Got the olympic medal plaza in the background, the caldron there, the blue building in the background, the iceberg, figure skating and short track skating to be held there. And up in the distance, how about that backdrop . Those are the mountains, not of sochi, the snowcovered mountains of georgia. The mountains of sochi to the right here, savannah. Geography lesson, matt giving us the lay of the land. It looks beautiful there. It was clear skies last night, game time for the super bowl. 49 degrees. It was warmer in new york than it was in denver and seattle. Oh, man, look at Metlife Stadium this morning, what a difference. 34 degrees, snow is falling, and, apparently, were going to have a lot more of that. Yeah. Its going to be changing very quickly here in new york city. In fact, schools canceled all around new york city, not in the city yet. We are in the Weather Channel calling this first storm maximus, second storm nitka. Lets show you what maximus caused for our friends in arkansas yesterday. 4 to 6 inches of snow causing massive traffic headaches. Dozens and dozens of accidents being reported. A lot of big problems, cars off into the ditch. And this is making its way to the east. And theyre going to get hit with the second storm nitka. Lets show you, we have two winter storms. Thats our todays top weather story. And you can already see, its starting to make its way into the northeast. So we are looking at a storm system that is going to really be very dynamic. There you can see the rain snow line. Its now making its way south of new york city. So here we go. We have winter storm warnings stretching from long island all the way back to lexington, kentucky. In the new england Winter Weather advisories in effect. Heres what were looking for snowfall wise. Generally about 3 to 6 inches of snow, 6 to 9 inches of snow, new york city on down into washington, d. C. Then our second storm system getting itself together. Winter storm watches, Winter Weather advisories, winter storm warnings from tuesday into wednesday as we get the future cast cranked up. You can see snow in the rockies making its way across omaha into st. Louis, chicago, cleveland, all the way into new york. Look at these snowfall totals. We are talking about 9 to 12 inches of snow in northern missouri as we make our way to the east. Central indiana, into ohio, another 9 to 12 inches of snow. And then look at when we get into the northeast. We are expecting by wednesday, new york, another 6 to 9 just to the west. This is a foot to a foot and a half in central pennsylvania. And, folks, lets look live at philadelphia. This is whats happening right now. Philadelphia schools are now canceled, as well. This is going to be a setup for a real week of misery. And and the models are suggesting, guys, that late this weekend into next week, we could have a blockbuster of a coastal storm where we will be talking about snow in feet. From the day the game was announced, weather was the only thing anyone was talking about. It turns out, weather wasnt a factor yesterday, it was 49 degrees at kickoff. You know what else wasnt a factor . The denver broncos. And thats should be it. Reporter the Seattle Seahawks didnt just win super bowl xlviii, they dominated. Snapped over the head started just 12 seconds into the game when they scored a safety. The fastest score in super bowl history. The seahawks turned that into a 220 lead at halftime. Touchdown, seattle reporter and speaking of halftime bruno mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers rocked Metlife Stadium. It was more seahawks in the second half. In fact, an 87yard kickoff return started the half. Four turnovers by denver left no doubt as the seahawks cruised for their first ever super bowl title. Touchdown, seattle reporter the victory followed by euphoric chaos on the field. Or in other words, it was unbelievable. There was an alarming hostage situation in russia overnight. And when the news first broke of this, we thought it could be related to the start of the games in just three days. It turned out to be something very different. We have jim maceda live in moscow this morning. Jim, good morning, what can you tell us . Reporter well, thats right, this turned out to be a disgruntled student who apparently according to eyewitnesss had a conflict with his High School Geography teacher. He stormed the school today firing from two rifles as he made his way to the classroom and his teacher where he shot and killed that teacher and opened fire on police who had responded to an alarm killing one and wounding another. He held about 20 other students hostage until the shooter was persuaded to give up. Again, matt, not a terror attack, but still a very scary and rare incident here in moscow where everyones a little nervous. Matt, back to you. Jim, thank you very much. As we said, it does highlight the security concerns here in sochi as the games are set to begin. Athletes are now arriving, fans are arriving. Journalists are also arriving. And the big question remains, is this region ready . The mountains blanketed in snow and inviting members of team usa who have already touched down in sochi. Ive never been to russia. This is my first day on the mountain and theres so much powder. Reporter with a 50 billion price tag, these are the most expensive games in history. But there are indications that not all of sochi is ready for its closeup. There are 41,000 hotel rooms here, almost all of them brand new. So new, in fact, many are still without furniture. It continues to arrive. A frenzy of Activity Still ongoing in olympic park and surrounding roads. Some olympians and spectators may never actually see the town of sochi, warned to stay away as security concerns linger. Behind me is the main Security Check point to get in and out. There are several of them, but thats the main one. If you drive there with a vehicle, you get out of the car. The car is checked from top to bottom. They open the doors, the trunk, the engine compartment. They look inside it all. Take mirrors and go underneath the car looking for any explosive device or anything that might be attached to the undercarriage of the vehicle. The people go into a separate building, you put your credentials in a scanner to make sure youre legitimate. Youre then sent through a metal detector, wanded and patted down. They not only check your credentials coming into the park, but going out, as well. Reporter between 5 billion and 6 billion has been spent to ensure the safety of these games. Some of the security precautions you might not notice. Im in a grassy field in the middle of olympic park and the Manhole Covers have been foamed and glued closed. Not just one, but every single one. Foamed and glued to make sure nobody can open them up and hide something inside. The ioc promises despite lastminute glitches, the games are in good hands. They will put on a great show. Reporter 25,000 volunteers have been trained to help make sure that happens. State of the art venues are ready and so are the athletes who begun to train here. And just be in the olympic spirit again. I mentioned the athletes had begun to train here. Theyve begun to arrive here. And we take a turn now to the tragic and surprising death of one of the most talented actors in hollywood, oscar winner Philip Seymour hoffman. Take a look, you can see a memorial growing here outside Philip Seymour hoffmans apartment. This was an actor who could play so many different roles, appeal to so many different people. This morning, all shock that he is gone. Fans of Philip Seymour hoffman could only watch as new york police sealed off his Greenwich Village apartment. The actor, just 46, dead of an apparent Drug Overdose. According to police sources, hoffman was found by a friend in the bathroom. He was found in a tshirt and shorts with a needle in his left arm, and envelopes nearby that are believed to have heroin in them. Reporter hoffman was known as an actors actor, he could disappear into almost any role. From his oscar winning turn in capote, to lester bangs in almost famous. You take drugs . No. Smart kid. Reporter he appealed to younger fans portraying plutarch heavensbee in the hunger games catching fire. The role he was in the middle of reprising in mocking jay parts one and two. He had seven days left to film that, but as far as we know Film Production says they will not delay the release of the film. Reporter the actor who was also a threetime tony nominee for his work on broadway was most recently seen at sundance promoting a most wanted man. But off camera, the star was fighting a battle with addiction. After more than two decades of sobriety, he reportedly relapsed and checked himself into rehab last year. In a statement, his family said, we are devastated by the loss of our beloved phil. This is a tragic and sudden loss. And we ask you respect our privacy during this time of grieving. Please keep phil in your thoughts and prayers. Reporter now, an autopsy is scheduled for later today. The results of toxicology tests could take some time. Celebrities have been taking to twitter to offer up their condolences, but its important to note, savannah, that around here the neighbors i talked to said he was really known as a neighborhood dad. He had three kids. He was often seen here with them. Kristen, its such a sad story. Thank you for that. I think everybody who heard this news yesterday felt like a punch in the gut. Heartbreaking. This could be a key day in the socalled bridgegate investigation swirling around new Jersey Governor Chris Christie as new revelations call into question what christie knew and when he knew it. Remember those 20 subpoenas to key figures around governor christie, well many of those are due back to new jersey lawmakers today. While the governor enjoyed the big game this weekend and played his own offense. Chris christie had something to cheer about at the Biggest Party as new jersey hosted super bowl xlviii. This weekend, the Governors Team ran a new political play striking back at exPort Authority official David Wildstein after his lawyer floated in a letter that evidence exists Chris Christie knew about the traffic mess while it was happening last fall. Christie denies that. The lawyer made the allegations in a letter demanding the Port Authority pay wildsteins legal bills. New jersey lawmakers say wildstein has produced no new evidence. Nothing that says the governor knew contemporaneously which is the allegation hes making now. Reporter christie had already distanced himself from wildstein who had supervised the lane closures, both attended the same high school. David and i were not friends in high school, we were not even acquaintances in high school. But high school came back in a stinging memo sent to christie supporters saturday that stated David Wildstein will do and say anything to save David Wildstein. The memo listed a series of criticisms of wildsteins work and character including this. He was publicly accused by his High School Social studies teacher of deceptive behavior. Reporter and we attempted to reach David Wildstein about that memo. We were unsuccessful. Governor christie says he knew nothing about the plot behind the traffic scandal until that news broke about a month ago. Natalie . Kelly odonnell in ft. Lee, new jersey, thanks so much, kelly. A manhunt underway in the midwest this morning for an escaped killer. Officials say Michael David eliot was discovered missing sunday from a michigan prison where hed been serving a life sentence for murder. Hes believed to be armed. Eliot allegedly carjacked a womans vehicle nearby. The woman got away unhurt in indiana. President obamas defending himself in the face of criticism over benghazi, irs, and the new health care website. And a sometimes contentious interview with bill oreilly of fox news. He says he tries to focus not on the fumbles, but on the next plan. He also said the issue of the irs targeting Tea Party Groups has been cleared up by hearings in congress. The worst encounter she describes was in an attic. But inappropriate behavior, quote, happened so often, i thought it was how fathers doted on their daughters. Reporter but ever since the claims surfaced years ago, he has vehemently denied the allegations and never been charged with a crime. His publicist responded to dylans letter saying mr. Allen has read the article and found it untrue and disgraceful. A thorough investigation was conducted by Court Appointed independent experts. The experts concluded there was no credible evidence of molestation, that dylan farrow had an inability to distinguish between fantasy and reality and dylan farrow had likely been coached by her mother mia farrow. One of the judges in the amanda knox case is coming under fire for talking about the case to italian newspapers. On thursday, knox and her former boyfriend were found guilty for a second time of murder. One of the judges said the verdicts were difficult and said he agreed knox had something to do with the murder and criticized sollecito for not testifying in his own defense. Attorneys say the comments show clear evidence of prejudice. Amanda knox lawyer says knox will continue fighting for her innocence. The rise and full of cultural groups in america. The author is the socalled tiger mom, amy chua and her husband. We will talk to both of them exclusively in a moment. But first their story. Authors amy chua and jeb say they know the answer. Both are yale law professors. You may remember she is no stranger to controversy. They created a firestorm with battle hymn of the tiger mother. Strict rules for raising successful children. And now shes back. Chua and rubenfeld say some groups do better than others. The triple package, superiority complex, a deepseated belief in its exceptionalism. In security, a personal feeling that you or what youve done is not good enough. And impulse control. Some groups that succeed, according to the authors, cubans, nigerians, jews, mormons, lebanese. Chua is chinese american, rubenfeld jewish. Some call it race trolling. People attempting to say this group is better than this or that group for cultural reasons. Its a different form of racism. Good morning to both of you. Good morning. Lets start right there. This book makes an argument there are three cultural at any rates. If you have them, you will be more successful. Is that racist . Thats the allegation being heard. Any time you talk about groups, theres going to be sensitivity. You cant get around that. This is the polar opposite of racist. Africanamerican groups are outperforming the national average, white average. Hispanic groups outperforming the national average. Our whole book is written to prove what propels success has nothing to do with race. It comes down to three qualities open to anyone of any background. If you say some cultural groups have them and other cultural groups dont, doesnt that denigrate the other cultural groups . I think the focus on groups is what is making everybody so upset. Our book is about the underlying traits that trigger drive. Anyone of any group can have them. The groups change over time. The groups successful today wont be 20 years from now. We were all talking about the super bowl. When the winning quarter back was asked how did you get here . He invoked his late father. And he said my father said why not you . Even though youre only 5, 11. That captures the gist of our book. It could be you. You need to strive and prove yourself. I think one of the things thats disturbing is one of the less talked about parts of your theory, which is the longer these groups are in america, the more in decline they are. So it suggests the more you are assimilated into American Culture the more mediocre you become. Its fascinating. That is what punctures this of the model minority. One of the interesting findings that came up is asianamerican kids score better than other american kids, stop doing better in the third generation. Its not innate. Its something cultural. Our point is, hey, lets look at what theyre doing and see what we can learn from them. Went there yesterday, there it is right there. Al, i will tell you, you know where the whole foods is . Its at home. Buy what you need there. Oh. We looked around, and although its huge and theyve got a lot of things, i think you might want to bring some of your favorite items from home because we didnt do all that way. How about vodka . Did they have vodka . That is basically what our cart was filled with, wine and vodka and bottled water. Did okay there. That was all right. Meanwhile, can i tell you something . We want to give a gold medal, best sport of the day is nicole, shes competing here in sochi. And here with her family. Her husband, her daughter lacy and her son. Ive talked to a lot of athletes who say they dont like traveling with their family because they only want to concentrate on their competition. But for me, its easier for me to compete down the track while i have these little distractions going on around me. It helps me focus and give my best with my family here by my side. Youve had a great run up to these Olympic Games. What are your expectations . Honestly, my expectations are to come back here, im looking at this medal stand over here and i plan to see it. I couldnt even buy a ticket for myself because i would love to go. But it was so important for me to just have her go. And the reaction just made it all worth it. Being a single mom and going through a lot of changes financially, emotionally, physically. You know, moving all the time. It was its been rough our whole lives, but shes never ever stopped. How does it feel hearing your daughters describe you in this way and talk about you in this way . Its surreal. It is surreal because theyre my shining stars. Theyre my great investment. Hes now an analyst for nbcs football night in america. And his wife lauren has been by his side for good times and bad for over 30 years. And they wrote a new book uncommon marriage. Tony and lauren. Good morning to you. Good morning. Not talking super bowl just yet here this morning. But i was struck by your story. 31 years later how you two are still together. Youve raised nine kids together. The book is called uncommon marriage. What do you think it is that keeps you two together through it all . Youve had good times and bad. Well, two things, natalie, number one is commitment. Being determined to Stay Together no matter what. And number two, putting christ in the center of our life. Thats kind of what the book is all about. Yeah. Theres a lot of faith in the book, as well. Youve had to keep the faith many times. I know, lauren, when you first met this guy, you were introduced by your pastor. And you werent so sure about him. Here he was, football, pro footballer, thinking at the time, i think, kind of not your kind of guy, right . I wasnt excited about a jock and raising a family with three brothers that were definitely jocks. I thought, ill pass on this guy. And, you know, see what else there is out there. You did have your differences in the beginning. What were some of those differences . And having to sort of bring you together . Lauren, you first. Just different personalities. Im more energetic and outgoing and laid back. But we found over time that spending time together, we actually complemented each other. And thats what we found over the years, god does put you together. And when you have those differences, its not like, oh, well, this is terrible. Ends up making the marriage better because you get the best of both worlds. You really get kind of both sides of this. And lauren, i know, for you, the years that tony spent as a football coach were not easy years. Youre talking about moves, pittsburgh, kansas city, minnesota, tampa, indianapolis, you struggled with this lifestyle and you write about that. Tell me about those years. It definitely was challenging. I was raising the children on my own. And i felt i had all the responsibilities of taking care of the households. So it can be challenging. But we learned to Work Together on that. And weve stressed communicating and so it was important that we talked on the phone. And he knew what was going on at home. And i also knew what was going on at work. I was involved in his life, as well, to be supportive and understanding. And tony, also, a difficult time in your lives when you experienced the loss of your son jamie who committed suicide in 2005. And you wrote about this. You both write about it in this book very candidly and its very emotional, obviously, experience you had. I know you wanted to help other people by talking about the grief you felt. And grief is one of the things that can split couples. And you do grieve differently. But i think the lord allowed us to go through it so we could help other people. And part of the process was learning that you can make it through if you draw closer together. And i know, lauren, you both feel that writing this book that you have you really feel that you have a story to tell. That you hope will help others. What is the message you wanted to share . Definitely the message is that we have to communicate with one another. We need to make sure that were talking on a daily basis. And otherwise, you can grow apart. He can get involved in his career and i can get involved in the children and whatever im doing. And before you know, it, were leading separate lives. Its very important to stay in touch. What did you think of that game last night . Ive got to ask you on that note. Well, i should have known because i was a defensive coach and defense does win championships, but i was hoping for our man peyton, but seattle played great. It was a good game all around. How do you feel about that . Im really confident. Three great flights coming in. Ive got three incredible athletes behind for the push and im four years more experience. And, you know, having that experience and being prepared, takes a lot of that pressure off. The mountains are just behind you guys over there. Thats where the venues are. Talk to me about the track. How different are tracks all around the world . Every track in the world is different. You know, the average 14 to 20 curves about a mile long, each track is different. The drivers have to prepare different as well as the push athletes. How much time do you get to prepare on this track at sochi before the actual competition begins . I think weve had 36 runs so far. So we get thats over the course of what period of time . Maybe last four years. Four years . 36 trips. Weve got four more, probably saturday and then its time to roll. Yeah. And there are people obviously that are going to watch this, steve, theyre going to say this is mind boggling to watch, the speeds at some tracks get over 90 miles an hour. Here, its about 85 miles an hour. For people who will never get the chance to sit in the bobsled as it hurritles down, compare i to something. Id say its like the fastest, craziest roller coaster you could ever find in an amusement park. No seat belts. No seat belts, no padding, couple of handles and fiberglass. There are times, and some of you know about this, that you end up how shall i say it . Not upright on the course. Yep. Trying to avoid the word crash. What is a crash like . Its tough. Youre out of control. And im still watching. So i can see the corner still coming at me at 85 miles an hour, but theres nothing i can do about it. Its a little frustrating. Theyre not watching the start with it. It burns kind of. It burns like ice yeah. Friction. The worlds worst why are we talking about it . I dont know. Stop it. Terrible idea. It was only because i was there with my kids and nieces and nephew. I made asian wings and some ribs. We had a good time. And ive got to tell you, my nieces and nephews are in their 20s. Theyre millennials. And they were like, bruno mars is the halftime show. And i said just you wait. And everybodys talking about it. And man, did he blow it out. Check this out. Locked out of heaven for too long when i see your face theres not a thing i would change youre amazing just the way you are that was just unbelievable. You know, weve had him here for our concert series. And he blew us all away the first time we saw him perform here. So we were all predicting hes going to be incredible. But, you see him there. Its i think, beyond expectations. And with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, worked out to be a good combination. I was a little skeptical, but that worked out perfectly. And how did the boys like their first super bowl . They were so thrilled. Luke, the whole time kept going, the beast the beast marshawn lynch, and it was amazing. I have to say, you know, my kids dont usually get into football so much, but like being there, i think they really started to understand the game. And luke was like, wait a minute, dad, why do they get a penalty . Thats not fair they get a penalty. He got really invested the whole time. What about the commute . I understand you couldnt drive to the stadium. No, we didnt drive. We took mass transit along with the 80,000 or so people who went to the game. Oh. And going there, apparently, was a major nightmare for a lot of people. I think we got lucky because we left the house a little bit later. We got there about 5 00 p. M. But there were reports of people passing out at some points because there was a swarm of people all around the same time around 2 00 p. M. Yesterday. New Jersey Transit said they set a new record yesterday evening. But they had 28,000 customers going through the transfer station. What would it normally take to get home if you were driving . I live so close, seven miles from my house. I could be home in 10, 15 minutes, but with the train situation, you had to take one train to then take the other train and the trains would sit on the tracks for like 30 minutes be theyd leave. Took two hours to get home. Well worth it, though. Not complaining. The one thing you dont get to see in the stadium is the commercials. You see some. Did you . They did show some of the bigger commercials. Doritos and some of the sponsors, pepsi, couple of commercials. Verizon had commercials, as well. What was your favorite . I think the one i didnt see ahead of time was the volkswagen commercial, the angel gets their wings. Take a look. 100,000 miles. So . Its a big deal. The first thing you see, the credentials, walk out the front door and here you are at the winter Olympic Games looking at a pair of palm trees. I think i got a shot of that i posted to twitter yesterday. This is, at the end of the day, a coastal town. Its a beach town where people come in the summer. The black sea a couple of hundred yards the other side of me. And you see behind me, you have the mountains. Its a mix of sea and beautiful snowcapped mountains where the skiing will take place up there. Im standing right now in olympic park. The first of its kind for a winter games where you have everything within walking distance. The hockey arena is here. Theres curling, speed skating, the big stadium where the opening and closing ceremonies will take place are right there. And its all, guys, about a driver away from each other. Its really cool, really accessible, really workable for people who dont even know where we are to begin with. Sochi is in the southwest part of russia. Its down on the black sea. The climate is more like the southeast of the united states. But its about 850 miles south of moscow. If you look at a map of russia, it looks pretty close, the truth is, russia is so vast, theyre still 850 miles apart. Its about the distance from new york to jacksonville to orient yourself just a little bit. So were on the ground, were paving the way for you guys. Im starting to learn the language. And you can see right now, this is the west village down in lower manhattan, and it is this time about three hours ago, the streets were wet, the snow is coming down about 1 to 2 inches per hour. Winter storm warnings, Winter Weather advisories from kentucky all the way to new england. Snowfall amounts generally about 3 to 6 inches of snow. However, we do have heavier amounts throughout new york and new jersey on into connecticut. Then the second winter storm, this would be mika, thats what were calling it at the Weather Channel. Winter weather advisories, they spread all the way across the midwest. Storm gets itself together. Snow in the rockies and then into the plains, in the upper midwest as this thing pushes up. And snowfall amounts, talking generally 6 to 9 inches. However, we could be seeing anywhere from 6 to 9 inches of snow to a foot and a half into central pennsylvania, new york, right around 3 to 6 inches. Starting today, google is providing a private Ferry Service for its employees from the harbor bay terminal in alameda. The Water Emergency Transportation Authority says it doesnt expect this fiveday tril to impact riders or parking. Google, in fact, will be providing off site parking. They will not be allowed to park in the harbor bay area lot. We warned you it was going to be cold out there. And temperatures are only going to climb by an additional five to eight degrees. San francisco is still in the upper 40s, even with complete sunshine overhead. Youll notice our camera is shaking a little bit. Winds will pick up as we head throughout the day today. I dont know where the heck they heard about the storm, i guess. They were landing and our dog thats what lola does, she goes out and gets them off the lawn, well, i cant believe the flutter of wings. And the amount of turdlets that wept flying when the geese went flying in somebody elses yard. Well, lola decided to the dogs wanted to roll around in it, half an hour before everybody is coming. You think you have trouble. I was early. Hoda you knew i was in trouble too. You had a look. I was like youre not having it. Were not ready. Regis was there. Regis was give you quite the time. He was. But he there is regis and joy. He thought it was video. I was like stop talking. It is a picture. Then he said, ive got to give you something and you must show it on the air. I go, what . I was walking my dog and fell down on the ice a couple of weeks ago. And you already know that that day is going to be crummy. You want to say, really . Is that the way we start. You cant unring the bell. Sometimes bad things keep happening. Thats what happened. I know. There is always somebody that wins and somebody that loses, it is hard for people that are diehard fans to keep things in perspective. But our dave won the pool around here. I forgot to give my 100 bucks. And then they said, you left, you forgot they had to put somebody else in the pool. You know who they put in . Dave. And dave won 400 bucks. Davie, good for you. Were happy for all you winners out there. Seattle did really, really well. Im happy for them. First time they won the super bowl. Just great. Because you know what, spread the wealth a little bit. Turned on the news, caught up on whats going on and to find out that Philip Seymour hoffman had been found on his bathroom floor in his apartment in the west village and gone. Couldnt resuscitate him. They are alleging because there is no tomology reports. The autopsy is coming and a lot of papers are reporting there were needles and drugles found. I was surprised he was 46. I didnt realize i feel like hes been around for a long time, so many different movies. Such a character movie. He would never do anything to change his face to look younger. He was all about the roles he would play so he could disappear into them. I think he struggled with addiction since his early 20s. So that takes a huge toll on you. To find i sort of vaguely knew he had children. I wasnt sure. But to come to find out he had three kids, all young. Very private guy. Right. And he was he had a long time girlfriend, i guess. Also alleging they had recently broken up and dont know if that what sent him into a tail spin. But, you know what, look at the how many oscars, won the oscar for capote, nominated many times, revered. I think he won a tony maybe or was nominated for his work en broadway. Hes he was a magnificent talent. But by all accounts loved his kids. Pictures of him with his kids out and around. So many people think if they could just get fame, if they could just get money, just get that kind of respect, but it is not about that. He was battling demons through a lot of his life. We send our love to his family. Definitely. For the game, you were watching the game, people watched for the commercials. One thing was interesting. Joe namath came out. So wild. A mother and her boyfriend are behind bars in connection with the killing and Sexual Assault of the mothers 3yearold daughter. 23yearold sarah kruger and her boyfriend ryan warner were arrested yesterday after being on the run for a day. Authorities say they found the young girl dead inside an apartment in napa on saturday. An 18yearold charged with charging a san jose state student to death could enter a plea in court today. Prosecutors say he stabbed 22yearold richard fan during a Birthday Party last weekend. Witnesses say fan was killed while trying to break up a fight. What if it was your child . She really wants to waken hollywood to the fact she feels, she believes this man molested her as she was a young child. Her brother, he went on twitter and defended his sister. Hes a biological child of woody allen and mia farrow and said they put the part where before or after annie hall, talking about the Golden Globes awards. When he was honored. First of all, you know, why would she say certain theyre saying mia put her up to it. No child wants to talk about those kinds of things. 20 years later. It is the most painful thing in their lives. Why do they want to expose it, talk about it. She changed her name. She tried to move on. She lives in connecticut under a different name, but for whatever reason, this this part of her life is still haunting her. We had a statement from woody allens publicist. He said, mr. Allen read the article and found it untrue and disgraceful and he will be responding very soon. And it goes on. There was an investigation the time, no charges were brought. They did find they did think something happened, they just couldnt prove something had happened. 7 years old, too fragile to testify at that time. And now the statute of limitations exactly. A little bit about Philip Seymour hoffman. We covered him, but what do we know . The autopsy is taking place today at his west village apartment. We dont know a whole lot. We know there were bags of what is suspected to be heroin found in his apartment, eight bags of this substance. Well find out more after the toxicology reports come out. It is shocking. Everyone in hollywood is mourning, grieving, from tom hanks to different costars he had in various films and he was a character actor. Beloved by all of his followers. And it is still a shock to many. People in the west village were talking yesterday to nbc news and saying he was a family man, three kids in Elementary School and he took the kids to school. He rode around on a bike with new york yankees hat on. He did not want the celebrity fans and the paparazzi following him around. It is shocking to know he was even battling these addictions still at this point of his career. Wasnt in the tabloids, never saw him in rehab a year ago and battled early on in his career. My kids learned how to do it in grade school, when they were young. Cody got up about two months ago, man was choking to death, went right over and he saved him. Heimlich. All those years before. It is empowering, thats for sure. It sounds weird, sometimes youre not sure if cpr is what the person needs. How do you know . You want to begin if you see somebody that falls and collapses you want to make certain they are unresponsive. Make certain theyre unresponsive. So what do you do . We train to use your personal protective equipment. If you dont have it, dont worry about it. But if you see someone down, tap them on the should and shout, are you okay . Are you okay . Okay. If there is no response, have someone call 911. You want emergency help as soon as you can. Then you open the air way and check for breathing. Youre looking toward the feet, looking for the rise and fall of the chest, listening for air to escape or feeling breath on your cheek. If you dont have any of those signs, do a quick look for severe bleeding and then start cpr. Where do you put your the heel of your hand. The heel of the hand in the center of the chest on the breastbone. On the breastbone. Push hard and push fast. Full cpr includes 30 compressions and two breaths, cycles of that. 30 compressions . Thats right. At a rate of about 100 beats a minute. And that actually there is music that a lot of people understand, stayin alive. The beat of that is equal. One and two and three and four and five and six and seven and eight and nine and 10, and 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30. What are you doing . Two breaths. What are you putting on his mouth . Breathing barrier, personal protective equipment i talked to you about, that is just to help prevent disease transmission. What if you dont have that . You take a chance . Absolutely. A lot of first aid kits have these. If they have them, we recommend you use them. If you dont, dont worry about it. The other thing we have is compressions only cpr, someone untrained or unwilling to perform the rescue breath, keep doing the chest compression. And do it until somebody comes. Keep doing this until somebody who is trained comes along and can take over for you. And until the scene becomes unsafe, or until an aed arrives and is able to use the aed the minute you get it. You did mention if you see bleeding, though, if you do see bleeding, should you not do the not attempt anything . No, you still want to get help, but also want to just deal with what is the most significant thing at the time. If there is severe bleeding, perhaps somebody else can help you try to suppress the bleeding by applying pressure. Show us with the little babies. With the little baby, there are a few changes. That is you use your two fingers and then you put it in the center of the chest. And youre going to, again, do about 100 beats a minute. But when i did the breaths on the adult, i tilted, i pinched the nose and put my mouth around the victims mouth. When im worki ining on a baby, put your mouth around their nose and mouth. Because theyre so little. Pull it back . 100 compressions. Tapping them, making certain it is okay. Look, listen and feel. And remember, call 911, get help on the way. And then you give two breaths. Two . Uhhuh. Okay. And then put your fingers in the center of the chest, 30 beats a minute. Shes back with a new book she authored with her husband, jed rub rubinfeld called the triple package, explaining the rise and fall of cultural groups in america. Theyre smart people. We like them. Were kind of intimidated. Very nice to have you both here. This firestorm, not the general way of raising kids these days but iyou on a lot of stuff. Thank you. You call it the triple package. You have three traits you think are underscore what makes someone successful. What are those three . Theyre actually seem like theyre contradictory, but thats what gives them their potency. The first is a sense of exceptionality, that youre special. That can come from many sources, like an innate talent or a parent that instills that sense of youre special. The second quality is almost the opposite, a sense of insecurity, that you need to prove yourself, that what you have done isnt quite enough yet. And final is impulse control, which is strictness, discipline, ability to resist temptation. What makes this controversial is you broke it down into, i guess, edge nikz or cultural groups you say some are more likely to succeed than others. Yeah, but, you know, the book is about individuals, not groups. And there are many, many individuals not from the groups were talking about who have all these qualities, have all these triple package qualities. President obama is a great example. Justice sonia sotomayor, another terrific example. These are groups you identified and studied . But we want to say there are way more than eight groups. Of course. In the book we say there is literally dozens of groups outperforming the national average. Egyptian american i hoping we were in the pool. Why not . Is that because of the way they have been raised . I have an asian driver, a chinese man with me for 30 years, i say why are all the everybody says that. It is this high expectation idea, which what do you mean by superiority and insecurity . Thats a high expectation. You can be the top, you know, thats how much we believe in you. Youve got it in you to be it. And now youve got to be it. If youre not quite good enough just now, now you have to work hard. Seems like youre if the child of an immigrant, you have some of that. My parents are very strict and expected things. You think as it waters down as it goes down. Does anyone sort of wind up in the same pool as one of the most interesting things we found in the course of our research, you know that asianamerican kids, famously score higher, better grades. It turns out in the third generation, no difference whatsoever between very much not innate. Not biological. It is culture. It is working hard. And our question is how are they doing it . Lets look at that. Everybody feels entitled. I should be able to get into harvard. Where is my choice . They havent done the work. Thats why the term insecurity is a little awkward. But thats in a way, we mean the idea, i can improve, i need to work harder. Better tomorrow than exactly. I can prove myself. But the other thing is, these groups who are joking about making the cut, but these groups change. This is jeds point, ten years from now, it could be different groups, ten years before, there were different groups. Fascinating. And you go, tiger mom. Thank you. And tiger dad.
