Now, to another neighborhood turned upside down. A deadly hostage standoff that unfolded in san jose on monday. In the end, the gunman and a hostage are dead and an officer is also wounded. Today in the bay kris sanchez joins us live. Were learning more about this tense standoff that basically stopped things in this neighborhood for all afternoon. Right. Its all quiet right here right now, sam. But the neighbors say that when this is all developing last night their neighborhood really did feel like a war zone. We know that a man took a woman hostage inside this quaint little home and it did not end well for either of them. An officer who was crazed by a bullet. San jose police say they first got the call about a hostage situation around 2 00 in the afternoon. That there was a suspect in that home and that suspect had reportedly fired two shots into the ground even before he went into that home to hold that woman against her will. Immediately, police set up a perimeter and evacuated neighbors from the surrounding areas because it was a tense situation and police were then trying to make contact with the man inside. The chp even shut down the freeway ramp to highway 85 for some time to sort of contain the situation. We are not confirming how the suspect and the woman know each other, but neighbors say the standoff was really something unlike any of them have seen before. About three hours after the standoff started, police say the man emerged from his home with a handgun and thats when shots were fired and the suspect fell. When officers rushed into the home at that time, it was too late and that woman was no longer alive. Stunned. Ive lived here for about 30 years and i cant recall anything like this happening in my neighborhood. Now to a deadly hostage standoff that unfolded in a quiet south bay neighborhood. Police say an officer is wounded and the gunman and his female hostage are dead this morning. Today in the bay kris sanchez joins us live this morning. Neighbors describe the scene as a war zone. They say it was really like a war zone which is the s. W. A. T unit for the San Jose Police department and forced from their homes and in the end it was not enough to save the life of that woman who was taken hostage in home right here behind me. Now, San Jose Police first got that call about the hostage situation about 2 00 in the afternoon when the suspect entered the home. Police say before he went into the home and took that woman by force, he fired two shots into the ground. Immediately police set up a perimeter, evacuated neighbors from the surrounding homes so that police could try to make, come up with a plan to get to the man inside. The chp even shut down the freeway ramp to highway 85 for a while just to contain the situation. Were not confirming how the suspect and the woman he took hostage knew each other, but neighbors say the standoff was really unlike anything theyve seen in this before. About three hours after the standoff started, it was over. Police say the man came out of the home with a handgun there were shots exchanged and then the suspect fell. Officers rushed into the home, but by that point, it was too late. Stunned. Ive lived here for about 30 years and i cant recall anything like this happening in my neighborhood. Now, you mentions that there was a San Jose Police officer who was shot. He was crazed by a bullet and his injuries are nonlife threatening. The bay areas largest city is back on line this morning after a massive cyberattack slowed things down for days. Lets bring in our business and techer scott mcgrew now with a much closer look at what happened. Scott, you say this is probably not the work of professionals. Yeah, because of the type of hack, sam. Were not talking about the deep invasion into data that wed see when were this was a denial of service attack. Really, the oldest and most simple sort of internet attack. It knocked the Police Departments website off line for a while. Now, in a denial of service attack, hackers send massive amounts of data to one site overming it and shutting it down. If this were tennis, you could think of the web server as Serena Williams and the attack is a tennis ball machine. One machine is fine and 1,000 machines not so much. Were talking not about an invasive attack that steals data as much as an annoying hack that causes sites to stall. Now, sam, the obvious question here is why. Why did this happen . Who was doing it . Thats not clear, but the city of san jose says theyve been able to make the adjustments, hand that extra data and the sites are back up online this morning. But it was crippling enough and lasted several days before they could get it back. Thank you very much, scott mcgrew from our newsroom. Happening today the city of san jose considering easing the brakes a bit and taxi drivers not thrilled about that. Planning to respond with anotherer strike than the ones they staged yesterday. This protocol follows litigation that was filed, i understand, in San Francisco. Thats right. Players and parents sued u. S. Soccer over the issue of concussion on the field. They didnt want monetary damages, but they wanted changes to the rules and they got. The settlement was announced yesterday and the u. S. Soccer federation announced new guidelines for u. S. Youth national teams. Were taking mainly three things. Banning soccer players ten years and younger from ever heading the ball. Limiting players 11 to 13 to head the ball only during games, not practice. And instead of coaches having medical professionals on the field can stay in the game. U. S. Soccer says these rules are really to accomplish a couple things. First, improve concussion awareness and education and also to build more around on how to manage concussion. U. S. Soccer says it consult would the medical Science Community in creating the new protocols and guidelines. There are, of course, reactions. We heard from social media mike vincent tweeting, this is why the u. S. Will never be good. Response from taylor trelmen who told you, cant tell you how emotional i am. Watch the slowing for the off ramp and over here, there is a slow lane and consider that blocked as there is a vehicle there, as well. So, people can decide how much they want to save or how little they want to save. It is completely within the discretion of the individual. And they can do it in a way that is completely safe.
