So we did climb into the 60s yesterday which we topped out in the 50s so today should be a nice little change in the pattern. Were going to begin this morning with breaking news. An unknown number of people are dead and several others are now in the hospital after a fire erupted at a dance party in the east bay. Now, about 75 to 100 people were inside. Fire officials tell us there are casualties but just how many they just arent sure. At this hour, crews are searching for the missing. The fire started around 11 30 last night at the 1300 block of 31st avenue in oakland, just north of the 880 near the fruitvale b. A. R. T. Station. The party was advertised as a rave. According to property records the building is zoned as a warehou warehouse. The Oakland Fire Department tells us crews are still working to get a full picture of what happened. The fire that burned for four hours. Obviously, it did burn through the roof so its very dangerous in there right now for our crews to go back in. But once we determine its safe, we will go back into the building. Now, an artist collective taking place at the building next door also burned down. They branded her. Keith papini tells 20 20 says he remembers rushing to meet his wife sherri at the hospital after she was found beaten and shackled more than 100 miles from their home. I just ran past everybody ayinde throw open the curtain and she was there. And her poor face. I just hugged her. I just held her. Sherri papini was miss forge three weeks. Keith said the search felt endless. At one point she feared she was dead. We were heading back after we did a few mile search and we look up and we start to see some birds circling. And i started walking and i just went to my knees. But sherri was found early thanksgiving morning, keith says shes talked briefly of the alleged abductors. She literally lived through hell. A 50mile stretch of california coast has been cleared for commercial crabbing starting today. California department of fish and wildlife says the area between point ray as and salt point is now safe to catch crabs. The area has been off limits after high levels of acid was found in the crab area last year. Now, fishing grounds north of salt point through the north jetty of humboldt bay will remain closed. Those high acid levels almost wiped out last years crab season. Caltrain is taking the holiday spirit for a joyride. It has a train all decked out and ready to roll. The festive caltrain holiday train was unveiled yesterday at the king street station in San Francisco complete with snow, of course. The dean sent mesa a letter noting that his plans to pursue a career in Law Enforcement could be impacted if he didnt agree to drop the class and either withdraw or accept an f. So, to me, thats a threatening ultimatum. Reporter mesa denies doing anything wrong but says he felt like he had to agree to the terms of the deal because hes set to start at a police academy. The college would not comment citing privacy issues. I think this is discrimination at its finest. After the election, fears of racism and mass deportations have increased. Yesterday San Jose City leaders tried to calm those worries. The chief of police made it clear that officers do not and will not ask victims or witnesses about their immigration status. And leaders answered questions about the rights of both document and undocumented immigrants. The event was held at the Mexican Consulate in san jose, but it isnt just mexican immigrants who are worried. Some people in the muslim and Iranian Community have come to meet with me, and they asked me about the city creating a list for deportation. It doesnt exist. It does not exist and it will not exist. City leaders hope immigrants get the message that san jose is not in the business of enforcing immigration laws. Many other people in the bay area are still feeling the bern postelection. Senator Bernie Sanders spoke to a soldout crowd yesterday afternoon at uc berkeley promoting his new book. Last night his family was holding out that two suspects will be caught soon. I hope theyre caught and theyre convicted and theyre brought to justice. We have more details now on that breaking news. At least nine people are dead and 25 more are still unaccounted for this morning after a fire erupted at a dance Party Last Night in the east bay. Oaklands fire chief says this the worst fire in the city since the Oakland Hills blaze 25 years ago. Now, about 75 to 100 people were inside that dance party. Several of those people are now in the hospital. At this hour, crews are still searching for the missing. The fire started around 11 30 last night at the 1300 block of 31st avenue in oakland. Thats just north of the 880 near the fruitvale b. A. R. T. Station. Now, party was advertised as as rave. According to property records, the building is zoned as a warehouse. The Oakland Fire Department tells us crews are still working to get a full picture of what happened. Right now theres limited access to the structure, but its too unsafe and not only that, theres a lot of heavy wood from when the roof came in thats going to have to be removed. Its going to take a while for us to finish up the search. Work space for artists next door also burned down. We want to show you a live look now at the aftermath of that fire.
