New overnight in marin county, a scene in san anselmo, a big oak tree toppled onto a garage damaging three hMercedes Benzes and broke a waterline as well. They got a call a tree had fallen on top of two cars on private property in the 1100 block of beach street. When they got here, this is what they found. No doubt there are scenes like this across the bay area from the powerful winds last night. Firefighters used chainsaws and cleared the debris off the sidewalk so people could walk by. This is video into our newsroom showing the tense moments. The man was just trying to hang on for dear life. That video, you see how dark it is, is from 1 00 in the morning. Reporter this man is very lucky to have been found when he was. A person who lives in a mansion along El Camino Delmar in the sea cliff neighborhood of San Francisco happened to hear the man screaming late last night from the cliff below the home where this person lived. This is what this man looked like when the Fire Department arrived. You can see him. He is spread eagle, trying to bare hug a rock, about 30 to 40 feet above the water below. Its not clear how he got there. We understand he did go to baker beach. Its possible he was trying to make it to a private beach between baker beach and china beach and then got trapped by high tide. Firefighters trained in cliff rescue for the San Francisco Fire Department, they climbed down, successfully made the rescue about 1 00 this morning instead of the conditions. Very grateful. Gusty winds, its dark out, wet out. The dark its pretty steep. My concern is for my crew, to make sure theyre secure to rescue this person. The man was able to walk on his own to the ambulance to be checked out by paramedics. Reporting from china beach, bob redell, today in the bay. Other news were following, a san lorenzo man killed in front of his father, now 18 years later the family is continuing to search for the killer. This is rick davecki, he died after a hitandrun in berkeley. Years of flyers and billboards and even tv profiles, and the case remains cold. His memory is still alive through the annual Arroyo High School car show in his memory. The foundation raised 100,000 for high school sports. Here is a sketch of the man who police say killed davecki. Hes described as africanamerican and driving a light colored cadillac. Surveillance images are credited with nabbing two suspected thieves. The thieves targeted north bay Elementary Schools during school hours. This gets better. Deputies say the men and woman arrested have kids attending the schools. They would go through empty classrooms, taking teachers purses and wallets. They say at least eight schools were targeted since november. Police arrested the pair yesterday thanks to tips they received after sharing the Surveillance Video from schools and businesses. Fourteen age boys in serious trouble accused in a string of home burglaries. Police say Surveillance Video shot at one of the homes caught four male juveniles taking money and jewelry. Authorities managed to track them down and took them into custody. The four are accused of burglarizing another los gatos home. We may get a better idea today if the muchdiscussed plan to build a suicide barrier along the Golden Gate Bridge can finally start moving forward. The Golden Gate Bridge district will meet to discuss a new funding plan. Bids came in this summer nearly twice the original 76 million estimate. The bridge district has been working to bring funding together from several sources. There are a lot of Holiday Events happening around the bay area this weekend starting with a lighted parade today, it goes from 6 00 to 8 00 by pier 39. Thats been an annual tradition since 1994. A judge has ordered two Santa Clara County correctional deputies to stand trial in connection to an inmate beating at san joses main jail. The two pled not guilty to a 2015 beating that left an inmate severely injured. Thats the former inmate ruben garcia who say the guards gave him a fractured jaw and many other injuries. The judge made her decision based on a Pretrial Hearing three months ago. The guards are due back in court december 27th. Two pittsburg Police Officers are accused of misconduct and its causing a Ripple Effect throughout contra costa county. Prosecutors are dismissing 15 cases involving defendants arrested by those two officers. The two officers claim their superiors told them to falsify crime reports but not cumenting use of force and recording the crimes as less steer yous to keep the citys crime stats low. The d. A. Lexington reservoir got quite a drink in the last couple days. That is welcome here at the reservoir. It did trigger a mudslide near Boulder Creek. Bear creek at Ralston Ridge is closed to the Boulder Creek border. Some homeowners built dams to try to divert the water. Cal fire says the vegetation that would usually help to hold the ground in place didnt stand a chance. Instead, it was swept down into the culverts and the creeks creating other flooding worries. Theres so much more run off because of the burn scar, normally it would absorb nicely, here its not absorbing at all. Now, in the last 24 hours or so, crews did try to stay ahead of the storm. Theyre going to be doing a lot more of that today. We drove around for about an hour and a half here in the santa cruz mountains. We saw branches in the roadway, piles of rock sliding down. It was quite a scene that unfolded on the streets of San Francisco overnight. San Francisco Police are investigating a crash that involved several vehicles. It ended up stretching an entire city block, taking out a fire hydrant in the process. This happened late last night at 19th and lincoln. You see the geyser, the fire hydrant. Police say that includes the driver who started the crash. They believe he was traveling at a high rate of speed. At least six cars were hit. Everyone was just chilling. Next thing i know, the car in front of this white one gets smacked, then bounces, hits this one. This truck takes it in the back end, smacks into the back of me. He then swipes down here, hits another gentleman down here and took out that fire hydrant and his car is in the middle of the intersection. Hes also in a lot of legal trouble. In 2014 he pled guilty to two counts of misdemeanor battery, placed on probation when prosecutors say he attacked a second person, another woman. He was sentenced to one year in jail pending an appeal. Thats why i did the double take. I was surprised he would get the job offer. I asked the person who hired him to come in and answer some questions. I had my Second Surprise because she said yeah. My views are very contradictory to yours. Ive known him, like i said before, long enough and i feel quite different from what i read in the press or what im hearing right now. As the temperatures stay very cool, over the next couple days, once again, we may have some frost for that morning start. Looking at what to expect as far as cold air for the bay area, we will only see highs as the storm system moves out. Mostly clear skies in oakland, palo alto and San Francisco. Highs reaching 52 degrees, concord also 52 degrees. Wind speeds still breezy, up to 20 to 25 miles an hour as the cold air settles in. We will still have the sunshine. But dont expect much of a warmup. It wont be until about the end of next week before the next wet weather system moves in. Looking at the sevenday forecast for forecast, only 51. The low in the upper 30s for the weekend. Inland areas reaching low 50s, morning temperatures near frost or freezing. We will see a slow warmup next week. Before you head out the door, here are the top stories on nbc bay area. Much of the bay area is in cleanup mode after that powerful storm whipped through. First, new overnight, a massive oak tree topless and grows into a garage or perhaps some sort of carport there. You see a Mercedes Benz stuck underneath it. Thats in marin county, san anselmo. That tree in the process of coming down brought down utility lines, broke a waterline as well. There were several hundred customers without power. Several people were told to get out of the area for about three hours until pg e could cut off the power and turn off the gas. Thankfully nobody was hurt. Turning to the peninsula now before an ugly scene played out in East Palo Alto. Large pictures of the damage after a large tree came crashing down on two cars. You see them there. The good news here is no one was hurt. The cars, of course, had pretty major damage. Lets move south in the santa cruz mountains. You see images from the loma fire. Rain triggered a mudslide that shut down bear creek road and Ralston Ridge. The signs says roads closed, we did see people trying to drive through. Caltrans true trying to clean debris from storm drains. New this morning, amid cold temperatures and whipping winds, a man was found hanging on for dear life on a cliff near baker beach in San Francisco. Can you make it out in that picture . He was hugging the side of the cliff. Strong winds wriping around them. The good news is firefighters were able to save him. No doubt he was thankful. A windy commute to kick off your friday morning. That will be our high, 55 in the north bay and 52 in the east bay, expecting more of this for the next couple of days as far as the highs, morning temperatures, frost and freezing conditions for the valley.
