And two suspected gunmen were killed, a man and a woman, wearing assaultstyle gear. Another man was detained. The police have not said it was a terroristtype activity, but are looking into it. Reporter it ended as it began in a hail of gunfire, four hours of terror in San Bernardino after gunmen stormed an Office Building killing 14 people. The final confrontation, on a neighborhood street, a dark suv riddled with bullets. One person shot dead, another inside. The suspects were dead at the scene, one is a male, one a female. They are both armed with assault rifles. They are both armed with handguns. Reporter Law Enforcement tracked down the suspects just two miles from the infield Inland Regional Center. We had a report of a female. Reporter witnesses describe a barrage of gunfire. She was fine, and then all of a sudden boom. Reporter the people there called their families, this man read a text from his daughter as she was at work. People shot, the officers are waiting for cops. Pray for us. They have a suspect dressed in camo masks and kevlar. Reporter tonight, the bomb squad is investigating a suspicious device. The Group Holding that meeting, the San Bernardino county Public Health department. One of the members there appeared to have worked as an inspector for the health department. San bernardino, california. And there were active scenes at several locations in San Bernardino county. There was first the Inland Regional Center where the mass shooting happened. It is also where a possible explosive device was found. The shooting involving the suv where the two suspects were killed is about two miles away. The third scene, the house linked to the suspects in redland about ten miles away. And witnesses say what happened after the police reached the frantic scene. They tried to assess what was going on and victims were found. A male, all black clothing with a black mask. We do have victims down, shooter is supposed to be in a parking lot, no better description in that location with a machine gun. We have two suspects all dressed in black. Back door east side. The back door east side we have two we have several down in the conference and several medical victims we have at least 20 victims. Were on the second floor. Shots fired. You can see one guy down, one guy in the back of the car. Right now we have one down outside the car. One down inside the car. And from what we understand, one is on the run. Now, governor jerry brown said that they will spare no expense to find the suspect. And tonight a Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony was cancelled out of respect for those who were victims. Capital flags were lowered to half staff. And many Staff Members at the regional Sister Center went home too early today because they were too scared and upset to stay at work. The Regional Center in the east bay in san leandro is one of four centers in the state. They are nonprofit to provide assistance to people with developmental disabilities. Were just here as a voluntary agency, were here to help people with disabilities and cant imagine why people would go after somebody in this service. In the past, there have been angry clients but staff says there has never been anyone with a weapon. Now, california has 21 Regional Centers like the one affected today in San Bernardino. Staff at the golden gate Regional Center in San Francisco are on heightened alert, understandably tonight. Police are increasing patrols along the Market Street where the center is located. They are watching for signs of suspicious activity. Officers ask the public to remain vigilant, keep their eyes open and report anything to the police immediately that is suspicious. And it used to be standard to wait until the specially trained units to arrive on scene, but that strategy has changed. Abc News Reporter vic lee has more. Moving in, rifles at the ready approaching the massive complex a center Whose Mission is to care for people with developmentally disabled problems. Today, multiple reports coming in. Shots fired. Suspects wearing all black carrying a shotgun. Reporter witnesses outside describe a barrage of bullets. And then theyre on the loose. I was right behind the building and i heard all the shots. Reporter Juan Hernandez was staying at a hotel across the street and came out when he heard the gunfire. Multiple shots, shots going off like crazy, just one right after the other. And as i came out then we had seen a black suv flying down the street. What i saw looked like one guy was wearing military fatigue. Reporter the Law Enforcement response . Massive. Well, that is where theyre running to. Reporter a nurse filming this video from inside the building. People evacuated with their hands in the air, getting patdowns to make sure the attackers were not blending with the crowd. They patted us down, took our bags. Reporter and then 45 minutes after that first call this Chilling Police radio dispatch. The suspect possibly, all three of them fled in a black suv. These are people who came prepared, dressed to indicate they were prepared and they had long guns, not handguns. Reporter families gathering at the scene getting Text Messages from their loved ones, one reading this message from his daughter. Shooting at my work, people shot, in the office waiting for cops. Pray for nrus. Reporter frank montes waiting anxiously for his niece. He tells me they spoke on the phone. She said something about three shooters with machine guns. Reporter she was outside when it happened, on a break, and then what happened . They hit the floor and ran into the Managers Office and locked themselves in. Reporter you seem pretty nervous, youre upset. Yeah, she is okay, i just want to comfort her. Reporter marcos wife got out safely. They locked themselves in, in her office. They have seen bodies on the floor. Reporter it all unfolded. You could hear people yelling and screaming, a lot of people running around. Reporter a triage set up at this intersection, the injured carried away on stretchers. Police evacuating the school buses and s. W. A. T. Team spent hours going doortodoor in the huge complex looking for victims and any explosives the attackers may have left behind. The device they found they do have it and taking it out of the building now. Reporter unclear at this point whether or not it was an explosive. One of the devices is believed to potentially be an explosive device, so they are taking a cautious and slow approach to processing that building and rendering that safe. Reporter the killers and their motives tonight, still a mystery. I know onenr of the Big Questions that will come up repeatedly is is this terrorism . And i am still not willing to say that we know that for sure. We are definitely making some movements that it is a possibility. And that was matt gutman reporting. In pittsburgh a man is in jail accused of beating his mother with a fireplace poker. These photos were taken of the s. W. A. T. Team outside a home today where the man and his mother live. Police say the man locked his mother inside the home last night and assaulted her with a fireplace poker several times. They say he also threatened to burn and kill her. She managed to get away this morning and called police from a neighbors home. After several hours of negotiation the man surrendered to police. Well, tonight we are getting a moment by moment look of the rescue of a family trapped in a remote part of el dorado county. Take a look at the chp video. The familys truck was stuck just three feet away from the edge of the cliff. The father of five young adults were trapped. The chp said the father held his foot on the brake for hours to keep the truck from falling down the mountain. The rescue crews talked about this difficult situation as officers on the ground tried to secure the truck. Close to the edge of the cliff.
