast but even a few miles inland because these surging waters from the sea whether it's on the Atlantic side or the Gulf side will inundate the coastal the Intercoastal waters and then inundate those those neighborhoods even for inland so for a lot of people this is not just an inconvenience of having to get out of the way this is a potentially life threatening or life damaging life altering scenario where they could lose their home and next will begin the fight with the insurance companies to try to recover damages you know we have seen unfortunately have been the last several weeks what these storms these hurricanes can leave behind in flooding you spent the better part of a week in the Houston area covering a hurricane Harvey it only to return home and have to deal with what's happening in South Florida with our mum. But if you can describe some of that I guess I want to say similarities because we don't know what kind of storm surge is going to be left behind from but these types of storms have been on the minds of a lot of Americans in recent weeks Oh certainly and in Harvey was a bit of a different scenario for depending on where you live if you were in Corpus Christi if you were in. Some of those towns along the Texas coast storm surge was definitely an issue and that's that was the most destructive seeing some parts to the east were damaged by winds but when you got to Houston the issue was really the rain the storm didn't move at all in fact it sat practically on top of Houston just continually dumping rain while being able to get recharged by the Gulf of Mexico so you had 5 feet of water in 4 and a half days or whatever the statistic was that left you know a lot of a lot of neighborhoods that are very far inland and not storm surge prone looking as if they did have storm surge one neighborhood in the woodlands or near the woodlands which is north of Houston not only got its 5 feet of rain but the the creeks nearby swelled and flooded so they ended up with 10 feet of water in a very far inland neighborhood that was just really not something anyone could could conceptualize a few days before that so tropical weather can really just wreak havoc that you you can't you can't quite imagine that if there is a silver lining it with Irma it would be that this is a much more traditional moving hurricane it's not expected to linger over any one area so much so that if you saw this report for the 1st time ever there is a tropical storm warning issued now for metro Atlanta which means they expect tropical storm force winds and rain in the next 36 hours so we would expect our men to sort of run the course of these hurricanes where they leave a pattern of destruction but get out of the way pretty quick right and for much of floor. The issue won't really be rain although it is raining you know it's raining Plenty was the wind of the storm surge as the storm moves further north and goes into Georgia obviously storm surge is not an issue for northern Georgia but but wind and rain will be and if it does stall out and does dump rain it can you know it could cause flooding and that's what the folks of Georgia north Georgia will have to deal with. There's a lot of uncertainty still about where Hurricane Earl will go next and Brown is following it for us in Orlando we'll continue to check in with bring in Kristin good when our social media reporter Christin it's a. Lot of videos being shared. Sorry we don't have Kristen just yet but really to reiterate what we were saying with Eben is there is a lot of uncertainty associated with this storm in the sense of where it goes beyond Now the Florida Keys and really it could be a matter of 10 to 15 to 20 miles that makes all the difference for storm surge whether it's minimal storm surge or whether it gets up to that 10 or 15 feet range which is a devastating amount of water that's on top of of. Sea level so you talk about you know your average person 6 feet tall or whatever twice twice that height you 1st 2nd 3rd stories of some structures is going to be the concern for hurricane Irma and whether that goes more east more west is really going to be critical for so many of these coastal communities and then moving forward as we've talked about nearly every county in the state of Florida is under some sort of hurricane watch or early warning they expect a lot of wind category one strength winds still 74 miles per hour to reach areas pretty far inland pretty far removed from where these types of storms usually develop and as we've been talking about now the warning the tropical storm warning for metro Atlanta for the 1st time ever so this storm is going to continue to cause an awful lot of an awful lot of anxiety over the next 2448 hours let's go now to Christine good when our social media reporter and person what are we learning from folks who are documenting this. Video is shared on Twitter show the full force of hurricane Armas destruction one video I'm seeing online shows ways in storm surge that a ring the coast near Miami thank you winds and also seeing video is of some roads in Miami totally submerged it's unclear. If this is rain water or storm surge in Key West Florida the National Weather Service tweeting the water level is now 3 feet above normal trending photos appear to show a high rise crane collapsed on top of the roof of a building in a downtown Miami area National Weather Service twitting high rise buildings in Miami are likely experiencing wind gusts close to 100 miles per hour and vising residents to stay away from windows Florida Governor Rick Scott tweeting for folks to charge phones while they still have power to make sure emergency alert settings are also enabled the Florida Division of Emergency Management tweeting during a disaster sending text messages is usually faster than making phone calls as phone lines are often overloaded the Red Cross tweeting overnight over 130000 people sought refuge from hurricane Arma and government and Red Cross evacuation centers across 6 states and 1st daughter Ivanka Trump tweeting Sending love and prayers to our brothers and sisters in Florida Karen Parker saying good when keeping track of social media and some good information there about the number of evacuations the type of assistance that the Red Cross and other organizations are providing for so many people in the state of Florida who have evacuated close to the more than a quarter of the population living in some area that was under a an evacuation order in the state of Florida it will be a massive effort to take care of all of these folks we will continue to cover this storm now approaching in southwest Florida this is Fox News Radio. Here's the i Heart Radio top trending sounds good on the countdown going up to the number 5 this week is a college featuring read and brazen teller. Imagine radio today. South Florida takes a beating from hurricane Irma I'm Pam who sail Fox News What's scary is the unbelievable storm surge of Florida Governor Rick Scott as are my cruises over the Florida Keys bringing heavy rain and wind. Up to 130 miles per hour I'm really worried about the storm surge down there as it as the storm goes through my hometown is Naples Florida we're supposed to get 10 to 15 feet above ground level of storm surge so I'm worried about them while speaking to Fox News Governor Scott urged Americans to pray for everyone in Florida the Keys could get socked with surge on both sides of the storm the storm surge is going to be greatest right on the east side of that I were it's pushing that water up over the keys that's where we're going to see that 5 to 10 feet of surge above ground level and on the west side of the. Key West is going to actually see their strongest storm surge after the eye goes by from the Gulf side Michael Brannon with the National Hurricane Center worsening conditions in South Florida could be a preview of what's to come farther north Fox's Eben Brown is live in Orlando. Pam this hotel here at Disney is hosting refugees and their dogs Dennis Allman off left his beach house on Cocoa Beach on the Atlantic coast near Cape Canaveral So I think if if there's a 5 foot swell we're Ok but in the over 5 and 7 feet that house is gone Meanwhile the weather here is getting a bit worse as time goes on the rain is getting a bit more.
