A quarter mile north of the brokaw road exit. This happened around 4 20 this morning and its the result of careless driving. Two women in an suv cut off this big rig and the big rig flipped and the suv wrecked. The injuries of the driver of the big rig and the two women in the suv are minor. They are expected to be okay. The tow truck people have been able to move that suv. Theyve been able to upright the cab. The problem is a trailer. It is a full load of packages. Its a heavy load so theyre trying to figure out whether it would be quicker to offload all the packages on that truck or use air bags to upright this trailer. It could take another hour, two, maybe even three as a result though fortunately right now its still a little bit early in the commute. If you look at the headlights, theyre heading northbound right now towards the scene. There is slowing, but this slowing only goes back perhaps about 100 yards. When you get here the traffic slows down. When this becomes a problem is if this is still going on later in the commute which chp is afraid could be the case. There goes another ups driver. Its a matter of them trying to figure out how to remove this full load of packages, whether theyre going to upload it, offload it or use air bags to upright it. As far as the morning commute is concerned and where were at right now, im going to send it over to mike. Good morning. Bob showed you those headlight coming toward us. The side with the flares and the two lanes that are open is the southbound side. Were looking at a calm drive around the bay. This is just south of the San Jose International airport. This is the first slowing weve had on the maps, but it slows as folks head toward the flares. Counter your typical commute and the activity likely to cause some distraction for the northbound side as well. We dont see anything unusual right now about your travel times from 85 past that airport. There is slowing there as well as capital expressway. Travel time is just a couple of minutes longer. If you take 85, those are two different routes getting to the same destination. Smoother traffic toward sfan francisco, but the toll plaza shows the backup and its a standard picture over there. We see the east shore freeway. Things are calm as far as dry roads, but you have some changes ahead as well. Were seeing clouds increase around the bay area as we look at some of the conditions on the weather computer. You see 50s across the board. Clouds over San Francisco. Mild temperatures today as the clouds will be on the increase. Starting tomorrow well be watching our friday storm system approaching the coast and more active weather as we head into the weekend and some spots will beat monthly rainfall totals. Donald trump is threatening to sue the New York Times this morning over a report he allegedly groped women. You see the overturned rig is there respect theres the trailer and the rig that was pulling it. Theyre trying to figure out how to clear that rig and figure out if they have to offload the trailer. Two southbound lanes at the 101 are blocked. This is a distraction and some minor slowing at the scene. Northbound not seeing delays. As the volume builds up in the northbound commute direction that distraction is likely to cause more slowing. So far its looking like the typical pattern over there at capital express way and approaching 680 and 880. Over here in pleasanton nothing unusual. Now slowing across the san matteo and a slower push to the peninsula and approaching the bay bridge you have a slower drive. Now he opted to fill the gas tank himself before returning the car. We checked the dollar website. Its clear, it says you will need to produce a gas receipt from a refueling station within ten miles from the return location. David says he did show the attendant his gas receipt, but dollar charged him 32 for gas. He got nowhere disputing that charge with dollar. So he contacted us. We reached out to dollar. A later volume of traffic, but san jose that lighter volume is met with a bigger problem. Right here at the airport, that crash that blocks two lanes of southbound 101 around brokaw. It looks like theyre moving right now as we speak moving some flares. Perhaps theyre getting ready to open a lane in the southbound direction. You see all traffic stopped. Theyre realigning these flares, but that overturned rig still there, the trailer blocking the slow lane and part of the shoulder. The investigation and they have to figure out how to move the truck. Theres the temporary traffic break. Well show you on the map where that is. Its south of the airport. Its light, but in a typical pattern here. The southbound side is where youll see the traffic break again. Well show you the chopper coming up. In San Francisco, better news. The roadway reopened for all lanes off the skyway, but there are reports of a serious crash involving a pedestrian. The investigation has cleared from that scene and well follow that and report anything else you might need to know about. Standard build across of the bay. Thanks. Still live at the scene of an overturned big rig in the south bay. Good morning. Yes, live on southbound 101 here in san jose. Well give you a better idea of when chp thinks this overturned big rig trailer will be removed in time of the commute. Well find out coming up. Joining us. Scott 2shot annon. And i s a very good thrg morning to you. Thanks for joining us. Im laura garciacannon. Im scott mcgrew. Sam brock has the day off. Breaking news right now. Two lanes of southbound 101 in san jose blocked by an overturned big rig. Well check in with mike in just a minute for a look at that morning commute. First bob redell is live at that scene right now with the very latest. Good morning, bob. Reporter good morning, laura and scott. The big rig trailer youre looking at over there is a ups trailer full of packages. Its a full load. Just talked to chp. There was discussion over how they were going to upright it. One way of doing it was to put air bags underneath it. That would take two hours. What the Tow Truck Company is going to do is try to do a weight check. Theyll lift up the rear end of the trailer, figure out where the weight is right there. From that point theyll figure out if they can upright it using cable. That would probably take just one hour. So the idea is that if everything goes as planned, they could have this upright by 7 30. Thats going to be well into the morning commute. It will take a little time after that to get it off the road. It was around 4 20 this morning that this u. P. S. Big rig tractortrailer was heading southbound on 101 when two women were in an suv, an acura, according to chp. They cut off the driver. The driver of the big rig overturned, collided with the suv. Southbound 101 north of the brokaw road here in san jose. All three people, the two women in the suv and the driver of the big rig taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Theyve already removed the suv and the truck, the cab part of the tractortrailer. Now theyre trying to get this trailer upright. Ups has people out here ready to offload it. Obviously getting it uprighted is the quickest plan of action. The eta is one hour is what theyre saying right now. As far as the morning commute is going, your headlights right here are heading southbound on 101. There is significant slowing once you get up to the scene. If i take a look down further southbound. Mike inouye probably has a better idea with his sensors and maps and whatnot, mike. Bob is showing progress, we hope progress in the next hour, trying to figure out the strategy for riding that rig. This is southbound counter to your commute. Most of the push is northbound. You see the volume building. That may be a distraction, but well look over here. As bob is saying, this is just south of the airport. The slowing we saw was highway 87 over to brokaw. A short section of the bayshore freeway holding at 60 Miles Per Hour right now except right at the scene. The chopper is overhead as well. We will talk you through that. Might have been confusing. This is on the southbound side of 101. Two lanes are blocked. Theyre trying to get that tow truck hooked up and pull that trailer. Lightning is pretty tough for us on the camera. Because lighting is at a minimum, no a lot of distraction for the freeway. Thats better news. Well get you back up to the maps. Well show you the rest of the commute as well as we look at 101 through san jose, no major slowing for those freeways except for in the typical northbound direction off 87 and 280. We do have an issue, 92 across the bay, the san mateo bridge looks like there may be a crash. I see a lot of slowing there. But i dont see a lot of problems as far as anything else. Changes ahead weatherwise. Right now weve got 40s and 50s outside. Light rain at times along the coast and north bay at times today as we watch two storm systems lining up. Big impacts for tomorrow morning and another arriving for the weekend. Well have a look at the timeline coming up. The crews are making sure the bay area is ready. Today in the bays pete suratos is live in mill valley with how pg e is preparing for that weather. Reporter good morning, scott. Pg e will get to work this morning to help out homeowners in this area. In the north bay here in mill valley youll be hit by that storm when it rolls in tonight and into tomorrow morning. You see these trees hanging around this home, something in general homeowners want to check out as the storm rolls in. Of course, when it starts raining here, especially in the theyve seen a lot of flooding. When youre driving, youve got to be cautious and aware, when theres flooding on those roads. Back to those homeowners, you want to make sure to trim the trees and in some cases maybe remove the trees if its going to cause issues for you during the storm. Also want to clean out the leaves from the gutter. Getting your ladder up, getting on the rooftop and cleaning out the gutters as well as checking the nearby storm drains for any leaves stuck in it. Later this morning pg e will have crews cleaning tree limbs and vegetation around power lines. That will reduce the risk of trees coming into contact with these lines which is what leads to those big Power Outages we see during the storms around the bay area. You want to treat all hanging or downed power lines as energized. If you see any, call 911 or call your nearest utility company. As far as the cleanup process with pg e, thats slated to start here in mill valley around 10 00 a. M. Pete suratos for today in the bay.
