A rule switch is fueling a fight between taxi drivers in san jose. City leaders are considering easing up rules for ride sharing drivers at san jose maneta interal airport. Kris sanchez live this morning. Taxi drivers plan to take some action today, i understand. Yeah. At 8 00, laura, theyre going to stop picking up and dropping off passengers here at maneta san jose. We have seen drivers picking up and dropping off passengers, the plan is to go on strike at 8 00. At that point, maneta san hocould look a lot like sfo did. At that point passengers got stuck in the middle waiting to get a ride out while taxi drivers circled the airport. Tomorrow the city council will consider backing down on requirements for ridesharing companies. Back in june they opened up the airport to city drivers and apply for the city businesses licenses. According to the mercury news not a single lyft driver signed up because of those requirements. While the city will keep the business requirement, it is hitting the brakes on mandatory fingerprinting for ride sharing drivers and the city will consider random checks on a small percentage of drivers, instead. It will also set aside the requirement that uber and lyft drivers be in cars less than ten years old and less than 400,000 miles. Taxi drivers say the city is just caving and making it very difficult for them to do business out here. So, at 8 00 this morning, you will not see any taxi drivers picking up or dropping off, but you will see them circling the airport. At maneta san jose, kris sanchez. Thank you. Bob redell with the very latest. San jose police still dont know theyre still trying to figure out what caused a woman who is hind the wheel of that blue pickup truck what caused her before 4 00 this morning to lose control of her pickup and slam it ina large pepper tree here on southbound almaden expressway. Just south of the redmond intersection. The impact was so strong, it sent a hand truck, one of those dollies if youve seen it before in the back of the pickup and sent that flying about 30 feet into the air. Now the crash killed the driver who police say was in her mid30s. The impact also seriously injured her two male passengers who are also in her mid30s. One of the men was able to cross the back and the other one was stuck in the front and had to be extricated by the fire department. Both of them taken to the hospital, again, serious injuries. But they are both expected to survive. The Police Department would like to interview them and get bater sense of what led up to the crash. Right now, they do not have an indication of drugs or alcohol. The roads were wet, but they dont know if that had anything to do with this. A lot of items in that pickup truck as you see back out here live. They dont know if it was overloaded or if that had anything to do with it. They are still trying to figure that out. The southbound almaden expressway shut down. And the estimated time of reopening is another hour, perhaps another hour and a half and an issue of removing the medical truck. Reporting live here in san jose, redell today in the bay. We take a look for bob as i left off here southbound 85 is closed still from camden.
