House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi attacked President Trump calling his order a military operation. Abc reporter has more on the meeting. Reporter house Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi sat down with people who represent and work with undocumented immigrants in the bay area to discuss their concerns. The congresswoman also encouraged them to reach out to friends living in republican districts to contact their congressmen and women to demand an end to trumps deportation plans. Members of Congress Listen to their own constituents. Lincoln went on to say we can accomplish almost anything. Still, most republicans seem to report the president s actions, especially around sanctuary cities. And even here in california, in San Francisco, we see people questioning the immigration policies and the lack of enforcement. Two recent polls support that, the institute at uc berkeley found that when asked if federal authorities should be able to ignore a federal request to hold an undocumented immigrant, nearly 27 said no, 23 said yes, a poll by stanford found that 41 support of californians supported President Trumps plan to end sanctuary cities, 36 opposed, 22 undecided. Despite that, mayor ed lee said that sanctuary cities work. We encourage everybody to not be fearful, if the police are acting on ice, to report a crime, going to school, going to a health clinic. Outside that meeting, nancy pelosi described the president s tactics as an example of fearmongering. Tonight, Santa Cruz Police say a gang investigation turned into a secret ice raid. The citys police chief slammed the department of Homeland Security saying the arrests in the city were actually part of a federal immigration bust. Police say when they shared information with the department of Homeland Security, they did not say this was coming. This has violated the trust of our community and we cannot tell you how disappointed we are by the betrayal of the department of Homeland Security. We will not collaborate with Law Enforcement agencies that we ourselves cannot trust. Homeland Security Officials have not responded to the city of santa cruz claims, a similar raid also took place in daly city, its not clear if other arrests were made there. And there was an illegaldown on the sanctuary city counties, the county was the first to ask the judge to stop the order. There is a legal experts take on this case. In our opinion, extortion is extortion, and coercion is coercion, and that is exactly what that type of behavior is. Santa clara county is fighting President Trumps order, threatening to hold funding to sanctuary cities and counties. The order is clear that you cannot use federal funding as a weapon to with hold funds on unrelated programs in order to make changes in policies. The county asked the federal judge to stop the order, a move that the San Francisco law professor calls pro active and . I do think that the lawsuit was in large part politically motivated. This is not a liberal or even conservative order, this is not even mainly about immigration, this lawsuit is about preserving control for every town, city and county in the United States. Valley Medical Center is an example of the billions of dollars at stake. If we were to lose all of our federal funding it would create a massive and untenable Public Health crisis in the county. When you with hold money like this, its got to be related funding. The funding that you with mohol has to be related to immigration enforcement. He expects it to work, and in a push for republican legislation and the congresscontrolled house. And the Sonoma CountySheriffs Office sent out a letter in both english and spanish today on immigration enforceme enforcement. The sheriff said that the deputies are not allowed to ask anybody in the jail about their status, if you are asked to call about the case, you are not to ask about the immigration status, the main goal is to keep everybody safe. And a tweet shows everybody being checked last night. Customs and Border Protection agency immigration agents asked for help finding someone with a deportation order. The person was not on the plane, but the action received a lot of criticism on social media. A terrible accident in a parking lot near the santa rita jail has cost an Alameda County deputy his life, Michael Foley suffered serious accidents, hit by a coworker driving an empty prison bus. Foley was wearing dark clothing at the time, the driver just never saw him, he said. 60yearold foley served for 29 years with the Concord Police department, he is survived by an adult son. And well move on to the weather, the temperatures in the freezing zone. At least its dry. Lets check in with our meteorologist. Youre right, were certainly seeing this chilly pattern, the live doppler showing how clear it is. The winds are light, this morning we had numbers flirting with freezing, within the next hour you will see the numbers drop by the overnight hours, mid30s, tonight even colder than we had this morning. So we could see some upper 20s, this is 7 00 a. M. , and with the frosty conditions at 7 00 this will be the coldest night this week because you can see as we go into tomorrow there are a few high clouds. And then the weekend, the allimportant weekend. Showers, cold showers by the Morning Hours on saturday, some low elevations snow down to 2500 feet. That means we could see the possibility of hail and looks like it will last through sunday. I will have the time line on that, and a look at sunnier days coming up in the sevenday forecast outlook in a few minutes. In san jose, city crews are trying to help residents under to their homes, in this picture you can see what happened the past few days with cars under water, finds them only partially submerged now. And sky 7 flew over earlier, the area is a muddy mess, as you see. The red areas show that mandatory evacuations are still in effect for 1100 homes, about 3800 people. The green areas are zones where evacuations have been lifted. And officials have not said where they could be back in their homes, abc 7 reporter david louis has more. Reporter its ironic that it takes a hose to clear up the mud, the number of people displaced is dropping from 40,000 yesterday to 3800 today. The mayor went door to door to talk to residents where the Evacuation Order has been lifted. Everybodys garbage is in our yard, how are we supposed to get it out . However, in the hardhit rock springing area, the residents wont be going home yet. The activity will be based on our ability to clear and also well find that structures are not able to be inhabited, others will be. Utilities are cut off for the entire area but as residents return their service can be restored. We can cut the main electrical panels at those individual structures. This is already happening in the Williams Street neighborhoods where you may have three homes side by side where only one can be reoccupied. So this neighborhood will eventually get to that phase, this is a major obstacle preventing people from going home. Despite this being a mandatory evacuation zone, a few residents have managed to sneak in to see damage to their apartments, this man says he and his family will need to start over. I went this morning inside, but it is a total disaster inside. The floor is coming up. Its all messed up. In san jose, david lewis, abc 7 news. 7 on your sides Michael Finney will be in san jose to help with questions that come after Something Like that, how to file a claim and basically move on. Reporter and a cable and steering looks like a toy boat, the u. S. Survey is in uncharted waters. We may have made a different decision. Reporter that is because coyote creek has never been this high since they began measuring. The Emergency Managers were caught off guard. We were not expecting to have emergency measures for many, many hours and certainly didnt expect rock spring to be the first place we had issues. Reporter the biggest place was 20 years ago. The last time the water came right here where my feet are, and this year water came up one, two, three, four, five steps. Patrick is a former water board member who teaches Civil Engineering at san jose state. Although there is no data for water this high, a careful look at the map should have given the city leaders a clue . I moved my chickens on sunday, yeah, they could have known it would happen. Reporter next time, they hope city leaders will not have to guess. So we have data where it was not before. Reporter ferrara says it will happen again until the new dam is available. The problem is its not capable of releasing it fast enough, it takes ten days to release enough water, we didnt have 30 days, we had one day. In san jose, jonathan bloom, abc 7 news. Today, senator Kamala Harris saw the damage from Lake Oroville first hand from the air. Her Office Shared this with us. And meeting with water officials there. They briefed her on how the emergency spillway got eroded due to the massive evacuation. And oroville reservoir, the second biggest in the state down to 80 of its capacity, californias biggest reservoir, lake shasta, is at 92 capacity. And look at this, california is now entirely under the worst two categories of drought, more than 60 of the state is not in any level of drought at this moment, those maps show just how quickly our Drought Conditions have actually changed from last week and summer from last year. Yeah, well, lets check on the rain that is comingway, our meteorologist is here with the forecast. Hi, there, ama and dan, good evening, were looking at not only the cold showers but well get you a camera. Were having a hang in there. Were trying to get a shot over there. There we go. We can hear you now. We were talking about the cold showers over the weekend but forecast models are allowing for things to be very scant in terms of accumulation, that is the. News, were not seeing much in the way of action, but there is a Winter Weather advisory in mendocino county, you could see the flood warnings there, ten and a half inches here, clear lake, flood stage at nine feet so they still are looking at active flooding there, and the Winter Weather advisory through saturday. So a live look outside, the golden gate bridge, yes, will be frosty in the north bay, 40 in San Francisco, 42 in gilroy, and a good Vantage Point here, no fog, the dew points are lower, so numbers could drop below freezing tomorrow. 45 in concord, 42 in livermore, the forecast highlights are cool and frosty for tomorrow morning, cold showers this weekend, but amounts look to be very, very light, the cold air will stay in place until early next week, and then we get into a sunny and milder pattern, starting out with the lows, napa, 29 degrees tomorrow morning, mid30s along the peninsula, how about 32 in morgan hills, so definitely a frosty start, as we talk about the bay area out of the drought, Southern California still in the drought. And as with eg we get that sn melt, in the southern sierra well look at flooding as our new concern, so were happy about all that rain but all the snow has to melt and you see the concerns we still have here with the stresses on the levees. The systems will be weak, in fact about a tenth to a third of an inch so as we start our forecast animation, on saturday it will take pretty much all day long to see a few hours but higher elevations, mount diablo, the rain and snow mix, sunday, another weak system into monday, keeping the chance of rain right through early monday, the High Pressure will build in allowing for some spring preview. So as we add up the rainfall totals through monday we are looking at look at that, maybe a little bit better than that, half moon bay. So a little more wet weather to go through but as for tomorrow it will be another sunny afternoon, with numbers in the midtoupper 50s, cool, less breezy, so enjoy that sun, high clouds in the afternoon, and then the accuweather sevenday forecast, we still have the one on the storm impact scale for saturday, sunday, monday, but more than likely you will just feel the weekend chill and all looking forward to next week where we have more springlike temperatures.
