Iselle, hurricane category one hurricane is just about ready to make landfall within the next couple of hours. Let me give you some statistics of the two storms. Hurricane julio is a powerful category three, but thats far off right now. Were looking at iselle which has a center only about 95 miles east southeast of hilo, maximum sustained winds 75 miles per hour. Probably will be a category one hurricane. It will pass over the ill aslad move quickly over the chain of islands over the next couple of days and then Tropical Storm julio moving north of the island. It may be far enough away that it wont deal much of a blow at all to the islands, but once again, expecting landfall from iselle within the next couple of hours. That would be around, oh, 8 00 p. M. Hawaii aleutian standard time. Tropical storm warnings in effect for the remainder of the chain of Hawaiian Islands. Well keep track of it on through the forecast. Let me show you a live picture of turtle bay, on the western side of oahu. About 6 03 p. M. On the island now, three hours behind us, of course. So far things look pretty quiet. That picture is going to change in the next few hours. And certainly those hurricanes have many people here in the bay area trying to get to hawaii a bit on edge, hoping for a vacation. Now, thousands of people who follow an ancient religion are stranded high in the mountains as they try to escape the brutal isis advance. The conditions are terrible. This man said there is no water, no electricity, no bread, not even a single grain tree. This is a desperate situation, particularly for children. As you can see, there are clouds in the sky and it is it portends of the storm that is to come. This picture will change in the next few hours. As you look at the satellite picture of this hurricane iselle that is bearing down now on the big island. Air force reconnaissance planes say that it is still a hurricane, which means it still has minimum winds of at least 74 miles an hour. There was some thought it might slip down to Tropical Storm status before hitting the island. Lets hope that is the case. At one point, it was a category four. Much more powerful storm. So thankfully it weakened considerably. It looks like it is going to head right at the city of hilo in the southeastern corner of the big island. As you can see there, on the map. Keep in mind, there is another hurricane, julio, behind this storm. So Hawaiian Islands could get hit by two storms,hough that second storm could continue to move north. Is that right . Could miss the islands. Still get some weather from it. Were staying on top of this very closely. But, again, that storm, the one youre looking at is expected to hit the big island within the next hour or so. Federal judges are being told to expedite cases involving children without legal representation. Abc 7 reporter Lyanne Melendez has the story. Reporter religious leaders andmigration advocates held a vigil to draw attention to t issue. She told us it is very dangerous in el salvador. Her mom left four other children behind and now they too face danger. We caught up with them outside the Court Building where she had a hearing. Her attorney represents 20 children who crossed the border alone or with an adult. Ive been receiving a lot of clients coming in asking for help, typically single women with children. Reporter they come from el salvador, guatemala and honduras, escaping poverty and violence. She said gang members demanded money which her mom doesnt have. A 2008 law says minors who cross the border from these Central American countries have the right to a hearing after they have been detained. Something republicans now want to do away with. But theoss doesnt guarantee legal representation and thats something most children cant afford. In San Francisco, as of today, we have 840 children who are in immigration courts. Without representation, they will most likely be sent back home immediately. Thats why local San Francisco organizations that provide Free Legal Services met today to discuss this crisis. Even with the wealth and nonprofit organizations we have, there is not enough to go around. Reporter even with her attorney, they arent sure they have a Strong Enough case to be allowed to stay. New government figures show the number of unaccompanied children and adults with children apprehended by u. S. Authorities peaked in may and june and has fallen by about half in july. The wife of a political prisoner freed today in china says her husband still is not truly free. A human rights lawyer was imprisoned eight years ago. He was accused of inciting subversion of statepower. In San Francisco today, supporters as she pleaded for help to see her husband. She said she hasnt seen her husband since 2009 when she was able to escape to the united states. The situation was bad back then.
