Its been eight years since nicky and dan mccarthy lost their daughter to a rare blood disorder. She was spunky. She was very strong for a teeny tiny person. My husband said she had an electric personality. Reporter she spent years in and out of hospitals through medicines, needles and bone Marrow Transplant at age 11 one thing kept her going, music. The equivalent of maximum security prison in the hospital music was the ticket to escape that world. There was a music therapist who would come in and knock on the door and it was like brians hear. I asked what is your moms favorite song. She said her favorite artist is matt carney. I loved him, too. For mothers day they recorded a song and it is the greatest mothers day gift. I have this piece of music that is her voice. At the beginning she says this ones for you, mom. And sings the song that i will have forever. Its such a special gift to have that. Sounds as beautiful today as it did yesterday. One of the lines in the song is nothing worth anything ever goes down easy. It was the story of what we went through. It was horrible, but i got this beautiful life. She was a beautiful kid. It was worth everything even for a short time. It was able to turn what is incredible pain and create something that brings joy to children and their parents. Reporter nicky started sams fans a nonprofit to raise money for music and art therapy for kids like sam. It is a family affair. So far they have raised more than 150,000 for ohio hospitals.
