These towering flames could be seen for miles from the east bay. Lets take you live to our emeryville camera for perspective on just how massive that fire is. You see the freeway in the distance. It is burning through a building that is under construction. Pul multiyun nut housing. It is a big deal. Is size of out, recently upgraded to a six alarm fire. Sharon live at the scene. You reported people standing outside, waiting in nearby shops as other buildings have been evacuated. Reporter yes, thats right. And it is a big deal. Let me tell you. I had to stop by after seeing this from highway 24 on my way in to work. Look behind me. You can see still huge plumes of smoke up in the air. They are fighting this fire from above and down below. They are trying to get this under control but you can still see on the left side of your tv screen there and the structure, there are still some flareups theyre trying to get control of. When you look down right now you see very active scene. Firefighters trying to assess the whole situation. You see some cars there on the street. White car right there and those cars were on fire just about an hour ago. We heard huge explosions. So cars are catching on fire. Residents, nearby residents in the apartment complexes nearby, they are going to wake up to some really astonishing pictures and scene here. We also want to show you some video that we shot earlier today of the huge flames up in the air. Again, as you said, people saw this fire all the way from the Golden Gate Bridge, highway 24, and bay bridge. And very dangerous situation. When i was trying to pull over off the highway to get to this scene, people were actually cutting me off, stopping on the highway to take pictures of the huge flames and the structure fire. So be careful. Luckily this is looking a little bit more under control. Fortunately no injuries. But back here live again, we just want to say be careful, especially as people are heading out into emeryville area to know that there are a lot of road closures here, especially at san pablo avenue and about 39th and 40th streets. The Oscar Pistorius legal saga full of twists and turns has finally come to an end. Pistorius is sentenced to six years in prison for killing his girlfriend. Now, that ruling was handed down by a skoouth african judge overnight and the sentencing is less than the prescribed minimum punishment. Pistorius was facing a possible 15year prison turn for shooting reeva steencamp through a bathroom door in his home. The substantial and compelling circumstances existed in the double amputee runners case to give him a lesser sentence. A developing story in the south bay now. String of shootings in san jose that has neighbors on edge and demanding answers. Police say someone has been targeting people who are driving along blossom hill road between poughkeepsie and monterrey. This happened four times in the last couple of months. Today in the bays bob redell is live there now with the latest on the investigation and, bob, two people were actually injured. Reporter good morning to you, sam and kris. Those people are expected to be okay. None of the injuries are life threatening. Police in san jose are looking for whoever it is who is taking random potshots at people driving down this stretch of blossom hill road near the intersections of monterrey and poughkeepsie. Police tell us they know four incidents over the past couple of months, each time taking place between 12 30 and 1 00 in the morning. The first shooting, may 4th a vehicle was hit. June 2nd, a bullet grazed a man behind the wheel. June 30th, another vehicle hit. Then this past weekend, a woman driver hit by flying glass or bullet shrapnel. Again, no life threatening injuries. And police tell us theyre just not appear to be any known connection between the shooter and his or her targets. We spoke with a woman who lives around here who is upset that police are just now letting the public know about the shootings. They should have at least announced something in the area so people could be watching out and be aware of whats happening. That is so wrong on so many levels. Reporter San Jose Police tell us it was only recently they became clear that there was a pattern to these shootings. The department had dedicated more resources to this area to try to catch the shooter. One resident tells us the other day he saw a number of squad cars posted among blossom hill road. Bob redell, today in the bay. Thanks, bob. Today marks three years since the tragic crash of Asiana Airlines flight 214 at San Francisco international airport. Three people were killed, nearly 200 others were injured. The plane was landing after traveling from seoul, south korea, when it struck the seawall. Investigators later found the pilot was flying too low and too slow in that descent. Three teenage girls died including one struck by a fire truck on the tarmac. Earlier this year the airline did agree to pay about 3. 5 million to cover the cost of the emergency response. 5 0. On your wednesday. New details. Former judges are coming to the defense of judge aaron persky, the judge of course who presided over the brock turner Sexual Assault case. One group is asking for perskys resignation. It does not indicate how many who signed are actually santa clara residents. 18 retired Santa Clara County judges have signed an open letter. The woman says she had dinner with him that night and drove him home. Police say he invited the woman inside to rest and that is when she was allegedly assaulted. Avoid the area because we have dozens of fire vehicles in the area. West macarthur onramp to 580 is closed but thats the only closure in the area. The smoke will be a big distraction. Lets take you back to the scene, mike. Thank you. Breaking news weve been following all morning long. The building that was burned to its frame. Massive flames. Tear through a construction site in emeryville. Heres a look at the fire from a few hours ago when it was at its peak. You could see the flames just consuming that building. It was under construction. Today in the bays sharon is live at the scene. Sharon, at some point the names could be seen as far away as the Golden Gate Bridge. Reporter thats right, kris. I even sue it on the way into work from highway 24. That caused me to pull over and check it out. Look at whats going on behind me. You can see very active scene still. Still trying to fight this fire from above and from down below. You can see there are still some flareups up on the left side of the structure. You can see the flareup. Still trying to fight whats still popping up in this area. Im told that this some of the embers actually caused a nearby house to catch fire. Were still trying to confirm that with the Public Information officer. But apparently this off of street where the house fire started from the im bers from this structure fire. Some of the video that we have from 3 00 this morning. You can see the enormity of this fire. Why people actually saw this huge fire all the way from highway 24, the bay bridge, and the Golden Gate Bridge. Our photographer said that he even saw it from the Golden Gate Bridge on his way in to work. And they called this a five alarm fire, then we believe a six alarm fire. Were still trying to confirm that. But just you can see how tough it was to fight this. Nearby residents in the apartment complexes nearby said they could feel the heat from the flames. Their windows were cracking and they were in fear so they had to evacuate. You can see more than the flame. If you stand over here you can see the intense heat coming up on both sides. You notice that crane is bent right there. And you can see from some of the video that josh shot earlier, too, right as we arrived on scene we saw cars on fire. Huge explosions. Cars catching on fire. And still huge flames. About an hour later they put the most of the fire out but you can still see it was very active and still is. Back here live again were going to check on possibly if a house fire was caused by the embers off of the structure fire right now. But we just saw in this area a car, a driver trying to go through. These areas are closed off right now at 39th and 40th streets here on san pablo avenue. Be aware of that if your waking up in emeryville heading to work, a lot of street closures in this area. To a developing story in the south bay where a string of shootings have neighbors and drivers feeling very nervous about driving in south san jose. Police say cars along blossom hill road between poughkeepsie and monterrey road were struck by gunfire four times in the last couple of months. Two divers were hurt. One of whom was grazed by a bullet. The other who was hit by glass or shrapnel. All of these shootings happened between 12 30 in the morning and 1 00 in the morning with the first attack happening back in may. Most recent one happened just this past weekend. And now police say they believe they are connected. One neighbor though wants to know why shes only now finding out about it. They should have at least announce something so people could be watching out and be aware of whats happening. That is so wrong on so many levels. San jose Police Spokesperson told us once that pattern became clear the police dedicated more resources to those crimes and theyre now asking anyone with information to call crime stoppers. A suspected child molester is in jail with police say there might be more victims. Police arrested lat u. S trkslat. He was wanted for molesting five girls between 6 and 8 years old. Those assaults happened in millbrae between 1985 and 2006. Police are hopeful that if there are other victims that they will come forward. Also a palo alto man is accuse of raping a woman and holding her against her will. He is now behind bars. Lili tan is live at the Police Station with details. What do you know . Disturbing indeed, sam. A dinner party with friends turned into a horrific night for a young woman. She told police a man at that dinner party raped her and then held her at knife point for several hours. The accused is 27yearold yue zhou. Palo alto Police Arrested him yesterday on suspicion of rape, Sexual Battery and false imprisonment. The arrest comes almost a week and a half after the victim reported the incident. She told police that zhou attacked her on june 24th at his home on the 3200 back of wilky way. According to police the victim in her 20s gave zhou a ride home after they had den were friends. After she said she was tired he invited her to come inside for a glass of water and rest. Thats when police say zhou Sexual Assaulted her in the house and threatened her with a knife and told her she wouldnt leave. She did eventually get away and zhou is currently in santa clara jail on a half Million Dollars bail. We will be talking to police later on today and have another update for you in the 6 00 hour. Gavin along with his mom and dad were found dead last september and his older brother is accuse oc ed of killing them. Today benecia is celebrating a boy who as kris said loved police dogs. There will be tributes to gavin this afternoon in the police headquarters. It starts at 2 00. Last february gavin and his parents raised almost 8,000 for Safety Equipment for a new canine vehicle. That vehicle will also be unveiled today. More on the bu nan nchanan. Their body were found in a burned out body. His brother was arrested and charged with killing all three. Social media saves the day. Online message that led to the safe return of two kittens stolen from an adoption event over the weekend. Thats walt wittman on your left and Alan Ginsburg on your right. Theyre both safe and sound with their foster family now. During an adoption event on sunday at pet food express in lafayette two minors stole the. 11 week old kittens. The employees immediately shared a Facebook Post about it and a friend of the suspects saw the post. This friend contacted pet food express and said they wanted to bring the kittens back. This frightening ordeal unfolded on camera. A man is seen trying to kidnap a 4yearold little girl right in front of her family in Southern California. It was all caught on the Surveillance Video there in victorville on friday. The little girl was standing next to a candy machine in a cellphone store when a man reached in and grabbed her arm and tried to drag her out. I thought they were arguing with each other at first so when i got up to look, i came from behind the counter and i asked what was going on. The mom was in here, hysterical, crying, her daughter was very traumatized. Clinging on to her. Wouldnt let go. Both babies were crying. The little girls mother and another customer jumped in to action and caught up with that man and grabbed the little girl back. Investigators say the suspect was on some sort of drug when he tried to abduct that little girl but the Mother Holding another baby at the same time. Frightening there.
