Savannah, good morning. This home obliterated, ripped from the foundation. Debris everywhere. At least two people were killed in oklahoma, including a man in his 70s. You dont often see the explosive power of a tornado outbreak quite like this. Reporter it is a rare, intense glimpse at natures fury. A deadly, monster tornado, almost a mile wide, captured up close on camera, chewing through everything in its path. This morning, wynnewood, oklahoma, is assessing the damage. No structure spared. Brick homes, mobile homes, woodframed barns, ripped apart. It blew off of its foundation and is pretty much parked in the driveway. Reporter at least half a dozen twisters. Theres a car right there. You need to back up. Reporter hammered the state all evening. Hit another barn or another structure. Reporter across the country, at least 19 reported tornadoes, including touchdowns in nebraska and iowa. Dangerous, dangerous situation here. After a report released monday by the website gizmodo, that says a team of facebook employees had intentionally suppressed news articles from conservative news sources. These news curators coming forward to say they were also instructed to artificially inject certain stories into the trending news module. In interviews, the curators describing grueling work conditions and humiliating treatment. According to a former journalist who worked on the project, workers prevented stories about mitt romney, rand paul and other conservative topics from appearing in the trending section, even though they were organically trending among the sites users. Facebook boasts hundreds of millions of monthly active users. This story itself a trending topic all night long. During facebooks april keynote address, Mark Zuckerberg touched on politics. Reporter investigators said the most likely cause was fireplace ashes left in a bag in the houses mudroom. Badgers boyfriend had always taken the blame. According to partial Court Documents obtained, he said during a recent lawsuit deposition, it was badger who left the bag of ashes in the room. He said he lied to protect madonna and to spare her from carrying the burden that maybe she had done something to hurt her family. Now, madonna badger is responding to the allegation in an exclusive statement to nbc news. She said, i feel sorry for him. I feel incredibly sad for him. Badger did not want to say any more because there is so much pending litigation. In 2012, she acknowledged but downplayed his initial claims about what he did with the ashes. I dont believe that the ashes caused the fire. So i dont believe that mike is responsible for starting the fire. Reporter she told matt she believes the flames were sparked by an electrical problem at the home, which was being renovated. So how is it that you have a little bit of ashes cause this enormous fire that spread so quickly . Reporter the girls father, matthew badger, is battling subcontractors and the city of stanford in court. His Attorney Says he wont rest until he gets answers about why his precious girls died. The badgers questioned why the city tore down the house after the fire, making it hard for investigators to find a cause. Michael was the contractor for the project. He and his Insurance Company agreed to pay 5 million to settle a lawsuit filed by the childrens father. But this isnt snow, its sand, white sand. 275 square miles of it. An ocean of rippling white waves. Beautiful. Its really pretty, isnt it . Reporter naturally blank canvas reflecting a range of dazzling colors. Wild. Reporter White Sands National monument is the largest gypsum dune field in the world. Gypsum particles, used in plaster and dry wall, sparkle like diamonds here. The sand is as soft as talcum powder and cool to the touch, even in the hottest desert sun. Its like the most perfect beach youll find anywhere without the ocean, but the temperature of it is unbelievable. During the heat of the day, it can get to be 100 degrees here. The sand remains as cool as we can. Reporter it is a land constantly in motion. Newly formed dunes can advance up to 30 feet in a year. Its also a land of history. Nearby White Sands Missile range wasnt only the site of the first atopic bomb test in 1945, its also home to the only emergency Space Shuttle landing on march 30th, 1982, when Space Shuttle columbia had to land here because of flooding at Edwards Air Force base. Al discovered, with a little planning, you can visit more than one on the same trip. 160 miles from here, white sands monument, is Carlsbad Caverns in carlsbad, new mexico. This is an aweinspiring sight if youre willing to travel below the surface. Reporter beneath this landscape lies a hidden world, a world thats being explored and discovered. Carlsbad caverns National Park is home to the largest cave chamber in the entire country. There are 118 caves below the desert surface and 180 miles of known passageways. For the last half million years, carlsbad cavern has decorated itself drip by drip by drip. Moisture, minerals and time have turned droplets of water into works of art. Some of these impressive cave formation s have just as impres impressive names. Stalagmites. Stalactites. Others sound adorable. Like popcorn, soda straws and draperies. Half a million tourists every year come here to Carlsbad Caverns. Yes. Reporter and i wanted to be one of those intrepid explorers. Im so excited. Were going into the caverns. Lets do it the first thing you notice down here, the temperature drops up. Up there, its 100 degrees. Here, its in the 50s, humidity is higher and cave swallow droppings. Its like ambrosia. They gave them names like fairy land, witchs finger and rock of ages. This is the whales mouth. You can see pinocchio if you look close enough. Known for its spectacular draperies. Look to the right. Wow. Reporter a cave specialist here in Carlsbad Caverns. So many other places, everything is known about the caves. There are still a lot of unknowns here. Absolutely. Caves are one of the few places in the world we can actually go and be the first human to go there. To make the first footsteps in its passage. Thats what i call the wonder down under. While humans are visitors here at carlsbad cavern, many animals call this place home. In the late spring and summer, swarms of brazilian free tailed bats emerge from the depths of the cave, in search of a meal. And every night, park visitors are invited to watch. The Largest Chamber in the caverns is called, appropriately enough, the big room. It is large enough to house six football fields. Wow, we made it to the big room. This is truly amazing. Wow. Mrs. Bush, your daughters got together to share your familys National Park memories and why they think you are special, as well. Take a look. My mom loves the outdoors. She loves being around her friends. She still spends time with all her childhood friends and they go hiking in National Parks every summer together. She loves nature, and we love, as a family, spending time together at our ranch, being in nature. One of my favorite memories with my mom was travels we took together. Once, she took me rafting down the grand canyon. For six nights, we shared a tent. That shows you how much we love each other, that shed share a tent with me for six days. I would describe my mom as lovely and kind and graceful. She has a calmness about her thats very refreshing and makes you feel calm, also. I am always astonished when i think back to the way that she raised us, which was, she never really pushed us. I think she wanted us to be curious and outspoken. I look at her quiet grace and how she led us to be ourselves. And totally accepted us as who we are. I hope i can make mila and poppy feel the same way. I hope our mom knows were so grateful that we have such a smart, funny, loving mom. I hope my mom knows how much shes impacted us. How much she showed us every single day, even when she was the first lady, that we were her top priority. And that she taught us the love of being outdoors, the love of reading, the love of really everything that i love comes from my mom. So sweet. Cue the waterworks. Made myself cry. You two, we have to pull it together. Youve written this great book, our great big backyard. How did this come about . I guess we both thought of it. We wrote another book together, read all about it, and we wanted to do another book. The centennial of the National Parks was the perfect time to write a story about a little girl who was always taking selfies or looking at her tablet or playing video games. I was going to say, your protagonist, jane. There is an evil villain, the screen in this case. Technology doesnt have to be used for bad things. I wrote the book when i was on maternity leave. Wed be in the car driving, new york city, seeing all these funny, fun things out the window, and all mila wanted to do was watch shows on the ipad. I want to live in a world where my girls look up. My mom what is wrong with me . My mom taught me and barbara to look up because our world has all of this magic in it. If youre constantly looking down at things, youll miss out on the beauty of life. You probably remember when jenna and barbara were little. Were they looking down or looking out the windows . They didnt have the screens to look at. We tried to show them places we thought were beautiful. Jenna and i got to go on the grand Canyon Colorado river trip and hike out of the south rim, ten mile hike. My mom goes with her best friends every year. They took daughters one year and never again. They got to go with us once but that was it. Too much motherdaughter drama. The guys are definitely not invited. Just my friends that i grew up with in midland, texas. We hike every year in the National Park. We have 30 years. The first year we hiked together, we did the same Colorado River trip. Then hiking out of the south rim of the grand canyon. We did that for a second time with the girls. The first night, there was a crazy sandstorm and my mom wears 1980s hard contacts. She had to wear goggles. I remember dust and me leading my mother along and an opioid l of tequila. No longer drinks but there was an opioen bottle of tequila. You are National Park nerds and get your passport stamps every time you go. I was the National Park nerd, wearing goggles at the National Park. We probably hold that title. Its a great book, and kids will love it. Great message. You can build the fire rings you can drop in and fill it. Then you have a fire pit to make smores, enjoy the heat. This put 20 minutes to put together. These stones are piled one on top of the other. Fantastic. Do whatever shape you want. Once you enjoy the smores, doesnt matter about the fire pit. Is that the only thing you can cook . No, im good. You are good . Yeah. Thats how it looks before. The fire ring makes sure its safe and fire wont spread. We try to come up with fires th projects that you can disassemble in the winter. Things like this arent permanent. Pennsylvania driver is being sued for wrongful death and negligence by the state of a motorcycle rider killed by a woman distracted by incoming texts. The judge was asked to determine if the men sending the texts to the woman who got in the wreck could be liable. Texting and driving is a huge problem. Each day, eight people in the u. S. Are killed. 860 injured in crashes involving a distracted driver. No question, it is a huge problem and we have to do something about it. I dont see this one though. If im an attorney, id love that as a client. Youre going to slam the guy who sent the text . You dont know theyre driving. How do you know where they are when theyre receiving it . The only way i know sometimes, my friend has and its brilliant when she is driving, the her Text Messages are disabled. I get a message that says, im driving right now. Please text me later. Theres an app for that. A lot of bartenders, there were different lawsuits in the past where they were sued for overser serving someone. Theyd say, how did i know this man or woman was intoxicated . When i was a reporter in texas, one of the first big lawsuits of its kind was filed after there was a fatal accident. The bartender was sued for allegedly over serving that person. There, you have the person in front of you and you can see their behavior. But you cant gauge who is over the limit. Right. I mean, that was why the bartender won. You cant prove that. Theres no way. First of all, if youre driving, put the phone in the glove box or somewhere you cant reach it. This is on the person driving the vehicle. Im from florida. A lot of the roads are flat and long. Its really easy to do this. I see people swerving all the time. Huge, huge problem. It is the person driving the vehicle, their responsibility. Hey, it can wait. Im only in the car 15, 30 minutes. Where celebrating the National Parks, 100th anniversary. This morning, matt and al are in White Sands National monument, new mexico. Its beautiful there. Theyre joining us now. Hey, guys. Guys . Yeah, it is now finally starting to warm up. It was a bit brisk earlier. Mid 40s earlier in the day. Not until the sun starts coming up do you finallstart to feel a little warmer. But the landscape here is like lunar. Its unbelievable. We arrived here in the dark, the sun comes up and you get all these hues of pink and orange. All of a sudden, they set off these dunes that go on for as far as the eyes can see. 275 square miles of nothing but white, pearly white sand. Its this gypsum, material in your plaster board, in food, in fact. It creates sand thats unlike any place else. What is amazing is the temperatures get to like 90 to 100 degrees, and the sand is upwards of 40 degrees cooler. Unbelievably cool. We were walking yesterday on one of these pristine dunes. You know how the wind makes the beautiful pattern in sand if given the chance . We were walking along, and i saw this beautiful what i thought was a piece of, i dont know, desert mineral in the sand. So i just reached down to pick it up to show al that i was of nature and i could stop and appreciate things. I picked it up and we looked and realized it was a dung ball. We put that immediately down. He dropped it. You all know what a germaphobe this guy is. Yeah. Hes literally going like this on me. The problem was, there were no footprints around it. Its like, i dont know how it got there. It wasnt me. I know that much. Oh, al. The other neat thing here in new mexico, were only about 140 miles from Carlsbad Caverns. If you guys have not been, it is unbelievable. Its 750 feet down. The most amazing rock formations you will ever see. This thing is over a million years old. I got to tell you, i was just stunned. I was also exhausted because you have to go down the elevator is broken. Its 75 stories down. 75 stories up. So its a workout. Weve got the new mexico National Park monument workout going. Its been great. Its been a nice trip. And we got to see the Worlds Largest pistachio. We did. Giant pistachio. Call it a day. Its at pistachio land. Its unbelievable.
