Nobodys security badge will work. Everybody waiting for an email if youre laid off or to report to work monday. Elon musk dad lybadly overpaid twitter, buying a company that doesnt make money and now hes trying to do something to cut costs. As many as half employees have likely lost their jobs. Some employees are suing musk this morning saying because the layoffs are all of the sudden they violate state and federal laws requiring 60 days notice, what they call a warn notice. Musk has violated the law before at tesla. The same law firm that sued tesla. The punishment for violating a warn notice is not that the employees get their jobs back, its that you are forced to give those laidoff employees a financially significant exit package which were still trying to understand but were hoping twitter employees will get. It leads to a conundrum. For many given the choice between an exit package or keeping their job and having to work for elon musk, they want the exit package. Our colleague ben collins at nbc just said i have never before talked to so many people who are happy to lose their jobs. We just got the latest jobs figures, these do not include recent announcements like twitter, 261,000 jobs in october, more than expected. Unemployment rates rise to off lows of 3. 7 so, yeah, these are stronger than we were expecting. Wages are up as well. We talk about how the fed is trying to slow things down. Police in the east bay have arrested a father after his toddler overdosed on fentanyl. Today in the bays bob redell joins us live outside the police department. The father is being charged with murder. Reporter and the father is now in jail in dublin. Good morning to you, laura and marcus. Yes, on wednesday Livermore Police arrest this had man, the father, justin pittman. He is 22 years old. It was back in august Police Responded to a home on the 200 block of turnstone drive here in livermore for a baby in distress. When they arrived officers found pittmans young daughter not breathing. They performed cpr until paramedics arrived. Just shy of her 2nd birthday, she died later at the hospital. Pittman told police he and the baby were taking a nap. He left the dangerous drug fentanyl within reach of his young daughter. They believe she somehow ingested it. It doesnt take very much to be harmful and in a child, a much smaller person, it will take even less to be harmful. Detectives interviewed the father and determined he was the sole caretaker of the baby that day. And he also admitted to detectives he was a fentanyl addict. Reporter now even with that admission back in august police say they didnt have enough evidence to make the arrest of pittman. Police had to wait over two months for the toddlers toxicology reports before they could charge him and take him into custody which, again, they did this past wednesday. Pittman will be in court on charges of resisting arrest, battery of a police officer, and back in court monday for the murder charge. Reporting live, bob redell, today in the bay. So sad. It is.
