Panicked drivers on Market Street trying to get out of the way of a desperate carjacking suspect on the run from police. Watch as the truck appears and barrels backwards into a limousine. The suspect then takes off over the sidewalk. The limo driver wasnt hurt but look at the damage. He was out of control and driving pretty crazy. It was clear this guy had to be stopped. San francisco firefighter saw the chaos returning from the call on the ladder truck. He stopped to help police try to corner the suspect. He stopped the truck and jumped out and he ran eastbound here on grove. By the time he turned around, it was too late. From out of nowhere, the firefighter intercepted the suspect. Attack attack i tackled h the suspect was charged with stealing the truck from a construction site and hitting six cars. Police have this firefighter to thank for the tackdown. It was easy and nobody got hurt. In San Francisco, cornell barnard, abc 7 news. Police arrested two people accused in a double hit and run. Two Police Officers in the cruiser witnessed the first crash in san jose. The driver slammed into the patrol car while speeding away. The officer were not hurt. The other hit and run victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. The suspects were in a stolen car. A San FranciscoPolice Cruiser was hit while officers were responding to a shooting. An officer was taken from the scene in an ambulance. The driver involved did stop. The crash happened a few blocks from the shooting scene. Tonight we now know the name of a woman who died in a violent attack. Erica brian was stabbed to death in the home where she was staying. Her fiveyearold son suffered serious stab wounds. The attacker was released from prison a month ago and he recently met brian. A fire jumps from one home to the next leaving two families looking for a place to stay the night. Nearly 100 firefighters responded to the fire. You can see how intense the flames were in this video. One fire victim rushed home to find flames tearing up from her house. It was right in the middle, the fire itself it was just awful. I couldnt take it all in. A third home had smoke damage. Most of the homes in the Thousand Oaks area have composite or tile roofs. The house where the fire originated had a wooden roof. And 18 people are out of their homes after a fire in the fremont neighborhood. Downed power lines posed an added danger forcing the crews to wait for pg e to shut down electricity. As bad as it was, no one was injured. Crews are rushing to protect a trove of sequoia trees in Yosemite National park. 800 firefighters are working to contain the fire. It is ten miles from the grove. But flames could reach the trees if the fire becomes active. The park remains open but there is no access along highway 120 from the west and Evacuation Orders are in place for 50 homes. The fire has been active along the Northern Edge of the fire. The fire is moving away from the area but there are firefighters in that area. So the Evacuation Order remains in place. The fire has destroyed a home and a duplex and burned 500 square miles and 34 contained. From fire to falling trees. A big one came down without warning in the east bay on glen haven avenue in walnut creek. Alan wang is there. Reporter no injuries because everybody saw this tree leaning. So they got out of the way before any injuries could happen. This is what is left of the old oak tree that is estimated to be about 150 years old. County crews came out here and cleared away part of the tree after it fell earlier this evening. The tree fell on a private driveway and partly on a public road. The crews are only responsible for cutting the parts that protrude on the street. But the homeowner says that the trunk is growing out of the creek. The county came back and said that the creek is privately owned but no one seems to know who owns that part of the creek. The chp said it was a safety hazard because fire trucks may need to get to the homes. So the county cleared a 10foot path and left the rest to the homeowners to figure out. What did the county guy say . He said he didnt know. But he said i dont think its my problem. So its hard to know. Reporter the next step is to go to the Title Company and find out whose problem this really is. Thats what can happen when a giant tree falls in a neighborhood. The huge water main break at ucla just a few moments ago, the valve that had still been gushing water has just been turned off. So the water for the most part is now capped. The officials have upped the estimate of how much water has been lost so far. 20 million gallons. Thats enough to fill more than 400,000 bathtubs. The nearly 3foot pipe that burst was installed in 1921 and when the pipe is working, 75,000 gallons a minute flows through it. It has been just a disaster. But moments ago that valve has been turned off to stop the leak. Alex michaelson has the latest on the clean up and repair. Reporter repair work is finally underway to fix the water main break. The welders are cutting the fittings. Reporter the crews couldnt begin the work until the water stopped flowing. For more than 30 hours, crews couldnt shut off the valves controlling that flow. When you are operating 100yearold valves you have to operate them slowly. Reporter when the pipe burst yesterday it sent water shooting 30 feet into the air. The dwp says more than 20 million gallons of water flowed out. Most of it overwhelming the ucla campus. And looking for the lowest point to settle. Much of the water came to these underground parking lots. Around 900 cars are not allowed to leave them. The water picked up objects like this door and sent them towards the cars. Ive never experienced water coming with this velocity. It was knocking grown firemen down off their feet. Reporter the machines pumping all that water out of the structures are emitting unhealthy levels of Carbon Monoxide. At least three people were hospitalized due to Carbon Monoxide exposure.
