entire community on edge and worried sick. her parents discovered her missing from her bassinet sunday morning. intense search took place near the family home in contra costa county. but the child was but the baby is reunited with her parents and 3 brothers and sisters. kristen and her baby are back at the home safe and sound. the 4 month old girl had been in southern california since sunday. today say it was the paternal grandmother erica who kidnapped the baby and whisked her down to southern californi california. >> she made entry into the house. apparently she has some familiarity with the home. so it was not a difficult task for her. and took the baby. while the parents were sleeping. >>reporter: the family say they knew all along erica was was meantally off but never did they think she would be capable of stealing the baby. according to acquaintance she told people she was pregnant. even threw herself a baby shower. when she brought the baby to the home she told friends the baby was hers and was just two weeks old. she's now being held for kidnapping at an la county jail. >> i will be happy if they lock her away. she needs to pay for what she has done but i don't have hatred in my heart and i can for give her. doesn't mean she will be part of our life ever again. >>reporter: as for the baby, c p s looked her over and say she's in perfectly good health. huge relief to her parents. >> i think it's been a long traumatic time for her but as soon as she saw us she was smiles and giggle like her normal self. >>reporter: erica is likely to faced a fall charges. contra costa county investigators are working to have her had extradited. live, abc 7 news. open jury begun deliberation in the murder trail of 2 men accused in the death of journalist bailey. deliberation began today after a two month trial. the district attorney rested her case telling jurors that former black muslim bakery leader and fellow bakery associate presidential guilty as charged. they are accused must drastically cut the prison population to relieve severe overcrowding. the 5-4 decision doesn't mean the prison doors will just swing open right awa away. annette has more from sacramento to explain the ruling's impact. >>reporter: just as kennedy a california native provided the swing vote saying the state prison system is so over crowded it caused quote needless suffering and death unquote when inmates sought medical care. order calls for the release of up to 46,000 inmates. state already begun the transfer of some prison investigators county jail. state will have to reduce the prison population by roughly 3 34,000 over two years. prison law office sued over constitutional conditions more than 2 decades ago. >> we are really hopeful that this is going to be a step that is going to solve california prison crowding crisis and solve the l truly horrible condition inside the california prison. >>reporter: crime victim group say california streets will become more dangerous if the state begins letting convicted felon go. >> disaster. they will let sex offender out, kid naerp, whole host of really bad people back into california without the resources to protect got citizens of california. >>reporter: but supporters of the release order say no whole sale opening of the gate. that there are ways to reduce the prison population while protecting california. drug sentencing inflation of the prior decade. >>reporter: brown administration says it will comply with the order but governor brown himself used the ruling to push his realeanment plan which transfers about 30,000 prison investigators local jails. but republicans are blocking the tax extension to pay for it saying county jail is not enough fov of a deterrent. >> that invites repetitive, continue to do the same thing or escalating do worse behavio behavior. >>reporter: correction officials here have two week to turn in a plan. 18 other states were closely watching fearing a similar order. in sacramento, abc 7 news. until contra costa county now building inspectors are trying to save their jobs. the county says 14 inspect divorce to be laid off at the end of the month because the money is just not there to keep them on. inspectors disagree there is enough money to save these 14 jobs which represent about one-third of all inspectors in the county. county says it's trimming staff because demand for inspections has dropped dramatically following the housing crisis. inspectors are also angry that the county budgeted 500,000 dollars to furnish a new building inspection office space. >> they don't need to make the layoffs. now they are going to contend they have a structural deficit problem. they are going to talk about reductions in building permits but they have enough money in the >> about yes hear you loud and clear. how do you hear me? >> we hear you great. i really appreciate it both you guys for coming on. first of all let me explain to the audience there is a significant delay because you are in space after all.so bare with us for that. tell us what you are doing up there on the final mission for the shuttle that help us back here on earth. >> well, i'm up here open the flight deck endeavor here with our pilot greg johnson. we are having a great mission up here so far. you know one of the biggest things we have done on the mission is install this did he vase. we are the delivery guy. several of us were involved in robotic and this is a really important scientific instrument. unlike all the other observe stories and tell scopes that look at light this look at cosmic ray causing particle and will give us an understanding of the universe we haven't had before and solve some of the mystery. that's a science perspective. but on the station we have a lot of other experiments going on. well of 100 experiments going on and amazing how big the station is. 12 people on board right now it's a big facility. some things going on are related to recycling. rae cycling water, air, scrubbing up carbon dioxide and these are necessary to explore further and able to use back on earth to conserve resource. >> this is recycled water from the station. this is recycled water from the space station. >>reporter: very cool. let me ask you this gentleman are you planning anything special because this is the final mission for endeavor? anything special up there? >>. >> well, you know, this is endeavor's 25th and final flight and although we are really excited to be part of the final flight, you know, celebrations and even acknowledging it's the final flight it is something you do afterward. so right now we are enjoying and embracing the adventure of this final flight of endeavor. we still have some things to do on our time line and when we get back home we'll probably have some celebrations and this space shuttle is going to end up i believe in california about and to share with everyone that comes to visit it. i guess to answer your question yes there will be celebration but right now we are just doing business as normal. >>reporter: one last question gentlemen. commander kelly on board. how is he doing and with all the attention that is paid to him because of what happened to his wife congresswoman giffords. how is it going up there? >> of. >> he has strong pilot to support him. if mark is doing great. we are all very fortunate to have him as our xhaernd. he's an amazing xhaernd i flew with him before so i really knew what to expect and of course about there is a lot that he's had to cope with in the last couple of months and ongoing challenge as his wife recovers but as far as the mission goes we are focus being and it's great so far. >> would i like to add that you know mark is a seasoned combat fighter pilot you and one of the big parts of the job is compartment and focus on the mission and he's good at that. he's very caring and if responsive to everything that his wife needs but he's also doesn't leaf us in any way uncommanded. he's a strong xhrnd. he's capable commander and he can do both. >>reporter: okay. i have no doubt that that is the case. gentlemen thank you so much. greg johnson on the right and mission specialist greg on board the space shuttle endeavor. thank you both whether a privilege to talk with you. safe trip back home and good luck with the rest of the mission thank you very muc much. appreciate your talking with from us space. how cool we spend a lot o of te together. well mainly in traffic. i'm serious. we've been together, what, a super long time. true. and at first it was all business, you know, i'd take him here, i'd take him there. everywhere. and over the years, we've really bonded. sure. why else would you always buy me chevron with techron?
