That is what neighbors tell us after a big rig crashed on the street. When the driver tried to free the truck, it rolled down and crashed into a power pole. Neighbors lost electricity and gas. The city says big rigs have to use the streets near their destinations. Were waiting to learn the identify of a woman sleeping in bed when a speeding car crashed into her room. Wayne freedman joins us where it happened. Wayne . Reporter neighbors tell us the victim, a 25yearold woman had been planning to celebrate her engagement this week. She was sleeping in that converted garage over my shoulder last night. The tarp covers the hole through which an suv passed last night, some witnesses tell us it was airborne. To believe it, you need to have seen it or maybe heard it. I heard a crash. I heard, maybe a transformer went off. This. A horrific scene after an suv driven by a 20yearold man ran a stop sign, clipped a car, lost control and plowed through the wall of this garage, landing atop a young woman, sleeping inside. One officer described she appeared to be folded in half at the least. The victim remains in critical condition. Her family revealed little, except to say theyd told the story to police. Theyll handle it. Reporter eight people live signed of the house, which is now yellow tagged with damage. The garage is bulging from the force of the impact. Witnesses and police say the suv may have been going close to 100 miles per hour. There are no skid marks on the street. I have been in this business for a long time and i have seen a lot of collisions. I have never, once, seen a car that struck a house that is completely penetrated the wall, landing inside. Reporter the driver went to the hospital. Police tested him for drugs and or alcohol and intend to charge him with felonious, reckless driving at the least. From san leandro, wayne freedman, abc7 news. Reporter we have details following the death of two people following a hostage drama in san jose. Weve learned the 45yearold suspect was shot and killed by police, investigators say he pointed a gun outside of a home on Camden Avenue yesterday. The hostage, a 53yearold died inside of the home. He had rented a room from the house until being evicted in july. The search is on in bay point for a gunman after a deadly shooting before 6 30. A man was shot and killed. You can see Contra Costa County sheriff investigators looking for evidence. Developing news now on a missing couple. Sam and maria walco at a bank withdrawing money, they were reported missing from home saturday. He was supposed to take maria to the hospital. Sam is 85, maria, 90. Police believe the couple may be driving their faded green 2001 camery with the license plate, here it is. Several people saw a Mountain Lion in sebastapol this afternoon. Police say its in an area that youll see deer and other animals that they hunt. Within of the last 45 minutes we heard the City Attorney filing a lawsuit against monsanto, demanding they pick up the cost to remove pcbs from waterways. The suit claims pcbs are still contaminating local water ways long after being banned in 1979. Oakland is one of a number of city thats filed similar lawsuits against monsanto. San jose city leaders may soon remove limited ride saring companies from access to the airport. Chris nguyen is live on what should be a interesting meeting. Reporter i was just inside city hall. The taxi drivers are stepping up to share their concerns with city council members. They want uber and lyft drivers to be subject to fingerprinting and background checks if theyre going to be operating at the same airport. Outside San Jose City hall, Airport Taxi Drivers stand together to send a message. The city council is considering eliminating fingerprinting from all drivers from companies such as uber and lyft. In its place will be random audits of 1 of the drivers, verifying identifies and review criminal history. Any outstanding warrants would be also checked. Weve tried to carve out a path protecting the publics right to be able to choose which service they want, and were protecting the safety of the public. Cab operators say more must be done to balance the system. If something happens to a customer, its an industry that will be at risk, not only uber. Were going to have to figure out what to do. Theyre obviously heart broken over the boys. This has been an exceptionally emotional experience. Both boys have been treated for head trauma and fractured hips. The Obama Administration tonight is asking the Supreme Court to rule on the president s executive action on immigration. A year ago, the president asserted powers to provide work permits and protection from deportation for nearly 5 million undocumented immigrants in the United States.
