So as you plan your day today, a few early showers, skies starting to clear around lunch time today and by the afternoon well see numbers running warmer than yesterday, upper 60s to near 70 but the sevenday forecast ahead could get close to 80 degrees. Well talk about the timing of that warming trend coming up a few minutes from now. Sounds good, rob. Thank you. The Hunger Strike in San Francisco is over but the fight continues. After refusing to eat for more than two weeks, a group of protesters known as the frisco five ended up in the hospital. Supporters say they arent giving up. They still want the citys police chief to be fired after several deadly officer involved shootings. A general strike is planned for tomorrow morning. Were going to win the city back for the people. The frisco five released a statement that read in part, the end of the strike is in no way a concession. Its a victory of monumental proportions. They have been asked to help build opportunity for the very community they were willing to lay down their lives for. They still hold true to their demands. We have new details this morning in the killing of a wellknown San Francisco defense attorney. San Francisco Police have arrested her nephew, 19yearold anglo zamora is accuse d in the stabbing death of marla zamora. Her body was found in her potrero hill home. She was a longtime attorney with the public defenders office. An east bay man is behind bars this morning accused of crashing his delivery truck into a chp officer. It happened yesterday morning while the officer was working to clear the scene of a hitandrun in sacramento. Hes in the hospital with major injuries. Gregory ramirez of san lee andr is a fedex driver. Ramirez faces serious charges including driving under the influence. This is the third time in just two months that Highway Patrol officer in the sacramento area has been hit while investigating a crash. These crashes are so preventible. The vehicle had its lights on. What we want to see, which is the law, when you sipa troll vehicle lights or it tow truck lights, you need to slow down and move over a lane. Fedex released a statement saying the company is fully cooperating with authorities during this investigation. A toddlers family is Still Holding on to hope this morning months after 2yearold arianna went missing. Her mother was found dead in a shallow grave in mclaren park. Arianna hasnt been seen by relatives since february. Those relatives say they want to remind the public they are still searching for the girl, and theyre asking for information with information to come forward. Investigators say slick roads from this weekends showers played a role in a deadly crash in san mateo county. The chp says a 17yearold boy from saratoga died after he lost control of his car and hit a tree just before noon. This happened yesterday afternoon on highway 35. Thats just south of alpine road between san mateo and santa clara counties. The both directions of the highway were closed but reopened a few hours later. New details now on a fire at an assisted living facility in the south bay. 50 people have been displaced and one person is in the hospital this morning. Yesterday morning in san jose at a facility on south 9th street just a few blocks from san jose state, at least ten other units were damaged when water sprinklers went off. You could see still a little bit of light rain at times between now and probably mid morning so you see here nothing adding up on the rain gauge but the hill tops there, Santa Cruz Mountains and the north bay still a very slight chance of a midafternoon shower. I couldnt tell anyone. Theres a huge shame associated with it. Reporter still, thanks to a caring and supportive husband, carol says she did make it through, and it has become her mission this stuff reporter to help other struggling moms do the same. She has started her own nonprofit, run out of her san jose home. For the past few months theyve been collecting thousands of items of Childrens Clothing and toys, diapers and wipes, all meant for mothers struggling financially andly emotionally. Every woman needs support, i think, no matter what walk of life youre in but particularly the under served populations of Santa Clara County need our help. Carol knows there are other groups that do similar good work, but she was moved to create her own because its her own experience thats behind it, and there are just some things that books and magazines cant be. Were gaining our share and more according to government figures over the past year california added 420,800 new jobs this past year while florida added 234,300 new jobs. Now thats roughly half of the share. In Silicon Valley its gangbusters. The gains here have been astounding according to the Business Climate survey. In 2015, 62 of the valleys Companies Added jobs while only 7 subtracted jobs. That is amazinging. I was wondering how Silicon Valley jobs and the fuel here plays into that state number. So you answered that question. How does this all fit in with the economic discontent we are seeing throughout the nation this past year . Isnt that whats been fueling the campaigns of donald trump and Bernie Sanders . And that gets interesting. Theres no question. Whatever our problems here, and we have many, californians have a much brighter view of the direction of this state than they do of the nation. Check out the latest poll released just about three weeks ago. What do you see . Californians feel a whole lot better about the state, 52 , than they do the nation, about 30 . Its quite a contrast when youre looking at how people feel about how were doing here versus the nation as a whole. Were happy. Housing is an area people are feeling the crunch. How does this fit in with Governor Scotts ait temts to woo californians . It does fit in. In most cases it just doesnt. I hate to say this but when all is said and done Governor Scott may get a vacation here and little more. Lets turn quickly now to Bernie Sanders. We talked earlier in the newscast about how that campaign is coming here for a stop, which is very interesting. We know he opened a Campaign Office in oakland. Talk to us about the significance of bernie coming here. Hillary clinton has not yet sealed the deal. Whatever claims are made, she still doesnt have the delegation, about 155 short. Sanders will push her as far as he can so that the platform at convention we flekts a much more liberal, if you will, than perhaps Hillary Clinton would have done and thats why hes pounding from east to west. In fact, the fog and low clouds will be a bigger part of the weather story starting tomorrow morning. Right now we still have a few rain producing clouds around the bay area. Part of a weak system dropping north to south early this morning, dropping a little bit of light rain but not so much around the south bay. As we move through the afternoon, partial clearing. For the hill tops, around the north bay, theres still a chance we could see a stray shower. Most of the action for the rest of the day will be aiming in on the sierras. Nothing really measurable is showing up, just a few hit andand miss showers around the higher hills around the Santa Cruz Mountains and in the north bay and well see our temperatures climbing out of the 50s, the numbers in the mid to upper 60s for most spots. Notice the sierra, even as the low moves to the east, still the chance of seeing thundershowers today and the sierra very interesting, this late season rain and high elevation snow. The snowpack technically 57 of average but compared to last year same date it was 1 of average, so this is quite the change from a year ago. If you look at the water content comparing a year ago to today what you find in the sierra average snow depth is still 10. 2 inches. Last year just under an inch. The water tent a big change there. 3. 4 inches of water content still in the sierra. Last year less than half an inch. Snow in the sierra. The bay area, some clearing skies heading into the afternoon, north winds helping to bring in drier air and the sign of High Pressure beginning to build in. This year 75,000 bay area students took part in a free nineweek math challenge called learn storm. Top 300 students were treated to a pep rally, carnival and special ceremony at levi stadium in santa clara. Nbc bay area was a partner of the event as well as the San Francisco 49ers and google. It is run by the bay area nonprofit academy. And a special ceremony to kick off Asian Pacific heritage month, lmay. It took place yesterday morning. Our own robert handa emceed the event.
