Moving you forward this morning this is on the new solution to help more people get access to the Monkeypox Vaccine. A number of people who need it cant get it because they live too far away from the clinic or face language barriers. Today in the bays bob redell joins us. Bob, the federal government is launching a program in order to try to reach the people who want these vaccines. Reporter they are. Good morning to you, kris and marcus. The cdc is launching a new Vaccine Equity pilot program. This is to reach the people who arent showing up or wont show up at the traditional clinics that have been set up like this one here in concord. What the cdc has done nationwide, set aside 50,000 doses for these people who face barriers to getting the shot. Whether its because they dont speak the english language, are vaccine hesitant, dont trust the government, dont have the technology to make an online appointment or will get in trouble because of their undocumented immigration status, this program is encouraging local governments and nonprofits to come up with innovative ways to reach those people. Now the cdc says almost half of the doses of Monkeypox Vaccine administered fashionly have gone to white men while about a third have gone to black and hispanic men even though black and hispanic men account for well over half the cases. Thats the disparity theyre trying to address there. Meantime marin county is dealing with a surplus of the Monkeypox Vaccines broadening its vaccine Eligibility Criteria to make sure those highrisk people arent being missed. Some 600 residents received the shot. In spite of all of this the cdc does say the number of monkeypox cases is on the decline. You can see statewide in the state of california over 4,400 cases. This is as of september 13. And over 1,300 of which are here in the bay area. The majority of the cases in the bay area are in San Francisco.
