Police contacted organizer to ensure they knew about the attack and asked to be called immediately for anything out of the ordinary. Irish bank tloes an enormous party every year. Just hours ago donald trump defeated hes postponing tomorrows scheduled announcement of his running mate because of the deadly attack in nice. Hes picked mike pence for the vp spot. We are joined live now with local reaction to the choice. Laura. Reporter mike pence did spark controversy last year when he signed a religious freedom bill in indiana that opened the door for discrimination against same sex couples but since then hes been quiet and conservative. This time hes ruling with his head rather than his heart. Reporter it may not be the boldest move but perhaps the smart one for donald trump, selecting indiana governor mike pence as his running mate. Governor mike pence is dish water when it comes to speaking but he comes with things that donald trump needs. He describes him as a cristian, conservative and republican in that order. Reporter is pence too conservative, especially on social issues like abortion and gay rights for bay area residents. We are more moderate on the issues but to be fair i think theres a large number of voters that maybe were not so excited about trump and were more excited about cruz that i think well be more attracted to the ticket because of this. Reporter pence has broad experience in politics and public office. Having served more than a decade in congress before becoming the governor of indiana. And for all his conservative credentials pence has shown the ability to buck trumps thinking tweeting back in december calls to ban muslims from entering the u. S. Are offensive and unconstitutional. Theres a sense that pences calm may counter balance trumps rhetoric. I think the difference between donald trump and michael pence is the difference between a saturday night jazz singer and somebody who sings in the sunday chore. Reporter probably not his vp pick. Frontrunners Newt Gingrich and Chris Christie would be likely candidates for trump cabinet members. The Republican NationalConvention Starts on monday in cleveland, ohio.
