Shes been talking to investigators all morning long. Do you have any updates . Reporter we are getting close to perhaps okay. We have a little action behind us, where one of the drivers tried to go through the intersection that is closed. Well take a look. Were talking about monterey road, capital expressway, the overpass. Thats where the driver thought they could go left and could not. So this is going to be a traffic tieup. But getting back to what we know about this crash, we do know we are talking about a woman who was crossing the road a few minutes before 3 00 this morning when she was struck and killed by a taxi driver. That taxi driver had a passenger in the car at the time. Here is what we know about him. The taxi cab was southbound on monterey road approaching the capital expressway with a fare he was bringing home. He ended up striking a pedestrian in the roadway here. Reporter the taxi driver was here in the back of the patrol car being questioned but cooperating fully with police. We asked the lieutenant about half hour ago where it appeared that speed or drugs or alcohol might have been a factor. The investigators say at this point it does not appear to be the case. They are still out here measuring the distances for their part of the investigation. The coroner has arrived and the victim has been taken away for identification. She did not have any identification on her person. But, like we said, she is an adult woman and it appears that perhaps she might have been homeless. Following breaking news out of south america this morning. At least 76 people are dead after a plane carrying a Brazilian Soccer Team crashed on its way to the colombian airport. Weve got new video to show you just into our newsroom this morning showing search and rescue crews at the crash sigte. 81 people on board, many of them soccer players. Only five people survived. Authorities arent ruling out a surviving flight attendants report that the plane may have one out of fuel. For now the mainline of investigation is a possible reported electrical failure. The flight departed from bolivia approaching a nearby airport. Weve got a picture to show you actually of the team. This is from a different flight over. This is chapecoense soccer club from brazil. They were on their way to play in the final match of the copa south america cup in colombia on wednesday. A developing story light now. This was quite the scene, chaotic and deadly. Shooting outside a busy steakhouse in union city. Police believe everyone involved is in custody. Police say gunmen shot three people in the parking lot of the texas road house restaurant around 9 00 last night. A popular area right by the Union Landing shopping center. One of the victims died and two others were injured. Officers who happened to be working nearby heard those shots and got there very quickly. A witness description helped those police track down the suspects car. We had additional officers out in the area dealing with that type of activity when this occurred. Three people right now are under arrest. Police believe two guns found inside the suspects car are connected to the shooting. The east bay times reports the shooting is not gang related. 6 05. Happening right now, low wage workers and supporters are organizing demonstrators in oakland, part of a nationwide effort to raise awareness for 15 an hour men mum wage. The protests are supposed to include fast food workers and airport workers. Bay area uber drivers are also supposed to take part. The protests started just a few minutes ago at 6 00 a. M. Another broader protest is being organized at noon at sfo. A National Story now with roots in california. Investigators are still trying to find the people who kidnapped a Northern California mom three weeks ago and then released her. Today in the bays Gadi Schwartz has new details in the case. Good morning. Reporter good morning, sam and laura. We spoke with the sheriffs department. The sheriff here says his investigators were speaking with sheri papini late yesterday. They are convinced more than ever that she was brutalized and kidnapped over a threeweek period. They cant get into specifics, they say they dont want to jeopardize the investigation. Right now priority number one is finding her two kidnappers. They describe them as two women, possibly hispanic with a gun driving a dark suv, the same description weve had over the last three or four days leading many people to speculate that she may have been blindfolded throughout this ordeal. Unfortunately the sheriff, when asked about that, says he cant comment on specifics. We doesnt want to jeopardize the investigation. They are hoping to release a little more information later today. Were now hearing the tense 911 calls made after a student plowed his car into a sidewalk and went on a stabbing spree on the Ohio State University campus. 911, what is your emergency . Hi, im at ohio state right outside of locke hall, there was a guy who crashed his car into people and now he has a knife chasing down people. Police say 18yearold Abdul Razak Ali at tan drove his car into a sidewalk full of pedestrians and stabbed several students with a butcher knife. The motive for the attack remains undoane. Today a memorial dedicated to the 19 firefighters who lost their lives fighting a wildfire near yarnell, arizona, will be unveiled today. A private ceremony will be held for family and friends. The memorial will be open to the public tomorrow. That was the greatest loss of life for firefighters fighting a fire since 1933. 19 granite plaques share a photo and story of each fallen hot shot crew member. Authorities are still looking for a suspect . Reporter good morning, sam and laura, yes, authorities are still looking for that suspect. The shooting took place about a block away from Castro Valley y. We dont know if it was connected to the high school but it was near the high school in a res geidential part of town. I spoke with detectives and they tell me they may have had a lead on the car the suspect was driving during this deadly driveby. This is footage from last night. You see the police tape up. It was around 6 00 p. M. That the shooting took place on the 4100 block of wilson avenue after reports of shots fired in that area last evening. When they showed up, they found a 37yearold victim suffering from gunshot wounds. He was unresponsive when paramedics arrived and was pronounced dead on the scene. I spoke to detectives this morning. They say theres been an outpouring of information from neighbors regarding the shooting. The victim is a father of a 9yearold. Police are trying to track down the person who shot him. I cant say at this point was this an intended target or not. Were not sure. We have to check that out. But it appears that somebody shot him, purposely shot him and then they fled. Were looking at all angles. Reporter here is the thing, guys, theres still no suspect description at this timement theyre not releasing the information right now on a possible car description. Still a lot of questions this morning after three people were killed and five others sickened following a thanksgiving dinner in antioch. The eight victims were among 800 people who ate a churchsponsored meal at the American Legion hall on 6th street fire. Now Health Officials are trying to figure out what happened. We have no indication yet. If it is a foodborne illness, but based on symptoms like nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, thats usually what it is. All the victims lived in the same facility and Health Officials say that is another possible source of the sickness. Health Officials Say there is no threat to the general public. A critical decision could be made today regarding the raiders stadium and their future in the bay area. An Evacuation Order was given yesterday warning protesters who are deciding to stay despite potentially deadly weather conditions. Theyre trying to stop the final leg of construction for that pipeline saying it would disrupt sacred land and water supplies. Many survivors of last years San Bernardino terror attack are saying they arent getting the help they need. There are reports that 11 survivors say their workers comp claims were denied. Several survivors begged supervisors for help and supervisors pledged to provide them with assistance. 14 people were killed and 57 were injured in last decembers terror attack during an office party. 6 46. A woman left paralyzed by a fallen tree branch is suing. Emma zhao failed a lawsuit against the city for not correctly pruning trees in Washington Square park. She was in the park in august when a 100pound branch broke off and hit her. She can no longer use her legs and has brain damage. The City Attorneys Office says they cannot comment. An effort continues to pick up steam to have a memorial built for a San Francisco man who was killed by police. Its gaining more momentum now. Police officers shot alex nieto in 2014. Officers say he pointed a taser that looked like a gun at them. The nieto family disagrees. The board of supervisors is considering a memorial to be built in his honor. Supporters say that tribute would go a long way to helping them in the healing process. This would be a positive step, not only for our community, but for the city of San Francisco, to repair these broken ties. Im tracking the san mateo bridge and the bay bridge. All the bridges kind of affect each other. We have slowing down the eastshore freeway, 38 minutes from highway 4 to the bay bridge out of richmond and of course at the berkeley curve. Looking at a smooth drive through oakland. The san mateo bridge right there, thats highway 92. Folks coming out of oakland hear about the stall were tracking on the bridge, may be heading toward the bay bridge. That might be why we saw a little build in addition to the fact that its the bay bridge. A 20 minute drive out of the maze and across San Francisco. Holding steady, 26 minutes from the toll plaza and the approach toward the foster city side for the san mateo bridge. In the south bay, delays southbound monterey approaching capital expressway for these vta lines thats still closed for the time being. That crash investigation is continuing. Kris sanchez has been on scene and she tweeted out they have reopened monterey road. This lasted several hours. What happened was a woman was crossing monterey near the capital expressway and struck by a cab overnight. You see the cab being towed away. Investigators looking into what happened. The vta is rerouting some trains in the area. Also following breaking news this morning out of colombia where a passenger plane has crashed. We have a photo of the crash site into our newsroom within the last hour. At least 76 people are dead, many of them soccer players. Five people did survive. Investigators are looking into what caused the crash. Authorities are not ruling out a surviving flight attendants report that the plane may have run out of fuel.
