Were talking about team ceo york expected to address the media at 10 30 this morning here at levi stadium to answer questions and, of course, address the issue of the firing of head coach jim tomsula after yesterdays win over the st. Louis rams. That was the last game of the seas season. The niners won five games and lost the remaining 11. That is the teams worst season since 2007. York released a statement to the media right last night announcing tomsulas firing. Jimmy has been a valuable member of the 49ers organization for the last nine years. He is a man of high character and his contributions on the field and always been greatly appreciated. This entire organization is proud and grateful to have worked so closely alongside jimmy. We wish him and his family Great Success in the future. Now the 49ers will most likely look outside the organization to an offensiveminded head coach. Someone like shawn payton, hugh jackson, chip kelly. The 49ers need a lot of changes and it has to start on the offensive side of the ball with a new head coach who can instill a winning spirit. And, laura, as you mentioned, this was tomsulas first season with the 49ers as head coach. He was brought onboard to fire the previous head coach jim harbaugh. Harbaugh writing this cryptic message. Sunday was the last raiders game of the season and they lost to kansas chiefs. A decision is expected in the coming weeks. Two people in Police Custody this morning accused of killing a palo alto man. Shot neil gandler to death last week as he sat in his car outside a las vegas gym. Investigators suspect he may have been killed during a robbery attempt. Heres a photo of the victim from his business card. Neighbors said he lived on a house in clara street in palo alto. We spoke to their friends who said they couldnt believe this would happen to someone with a promising future. He was a very warm, caring individual. The two men served their fiveyear sentence but a judge ruled that was not long enough. The protesters want them to go free. Let us be civil and as gentle as possible, but we should be as firm as necessary. The group is led by the son of cliven buddy, the nevada rancher known for his 2014 standoff over grazing rights. Also happening today, president obama will tackle gun control. The president will meet with attorney general Loretta Lynch to talk about what steps he can take unilaterally to stand gun violence. He sex pected to use executive action to strengthen background checks for gun purchases. 4 41 right now. In just a few hours workers will return to the deadly site of that rampage. A husband and wife killed 14 people back on december 4th. Police later killed the two attackers in a gun battle not very far away. The governor and other state and local leaders will be on hand attending a private Memorial Service in nearby ontario as work gets back under way. We will have some trace amounts of rain for the south bay and quarter of an inch in parts of the north bay. Taking it hour by hour, some showers in San Francisco at 7 00, 8 00 and then mostly cloudy skies throughout the rest of the morning. We will see the rain returning as we go into this morning at 2 00 more showers coming down and if its raining, you may be able to wait a while and then it stops. More storm systems rolling in and it looks like the possibility of four storms rolling into the bay area during the next seven days. Off and on showers. By wednesday the next round moves in mainly late tomorrow morning into tuesday or into wednesday, rather. Then as we go into the end of the week, we will have a little bit of a break on friday before we have more scattered showers on sunday and it looks like it doesnt end there. So, the rain outlook for the next seven days at least brings us an inch and a half to two inches and may be a little bit higher as you head to the far north bay. The tree is said to be blocking traffic. While police say no immediate danger, they are asking people in the neighborhood to stay indoors until they manage to fix that problem. We have a crew headed to the scene, as well. Well bring you an update as soon as they arrive. The federal government taking a serious look at nestles water bottling operation. Nestle bottles the arrowhead brand of water in the San Bernardino national forest. Groups are suing saying the permit for the option expired decades ago, but nestle says its still good because it applied for the renewal before it expired. The groups filing the suit said they are sifling out 76,000 gallons of watt arday. The water evaporation and the drought are having a terrible effect on the area. Analysts are saying gas prices should go down across th country this year. About 15 cents a gallon. This is already off the low prices we saw back in 2015. In fact, they say the average person saves about 700 on fuel last year and there continues to be a glut on the market. So, even when prices go up as they always do in the first quarter, we dont expect them to reach the heights that we had seen in 2015. Were starting off the new year with gas prices down about a quarter from where they were at this time last year. Heres a look at the prices here in the bay area. A firefighter is recovering this morning after he was hurt after battling a house fire in vaccaville. Two people and five dogs escaped and the house was destroyed. Took crews almost an hour to bring the fire under control. This is just off 80. Crew husband to use water tankers because there arent hydrants in the area and theyre looking into why it started. Besides leveling the home, the fire destroyed five cars. A water main break is flooding homes in kensington right now. Happening near blake garden on arlington street. East bay mud said a cast iron main broke and the water also damaged the road. It cut off the water now in order to make repairs but its going to be several hours before that water is back on in the area. Neighbors tell us this is the third time a water main broke in this spot in the past several years. Angry neighbors on the peninsula will have a chance to air their concerns about what they say is a big noise spike in in the skies above. The reason is we reported on this many times, more noise from a change in flight plans and paths on airplanes coming in and out of sfo. Complaints have gone up dramatically. Tomorrow residents will hold a town hall meeting with airport leaders in pacifica to look at possible changes. Another Public Meeting held at sfo itself on thursday. The chronicle reports that fog can also carry with it toxic mercury from the burning of fossil fuels. Scientists say mercury levels contained in the fog may be 20 times above mercury levels found in rain. The same scientists also say its still a relatively small amount and poses no health danger. A drone may have sparked one mystery in San Francisco reportedly left neighbors in the dark. This happened yesterday. The chronicle said the neighbors heard a pop and 30 nearby residents lost power.
