Yeah, we are talking about the greatest olympian of all time, just arrived here a few minutes ago, Michael Phelps will be with us. Katie ledecky is here, rewriting the record books and Simone Manuel. So many more of those Medal Winners are here from team usa, were going to talk to all of them coming up. Also were going to talk about the scary incident the last 24 hours for another group of swimmers including ryan lochte. They were robbed but luckily unharmed. Well hear from ryan. Last night a glamour event of track and field, the mens 100 meter dash and for the Third Straight olympics, usain bolt reigns supreme. Still invincible. Usain bolt. On the track winning with style, jamaicas usain bolt destroying the competition in the 100 meter dash. The first sprinter to ever do so. The crowd and the stadium and in his hometown erupting with cheers. After a slow start, bolt passed american Justin Gatlin in the final seconds. Gatlin settling for silver while bolt took selfies of his fans and striking his signature pose. Later, bolt embracing wade van de kirk who stunned the world sunday. They come to the finish. In his first olympics the 24yearold set a world record in the 400 meters meeting the record set in 1999. His coach who also happens to be a greatgrandmother looking on. In gymnastic simone biles once again taking gold. Delivering an amazing performance on vault to become the First American gymnast male or female to win three golds in a single game. And she could win two more, competing on balance beam today and in the floor exercise tomorrow. Her teammate Madison Kocian took silver on the uneven bars. Alex la door won on pommel horse. Great britain won its first gold in the floor exercise but it was brazil that stole the show on the floor. Taking silver and bronze. The men shed tears of joy in front of a hometown crowd. In the pool team usa showing its dominance, american swimmers racked up 33 medals, 16 gold, led by superstars Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky. And she hammers it home. Overnight team usa crushed australia in womens beach volley ball. Kerri walshjennings and april ross celebrating in front of an ecstatic star including leslie jones and members of the u. S. I was thinking about that. You also told me when we got together you fell in love with swimming again. I wonder if you wont miss it morement after london you werent in love with swimming. I can understand. What about now . For me now its just being able to i think the biggest thing between now and london i was so much more emotional during these games, that showed at times. Thats the difference. Because i knew this was the last time. I knew this was the last race i ever had and the last olympics i had. And everything just really hit hard. And i guess some of it i guess some people at home saw where i mean, as soon as i walked into the warm down before that final night, the tears started coming filling up in my eyes and bob and i shared some of those emotional moments with one another. And you know, i was thinking my last warmup, my last warmdown, last time putting on a suit. My last cold tub, i did all of that. Now i question the question is this is last time . I have a feeling not. I dont know why. I have a feeling not. You always give me the straight arm when i ask you about your olympic goals which i understood but what about your personal goals now . What do you want to do as a 31yearold leaving swimming behind, with a long life ahead. This is a part of my life where i get to start this whole new chapter and continuing to build a family with nicole and continue to travel, continue to contribute to the sport of swimming. I want to try to not only in the u. S. But also change the drowning rate we have, something that is a goal of mine. Weve been able to teach thousands of kids. I want the numbers higher so. We have a full plate and full schedule of things and i still have those. Ryan lochte said youve been following on that, luckily he is okay. Before the incident with the robbery, he stop bid here, i want to show you what he said. I heard what he said. You look in the camera and say michael, ill see you in tokyo. You know, kates doing her thing and shes breaking records every time she gets in the pool. Its been an honor for me to be part of the team with her and some of the younger guys that we have coming up in the sport that are going to take over and you know, i told a bunch of them i wont be far away if they need anything to reach out. Yeah, probably a huge impact on as you said, a lot of the young swimmers that are on the team this year, we all looked up to him when we were 6 years old and now to be on the team i didnt mean it like that. Sorry. Its just i mean, i started watching him when i was 6 years old starting to get in the sport. To be on a team with him has been such an honor, not only to see his impact but out of the pool as well he has been a leader on this team and thats why we came away with these medals. Matt asked you when he interviewed you he said write the headline for when you leave the olympics. Your headline was, Katie Ledecky had fun. Tell us how much fun did you have when you were at the Olympic Games . I had a ton of fun. I had my goals in the water but one of those goals was to have fun. I couldnt have asked for a better time with my teammates, see them succeed and the fun outside of the water as well. The best. She looked like she was smiling sometimes in the pool when you were swimming. That shot of you and that smile. Were you feeling that good when you were racing . Its fun to swim fast too. Im happy with how this week has gone. You talk about swimming fast. The 800 you crushed the competition and you beat your own world record by two seconds. After you said Something Like i just thought i would go for it. Makes it sound like you can drop a world record at will s. That the case these days . Its never easy to break a world record. It takes a lot of hard work and you know, every day getting in the pool and giving it my all. Its my last race of the meet and i wanted to remember it really well. A lot of hometown love, you are from maryland. The capitals were playing against the braves the nationals against the braves. And they decided to stop and watch you on the big screen. Did you were you able to see a clip of that . I saw a clip. What does that make you feel like knowing the hometown crowd is cheering. It means so much to have the support from maryland and the d. C. Turning to the news, frightening moments for passengers at new yorks jfk airport after reports shotted had been fired. Police evacuated terminal 8, flights were temporarily grounded. Multiple emergency agencies rushed to the scene. In about 45 minutes after that a second terminal, terminal 1, was evacuated. This all started when a woman coming off of a plane said she thought she heard gun fire. It turns out cheering, clapping and loud celebrations from people watching, yes, the olympics, may have been misinterpreted as a fight and gun shots. Things are back to normal there. To politics. As you can see on main street, you can see the damage to several businesses including a habitat for humanity building. We retraced the rount he took and guys, there are still many questions. Where is the taxi driver they were with, why did he pull over. Ryan lochte partying just hours before he was robbed at gunpoint. Saying overnight, we are safe and unharmed. Telling todays billy bush in an exclusive interview the robbers pretended to be police. We got pulled over in our taxi, and these guys came out with a badge, a police badge. No lights, no nothing. A police badge. They pulled us over, they pulled out their guns, they told the other swimmers to get down on the ground. They got down on the ground. Forced to the ground, team usa john bens and jimmy fagan who had been celebrating with him. I refused. I was like we didnt do anything wrong. So im not getting down on the ground and the guy pulled out his gun, he cocked it, put it to my forehead and said get down, and i was like i put my hands up like, whatever. Then heading home. On this route lochte says he and his three teammates were forced off the road. It was near a gas station. The swimmers handing over money. The journey to the podium starting at age four. Her talent and determination taking her to stanford and then to rio where along with her gold, shes taken two silvers. Not to mention a selfie with her fellow golden girl, simone. Lebron games giving them both an instagram shoutout that says it all. Inspiring for so many especially young black girls. This we will have some warm temperatures today as we head farther inland, but San Francisco, nice comfortable 67 degrees. Morning clouds will slowly clear out. And well be in the low to mid70s over the next two days. It will be trending warmer in time for the weekend into the 70s to 71 degree mark. But then as we go inland, it will be hot. Temperatures especially through wednesday reaching 99 degrees. 95 degrees on thursday. And it does come down several degrees in time for the weekend, but still warmer than average. The 200 has always been my favorite race. I always call it my baby. 400 is a new challenge to me. Im not as comfortable with it. Definitely outside of my usual realm. I caught up with her at uclas Drake Stadium this past spring. For people who only follow track every four years of the olympics, to be clear 400 is one time around. One time around. Doesnt look that hard. For anyone who has ever run a 400 slow or fast, its one of the most gruelling events out there. You just dont feel good in it. Rio will be bittersweet though. At the olympic track and field events last night, felix nursing an ankle injury from april saw her hopes of a golden repeat in the 200 come to an end. She placed fourth losing by the narrowest of margins. How many times have you run that 200 qualifying in your head. So many times. I mean, it was so close. It was unfortunate about the whole ankle thing and not quite enough time. The gun sends them on their way. A fierce competitor, felix has raced since 2004 collecting four gold medals and two silvers along the way. Describe the moment when you know youre going to win it. Sometimes you dont know until the very, very end. When you know at that final moment and you zip for the line and you think you have it, its just joy that all of the hard work has paid off. Felix was known as chicken legs in high school but her parents call her by a sweeter moniker. Shug. Short for sugar . Short for sugar. Is she hard on herself . She is very hard on herself. Shes a real competitor. And she hates losing, but i think she loses gracefully. Her brother, wes, has always been by her side both at home and on her track. Hes her agent. Wes, how have you helped try to keep your sister focused given all shes been through . She has done the hard work. I keep her focused on her goals and all you have to do is break it down and stay focused on one step at a time and do the best you can. Do you two ever bicker . We used to growing up but not anymore. We are close now. Our mom loves that word bicker. We heard that a lot growing up. Felix aims for the sky in rio. Happy birthday to you her close and deeply spiritual family keeps her grounded. We have a tradition before the competition she does call if im not with her and we have prayer together and talk about things that are important in terms of the outcome of the race. It helps diversify the sport and hopefully it shows people that i if i can do it, they can do it too. Just getting minorities into the sport and being water safe is the most important thing. As legend goes, at 11 years old you said to mom how come more girls dont look like me in the pool . Did it become a specific goal of yours to get more girls to look like you in the pool . I dont think it was a specific goal but after i did my research, i realized that if i became pretty good at swimming, it was bigger than myself, that it wasnt just about my accomplishments in that i could one day make an impact on other peoples lives and that happened and i was surprised and im completely humbled by this experience. We saw the emotion in the pool and on the medal stand, is that part of what it is . Definitely part of my journey. This year was a tough year. Just training for the olympics, its a fouryear journey and i speak for all of us when we put a lot of hard work, dedication and sacrifices into that. So just to see it pay off is i mean, theres a lot of emotions when you touch the wall and win gold. Katie, boy, did you deliver here . Crushing your own world record and by 11. 38 seconds faster than the nearest competitor in the 800. We talked this weekend about what that was like. That 11 seconds must have felt like an eternity. I caught a couple spots to watch here. Over here is fremont and southbound 680 really jammed up. Some call it 237 and its a different name right there. Theres a crash blocking one lane. You see that section of red there. Farther over on the peninsula, northbound 280 slows. Just got word of a crash. We expect the slowing, but this makes it worse there.
