Tiffany wilson is live with local reaction to this tragedy. Tiffany . And dan, teachers do not have words to describe the tragedy of davids death. The superintendent believes that many are still in shock. If you ask what david wong liked you will hear basketball. What he studied, Computer Engineering but asking who he was is a complicated question. How people are dealing with it personally, im not sure they have yet. Its like taking in news right now. David hose to include bible verses. They say this is my commandment that you love one another as i have loved you. Greater love has no one than this than to lay down ones life for his friends. On friday, david died next to his friends. Reading this, and thinking about how this tragedy ended. I dont know if there is any comfort in it. But in the fact he was with friends . I dont know. Fremont christian will dedicate the Outdoor Basketball Court to david he loved playing pick up at lunch. We need to put up something that tells davids story so whether you come here in 5, 10 years you can read this. Sadly this isnt the first time the school memorialized a student. It just wrapped up half an hour ago. One of the more powerful speakers a father of a student killed friday night. Richard martinez is the father of a student doned down at the deli friday night. He called for students to mobilize to try to stop the violence. Not one more also in attendance, parents of george chen, before coming to the stadium they visited a small memorial of flowers and candles outside of the Capri Apartments talking with us about their son last night. We never thought this would happen to our son. Hes a smart, diligent kid he its one of the nicest boys i can imagine. They say their son lived in Student Housing but was visiting friends so they wanted to know where he died we wanted to see the place. They were at the memorial along with parents of the other two young men from the bay area killed at the Capri Apartments last night. Georges parents talked with students there. Hes just the sweetest, loveliest boy. All four years of high school, he did a lot of volunteer work. He helped a lot of people. I dont know why this happened to our son. They said they will do all they can to keep this from happening again. Campuses here in the bay area are remembering their former student killed in the massacre. That is the voice of the principal of lindbrook high school making an announcement as students returned to class for the First Time Since the deadly rampage. One victim, james hong graduated from lind brooke in 2012. Students were invited to go to the library and write messages about james. People are surprised that someone from our school got killed i heard hes a very nice kid its weird to know that could happen to him. James used to work back stage in the drama department. His teacher said he was not a student that sought spotlight but his honesty and efforts in the classroom made him a standout. Preparations under way for a vigil tomorrow at uc berkeley. When george gascone became District Attorney three years ago, he inherited a backlog of murder cases. Some 8 to 9 years old. He was able to clear them, but this was an example of that bold adage, wheels of justice grind slowly. Monica gonzaless 19yearold son was stabbed to death in a party near San Francisco state. Police arrested Martin Martinez the next morning. The murder happened october 28, 2008. Its been almost six years the case has yet to go to trial. Im angry. Sad. And iant take it anymore. I loved my son. I just want stay with us jus tis for him. That is all. Monicas letters to politicians have not been returned she cant make sense out of answers shes heard in pretrial hearings. The defense has other cases, there is not a courtroom. Someone is taking vacation. I personally dont like to see any case sit around for a long time. But the District Attorney says many things complicated case. There have been a succession of prosecutors and request for delays by the prosecutor. Weve been ready to go to trial multiple times. The defense was not. After building for six years have you to wonder, what is going on . Joe toomy says murder cases do take a long time to go to trial, but this is rare. He says long waits take a toll on cops, as well. There is nothing to tell the family. How many times can you tell the family its been delayed . The defendants attorney told us on the phone all parties want this to be concludeed and work towards that goal. But remember, martinez has been in custody the whole time. Toomy says the defendant is not the only one with a right to a speedy trial. The people have a right to a speedy trial. The victims family have a right to a speedy trial. The District Attorney obtained grand jury indictments against martinez on charges related to the case. Solicitation for murder. A new trial date has been set for october.
