Crime scene tape lines a popular East Bay Park right now. This as investigators still searching for clues in an Early Morning homicide. Bob redell joins us live in concord. Are police saying anything about who might be a suspect in this case . Not yet. Theyre still trying to identify the victims, sam. A man, a young man, not a juvenile, an adult, a young found shot here last night at hill crest park. You can see behind me detectives with the Concord Police department are out here and will be out here for at least several more hours until the sun cuts up so they can get bater look at the crime scene. Just after midnight around 12 05. Someone walking through the park found this man unresponsive lying enthe ground. They stuck around until Police Arrived. Police found the man and realized he had suffered at least one gunshot wound and was declared dead on the scene and the coroner here right now processing the body as the detectives continue to collect evidence here. They are looking into this might be gang related and theyre also looking to see if it might be related to one of the other three homicides that have taken place in the city of concord this year. One in september, one in october and one in november. Theyre not drawing a connection between those other three. But something theyll consider. Very unusual for a city of this size to have four homicides this year. Again, the most recent a man shot last night inside Hillcrest Park. This is a popular park in the city and its home to mateos dream, which if youre not familiar, is a childrens playground for children with disabilities and youve also got the delta deanza regional trail that runs through here, as well. Reporting live here in concord, bob redell, today in the bay. More breaking news this morning. Everyone is safe after flames ripped through an east bay apartment complex. Crews just put out the fire within the last 90 minutes or so. Today in the bay Stephanie Chuang live at the scene and, steph, i understand you have new video of the moments just after that fire broke out. I do,a. Coming from a woman who lives here in this building, she says she is the only one out of the five units here whose apartment is still livable. If you look at the damage, its hard to see now, the lights are out. But we can see clear through. This is the main apartment that was burnt through here at 380 joan vista street. And three dozen firefighters putting out the flames in about an hour. Now, look at this video from one neighbor showing just how tall the flames got in this fire that damaged or destroyed four of the five apartments here. The fire marshal says everyone was out but the nearby crash that sheered a fire hydrant taking away one water source did complicate this fire fight. We spoke with the man who called for helping across to help his neighbor and his two young kid when he heard her crying and shouting this morning. Luckily she had a cell phone near her like hon her person an i was able to do the emergency dial thing and that was as quick as we could get it done and i was glad to be there and someone was up, you know. Firefighters estimate about 20 or more people are without a home this morning. But the good news, again, no injuries. Just one woman in the apartment where the fire began. She did suffer some smoke inhalation but she did not have to go to the hospital. I believe she stayed with neighbors here this morning. The support out here has been very incredible. The fire marshal is investigating the cause. Hes been able to narrow it down to a particular area, but so far it doesnt appear that it was a space heater or anything suspicious for that matter. Live here, Stephanie Chuang, today in the bay. Grateful for that neighbor saving lives. New this morning, a wrongway driver caused a deadly crash in the north bay. Chp says a car going north on southbound 101 crashed into a fuel tanker just before midnight. This happened in san rafael near the central san rafael exit. The person in that car died after losing consciousness inside of the vehicle. Two southbound lanes were blocked for several hours while cal trans crews cleaned up oil from the roadway. Happening now, a bay area family is desperately searching for their son in Southern California. No one has seen or heard from him in nearly a week. Today in the bay kris sanchez joins us more with the investigation and his family plea for, kris. This young man was living the dream and his parents now living any nightmare. They are desperate. They are oakley but down in Southern California talking to anyone who will listen about their missing 27yearold son. They say theyre afraid something bad happened to their son, eric kohler because no one has heard from him since tuesday. As lapd investigates his parents are pounding the pavement down in l. A. Where he was a producer at a special effects company. This is the last known image of eric kohler as he was leaving work on tuesday, but without his wallet, laptop or bag. Surveillance video shows his black range rover pulling into a Grocery Store parking lot, also in the city of gardena. Then, phone records show his phone was switched off and it has not been on, again. Now, that is part of tleenz his parents are worried. Theyre also concerned because he missed thanksgiving with his family in oakley here in the bay area and he also missed a major deadline at his job, which he lov loved. And disappeared and its heartbreaking. I dont know what to say. As his father, i cant do anything to help my son. Its so horrible. Now, eric kohler went to Freedom High School here in oakley in the bay yare. His parents are hopeful that maybe he will reach out to someone here at home or perhaps someone here in the bay area knows something. This after a very tense standoff on the peninsula. Heres some video of 22yearold Anthony Kirincic being arrested at his parents house in redwood city. Kirincic is accused of killing his exgirlfriend on saturday. Investigators eventually tracked him to his parents house. Once he entered that home, that us in a better situation to set up operimeter, create a tactical plan and provide for a safe arrest of the suspect, which is exactly what we did. Police were able to arrest kirincic for Domestic Violence against colleen straw back in september. He is expected to be in court some time in the next 48 hours. 6 08. Tears and grief this morning as well as Childrens Hospital in oakland. As workers mourn the loss of one of their own. Nurse Patricia Alvarez was taken off life support after being struck by a suspected drunk driver in front of the hospital last wednesday. She worked in the pediatric unit for 35 years. She leaves behind two daughters, three grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren. She believed in patient and family centered care and treated everyone as if they were her own children. Oakland police are not releasing the name of the suspected drunk driver. It is 6 08 right now on your tuesday morning. Were a little bit more than two months away from americas biggest game day which happens to be coming to the bay area. Super bowl l also comes what is expected to be a traffic nightmare for weeks. Later today, San Francisco city leaders will unveil their plan to try to keep things moving. Many events in the days leading up to the game will take place in the city, including the free sand village on Market Street and the nfl experience. Now, the plan is expected to involve alternate muni bus routes. Also, additional transportation will be added over the nineday period but feel more like two weeks with set up. North bay and south bay right now but as we head towards about noon and 1 00 should see numbers in the high to mid50s. And a mixed bag of clouds for the north bay. Might see a stray shower or two near santa rosa. A warmer day tomorrow with mid60s in reach for the south bay. And for the trivalley, but notice thursday, going to see a lot more rain and wind returning to the bay area before the skies clear again for friday. Now for another check of your morning commute, heres mike. Pretty pleasant tuesday and were not looking at a major issue, a problem for the south bay. Typical build for 101 and i want to show you as this volume increases, so does highway 87 where we have that crash. The single biggest incident for the bay northbound and in the middle lanes, two cars sound like theyre wedged together. No major injuries could be reported but an issue delaying them to clear that. That is going to be a problem. The rest of your south bay moves pretty well. This could cause a disruption for the flow. We will track that closely. Meanwhile, the rest of your bay shows a nice, smooth flow. The build for south 680 and down towards fremont and a typical pattern there. Looking at a nice, smooth drive for the upper east shore freeway and over towards the bay bridge toll plaza where you have the metering lights on and quick look at the north bay shows you san rafael, as well. North Carolina Police the woman posted this picture to facebook on friday with the caption this is what happens when you dont shut up. It was shared hundreds of thousands of times before being deleted. While police say it was a bad choice on part, they dit not take the dog away because they say he was generally well cared for. The woman still faces a misdemeanor and could spend several months in jail. 6 15 right now a judge released a new batch of clinton emails. Scott mccrew, many have forgotten all about it. Reporter a couple in minnesota who wish to remain anonymous quietly dropped a personal check for 500,000 into a Salvation Army kettle over the weekend. Mid and highlevel clouds over the bay area and 38 in foster city and to the north bay, petaluma 32 degrees and good enough for patchy frost and napa in the low 30s at this hour. We have high clouds spilling over the bay area and for the north bay, a slight chance of a stray shower and unlike yesterday and next few days High Pressure should keep most of the action off of the north and help to boost our daytime highs through the 60s. Maybe not so much today, but youll notice the warm up for tomorrow. Close to 60 in san jose today. Upper 50s for San Francisco and the peninsula. And, again, mix clouds up towards the north bay today of highs near 650. Upper 50s around the trivalley and then youll notice for tomorrow. Mid60s for highs. Thursday the rain and wind come back into the picture and then skies clear again on friday. East shore temperatures also in the mid60s tomorrow. But heres the headline for thursday morning. Gusty wind and rain. Looks like mainly for this thursday morning commute. Changing over to some scattered showers as we go through the afternoon. If you go to the high country, watch out thursday, another foot of new snow there in the sierra. Good news for the ski resorts and sierra snow pack. For the right now early outlook looks like 50s and 60s for highs and next chance of rain due in mainly north of San Francisco late next sunday. Zoom in to the south bay where there are a couple incidents. Northbound 101 there is that issue right there. A crash looks like its on the shoulder double check from chp. But 87 the best benefit. We had the crash and cars wedged together there. So is the oil that they had to clean up and reopening all lanes now. Slow down from 85 recovering because it is early on in the commute for the south bay. Well track that very closely. Meanwhile, slowing southbound 680 out of concord and in towards the walnut creek interchange and the build for the upper east shore freeway the metering lights are on. Slowing off of 580 and 24. Joyce tangs husband disappeared on november 29th, back un2005 and she has searched for him ever since and thinks this law could bring closure. In general when adults go missing youre allowed to walk out of your house and not come back. The cops dont look into it much. Law was introduced to congress back in september and was referred to a committee. Well, today is world aids day. Last night hundreds gathered in San Francisco to remember those who died from that disease. All part of the annual light in the grove event in golden gate park. The memorial was illuminated with the names of people who passed away. Some 3,200 names etched in stone there. Organizers say theyre hopeful of a future without aids and without hiv. 20 years ago, none of us thought that we would still be here, you know, without a cure. But i can personally say that myself a man living with hiv for the last 15 years that we made great advances. People were asked to record their stories of survival or loss for future generations to learn more about the aids epidemic. Egypts Great Pyramids are growing green this morning. About 20 people left without a place to live this morning after an Early Morning fire tore through their east bay apartment complex. Today in the bay Stephanie Chuang. Steph, the good news is everyone is okay but fire crews ran inunexpected problems while trying to put out those flames. They did, laura. But thankfully they were able to work through the steep area here and a fire hydrant nearby that was sheered off by a car crash. But right now, dark but the fire investigators are still on scene, trying to take a look here. We just learned from the fire marshal minutes ago that it is focused in the kitchen area in terms of cause in this apartment here on the 300 block of joan vista street. This two alarm fire starting at 3 30 this morning. You can see cell phone video caught by one of the neighbors who said she is only one who can still live here if she wants to. The only one of five apartments that is livable. The flames very large early this morning. Fire marshal says everyone was out, but, again, there were some complications. We did speak with the man who called for help running across to help his neighbor and her two young kids when he heard her crying. I looked out my window and id just seen nothing but flames. Ive seen my neighbor crying with her kids trying to antically get out and call 911 all at the same time. Just rushed out there bare foot, no shirt, running, just trying to scramble and there were just flames everywhere. Thank you. And no injuries out of all this, except for the one woman who was in the apartment where this fire started. She did suffer some smoke inhalation and she did not go to the hospital and i spoke with her about 10, 15 minutes ago. A bit fragile, still. Her 7yearold daughter and her 8monthold baby are all okay and thats what shes, of course, most thankful for. She was able to go inside and rummage through some things and was able to save a few items, including a laptop, an ipad, as well as some passports that are really just burnt right through. Today in the bay bob redell joins us live from Hillcrest Park in concord this morning. Bob, what are police saying, if anything right now, about a suspect. Well, we just spoke with police and they dont have a suspect as of right now and theyre still trying to identify the young man who was shot and killed here just after midnight last night, sam. As you can see behind me, they do have a portion of this park still strapped off with crime scene tape and youve got detectives with the major crimes units with the Concord Police Department Still out here. It was just around 05 this morning. That someone was walking through the park that they called 911 to say, hey, i found a man here who is on the ground. Police arrived. The man was unresponsive and they realized he had been suffering from a gun dt shot wound and that 911 caller did stick around and was cooperative with police. This may be gang related. As i mentioned, they dont have the victim i. D. Yet and dont have a suspect as of yet. They did put up a helicopter with infrared heat detecting which they did not find. Again, this is one of several murders that have taken place within the city of concord this year alone which is very unusual. This is our fourth this year and in this area, we havent seen any as of late. So, in this area of concord, its pretty uncommon in this part. Hillcrest parks are very popular park here in the city. The Police Department telling us this morning that, in fact, it will be shut down into the afternoon. They want to get the sunlight out here so they can do a better search of the crime scene area. They have already removed the body of the young man who was shot and killed here last night. This park is also home to a place, a playground for children with disabilities called mateos dream and the renalinal park. Again, it is a popular place. So far the clerks condition is unknown and no word if police were able to catch the gunman. We do have calls out to Antioch Police. We are waiting to hear back. Happening right now, a bay area family in Southern California this morning scouring the streets for their son. Now missing for almost a week. Now police are asking other victims, if any, to come forward. A 17yearold boy said touched him inappropriately during a counseling sessionier this month. Dauphin worked for unity care in the organization fired him after that arrest. San Francisco Police could start their new Body Camera Program next month, but, today, a call for transparency and accountability firsh. Activists from several legal and civil Rights Groups want to voice their concerns about that program before Police Leaders make a final decision on the rules tomorrow. The activists are concerned that officers are going to be able to look at the body camera video before they actually submit an incident report in some situations. Now, a San Francisco Elementary School has become a target for thieves a second time. Actually, two times in two years. The visitation Valley Middle School had fallen victim to theft. Police say this time, those thieves took off with 26 mountain bikes that were stolen during the thanksgiving break. The prince tells us the suspects snapped a Welding Panel to get into an outdoor shed on campus. Now, new security measures will be in place on campus. And, you know, just a little more surveillance on the area just to make sure that we can protect the things that we care about and the resources that are here for the kids. I want to touch on the bay bridge toll plaza and the atroech. Crash south 6 80 right before you get to 24 is moving slower out of concord into walnut creek. This is the issue we talked about southbound at san leandro and maybe marina we have a crash involving a motorcycle and that is still on the middle of the freeway and getting word as chp arrives and the impact on how long it will take to clear. Meanwhile, south of there. Hayward shows the build toward the san mateo bridge. Northbound our routes continue to build for 101 and 85 and 87 recovers and Getting Better speeds as you travel north past the earlier crash scene. The citys been charging hundreds of dollars to anybody trying to recover their car, but now San Francisco is changing its policy for stolen vehicles. This is because of all the outrage over skyhigh fees. Under the new policy, those with a police proving their car was stolen are going to get a 48hour break. This new policy does affect those who get towed because of Street Parking violations. An ambitious development may soon be coming to the south bay. According to the Silicon Valley business journal, a 25story mixed high rise is skcheduled t be built. The proposed design has a futuristic look. The project would include 330 Residential Housing units and about 50,000 square feet of commercial space, including a top floor restaurant. No word when a decision to go ahead with a project will be made. That and the frequent stops to lulu lemon. In the very near future several Tech Companies have looked at santana row for their headquarters. They dont mind all that traffic. The latest is building a new tower near bucca de beppo. A disturbing discovery turns into a Homicide Investigation at a popular East Bay Park. This came after a midnight call to police. Bob redell joins us live near Hillcrest Park in concord. A man found shot to death there just hours ago. At 12 05 this morning right over there on the trail where it bends the chain link fence. Someone was walking through the park and called 911 to say, hey, there is someone unresponsive here and when Police Arrived they did find a younger man, not a juvenile, but somebody who was young suffering from a gunshot wound declared dead here on the scene. Thats what were looking at all possibilities. We actually, we have to find out who the victim is and do background on him and also talk to family members and see if there is anything going on with him. Right now its unclear if its gang related or not. Concord police do have crime scene tape around a good portion of the park. Its going to be this way, this section of the park will be shut down until the afternoon is what we are told. This is the fourth homicide in the city of concord. We just learned from the fire marshal that this all began with an accidental stovetop fire here on the 300 block of joan vista street. You can see where the fire began. Now that it is light, you can see everything burned down. Three dozen firefighters putting this out in 30 minutes. Cell phone video captured by one neighbor shows how big the flames got. Another neighbor woke up when he heard the woman shotting for help in the apartment where this fire began. He called 911 and knocked on doors to get people out. Were talking about 15 people without a home this morning. Including the woman in this apartment with her 8monthold baby and 7yearold daughter. But they are okay. He was a hollywood producer from the bay area and his parents are desperately trying to drum up clues. The 27yearold special effects producer vanished into thin air it seems about a week ago. This is eric kohler and the lastknown image of him walking out of work on tuesday afternoon, but he left without his wallet, laptop or bag. This Surveillance Video police say shows his black range rover pulling into a Grocery Store parking lot just a few miles from where he worked in the city of gardena, south of downtown l. A. Now, police say phone records show his phone was switched off. It has not been on since. He missed thanksgiving with the family in oakley and a major deadline at work.
