In tonight assignment 7 report we meet up with a former camper who is now helping the camp raise money. Remember distinctly at very young age believing everybody did what i did. Everybody was in the hospital. And everybody couldnt play certain sports. Reporter Danny Thompson survived 2 bouts with cancer when he was little. He is feeling great. Hes volunteering to help his dad with fundraiser to make sure other kids can attend this summer camp in the sierra foot hells because it meant so much to him as a child. He spent a lot of summers here at the camp. Offers free camp to children and Family Living with cancer. The first time danny was diagnosed he was just 3. It was about the time his baby sister was born. We met danny when he was 6 going through treatment to fight that second round of cancer. We learned how cranial us danny was at such a young age and talking to other Cancer Patients what did you tell him. Would i tell him its going to be okay. Reporter danny hasnt been back here for nearly 6 years because he wept to college and got a great job but hes back to help with projects called art inspiring hope. Its the 20th anniversary. Everybody is smiling and i feel lake its reallyen ks caps lateed it very wishltion he and his dad mike brought a number of artist to camp to work with the kid. We were at camp one year i offered to help out with some fundraising and offering hope was natural and we were doing picture frame something we were able to connect with the artist and it was a good source of place to raise money for the camp. I have always donated artwork to the event here and i was fortunate enough to have the work sell so i feel very happy to bible to contribute to it. This interactive art experience is a new addition at camp. Cofounders always adding something different. These 2 started the camp more than 30 years ago and the need is greater than ever. Part of that is reflection of the fact that there are more kids always being diagnosed. Part also a reflection that more are doing well so they keep coming to camp for longer. We like that. Family camp are so in demand that we have very large number of family who are unable to get in the fall camp at this time. We are making room for them and adding extra space. We have to have a city of 10 tent on the field to have accommodation for everybody because we dont want to turn any one away. It makes them feel very much alone. People do stare and ask and i explain i had cancer this that i usually get a lot of blank look and people dont know how to respond or what so say. I dont think you fine thater oh, reporter kate and kyle are sister and brother. They each have a different cancer one right after the other. Kyle has leukemia and kate. I was diagnosed in december of 2007 with a brain tumor. Dont feel alone here. You always foley like theres somebody who completely understands what you are going through. Reporter danny is right.
