Reporter good morning to all of you guys. Im here in eliy where just yesterday Gabby Giffords did something truly extraordinary to mark the threeyear anniversary from the shootings in tucson. She went up in an airplane, and she took a sky dive. It was an incredibly exhilarating moment for her and for those of us close and getting to see it as she did it. We also talked to her about her recovery, how shes doing three years later. Well have some major milestones to tell you about, some things shes really accomplished. And matt, guys, a skill she 12i8 has thats incredible that shes still able to do even after suffering that terrible brain injury. So lots to bring you from here in arizona. Just looking at the footage, i get chills. Looking forward to continue well get back to you in just a little while. Todays top story, the firestorm brewing around Chris Christie. The focus is the George Washington bridge that connects new york and new jersey and some lane closureback in september that led to some major backups. Did governor christie know they were ordered as a form of political retribution by some of his top appointees . Nbcs Stephanie Gosk has the latest on this. Steph, fill us in. Reporter good morning, matt. Governor Chris Christie will be holding a News Conference in about an hour to address the bridge scandal personally. All of this may feel like a local story, but state politics, but everything the governor now does plays out on a national stage. I won. Reporter the question this morning is who will in christies words be held responsible . The governor promised to take action after emails and texts were released by state officials suggesting at least one of his highest ranking Staff Members deliberately orchestrated a nasty traffic mess. Shocking and outrageous. Reporter last september, two of three vital lanes leading to the George Washington bridge were suddenly and inexplicably closed in the town of fort lee, new jersey, just across the river from new york city. Several weeks earlier, christies deputy chief of staff, bridget ann kelly, emailed david wildstein. Time for some traffic problems in fort lee. Wildsteen, an appointee and High School Friend replied got it. For four days commuters, school buses, even rescue vehicles were snarled in traffic. They compromise public safety. Reporter Democratic Leaders accuse Christies Office of political retribution against the mayor of fort lee because he was unwilling to endorse christie, a republican, during the governors reelection campaign. Not something i ever anticipated, especially from the group under the direct control of the highest elected official in the state of new jersey. Reporter when local reporters first started asking questions, governor christie defended his office and said they had nothing to do with the traffic mess. Even sarcastically denying his own involvement. I worked the cones, actually, matt. Unbeknownst to everybody, i was the guy out there. Reporter since the news broke early wednesday, governor christie canceled his only public appearance and has only commented in a written statement. What ive seen today for the first time is unacceptable. Not only was i misled by a member of my staff, but this completely inappropriate and unsanctioned conduct was made without my knowledge. Barbara buono who lost to christie during the election is calling for a federal investigation into possible criminal wrongdoing. As for christies aide and the transportation official, neither has commented since the story broke. Matt . Stephanie gosk, stephanie, thank you very much. I want to bring in chuck todd, nbcs political director and of course our chief White House Correspondent as well. Chuck, good morning to you. Good morning, matt. In the last 24 hours, we have learned the answer to one very big question in this situation. Yes, those lane closures resulting in that massive traffic jam were some form of political retribution. The emails prove that. The other big question, did Chris Christie know about it, and did he order it . How will the answer to that question impact his political future . Well, i think, look, if he didnt know about it, its a survivable scandal. If he knew about it and was part of the decisionmaking process, then this is unrecoverable. He will no longer be taken as a serious president ial candidate. So that is the bottom line when it comes to this story. Hes got this press conference hes going to be holding later in a couple of hours. He needs to sit there and answer every question. I just spoke with john mccain, and i asked him for his advice to christie. He said if it takes you three hours to answer every question on this thing, sit there and do it and release everything. If you dont, the drip, drip, drip will end up becoming a bigger problem over time. You say one of the versions is survivable, the other isnt. Its not survivable if it turns out he lied to the press and public on this. The other one is no picnic either because it means he really didnt have managerial control over key members of his staff and his friends. You know, his best asset, when people talk up the idea of christie for president , they talk up a few things. Number one, he seems to be a nob. S. Guy, no nonsense. Two, hes willing to work in a bipartisan way. And three, he really knows how to control things. He looks like hes a ceo, a takecharge kind of guy. Well, the best defense for him right now is that he wasnt in charge of his own office. That there was some sort of culture of retribution that was in his office that he didnt know about. Thats his best defense, matt. Then that undermines one of his chief strengths at becoming for why some people think he is president ial material. And so the inability of looking like a solid manager of his own team i think is a big problem for him going forward. Again, recoverable if he really didnt know about it. And just in the 30 seconds i have left, christie is not your average politician. Hes thought of as a likely candidate for president in 2016. Hes the head of the republican governors association. So democrats are going to work this story for a while. Oh, not just democrats, matt. Ive been hearing from potential republican primary rivals. A lot of people are enjoying this on both sides of the aisle. Remember, hes got to get through there are a whole bunch of other republicans who think they should be the next nominee in 2016. So theyre stoking this fire, too. Hes got to deal with incoming. Welcome to the nfl, as they say. No question about it. The governor will face cameras and questions from members of the media in a little less than an hour. Lets turn to willie now whos got the latest headlines. Willie . Navy crewman after a Helicopter Crash off the coast of virginia. Two sailors were killed. Two others rescued. This is video from a norfolk hospital where the crew members were taken. The chopper went down about 18 miles east of cape henry during a training exercise. Its the Second Military Helicopter Crash in two days. The u. S. Air force chopper went down in england tuesday, killing all four airmen aboard. Former basketball star Dennis Rodman apologizing this morning for comments he made about kenneth bae, the american imprisoned in north korea. Well, in the cold and sober light of morning, rodman seems to have recognized that he simply went too far, even by his outrageous standards. In a written statement today, rodman said, i want to apologize. I take full responsibility. He said hed been drunk and stressed when he suggested in a barely intelligible cnn interview that kenneth bae must have done something wrong to be imprisoned in north korea. Kenneth bae did one thing, if you understand. I got it. If you understand what kenneth bae did. Reporter comments that shocked and appalled baes sister. This is not a game. You know, Dennis Rodman can play a basketball game, media game all he wants with his own life. But this is about a mans life, and thats on the line here. Her mother, father, brother, sister and grandparents killed. Are you the only survivor of your family . I am. She tells us, she watched as her mother was shot. I raised my hand to god like this but they didnt listen to me, she said, and finally they killed my mother. She said she couldnt stop crying when she woke up today. She drew a picture of the life shes lost, her momenhome, the in the river behind it, the flowers that were near the front door. Today she lives in camp on the ground of the mondastery with only one of the relatives she has left, her great aunt. Sheep said she has no words for the men who killed her family. Instead she put her hands together to offer a prayer, forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. And she added, bless me and keep me safe. One sad story among so many here. Meantime numerous reports that the president of the Central African republic could soon step done are yet unconfirmed but already thats increasing tensions here. Savannah . Reporter good morning to you, laura. Goodness, how things have changed since we first got here. They went from a onealarm fire, three, now up to a fivealarm fire. Weve seen backup from santa clara county. Now its expanded to other Fire Departments because they needed the water backup. When we arrived this was one warehouse that had become engulfed in flames. The tinder, the fire on the one warehouse spread to the others, and the main goal according to the firefighters to save the one remaining warehouse in the front. From what we hear the one that went up in flames was the vintage roof tile. However, that is still unconfirmed. Many people who work here also say these are vacant warehouses, however, there have been several explosions to the point where pg e came out and turned off the power. Right now there is a stay order from the Fire Department for sur surrounding homes. They will bring in the San Jose Police deept evacuate residents that are too close to the blaze. Their friendship first formed over adventure was later sealed in tragedy. Jamie was later shot in combat in afghanistan. Gabby visited her in the hospital and he came to see her after she was shot in tucson. Like many who know gabby well, he sees the jump as a way for her to express through actions what has become difficult since her brain injury to communicate in words. I think her spirit is pretty incredible and i think you can see it in spite of the way she can communicate now. I think its a limitation on us that we cant really grasp it. Its not really her limitation. Gabbys decision to jump surprised no one close to her, least of all her mother, gloria. Your daughter seems fearless. She is, ever sense she was a kid, got on a horse and jumped over jumps, climbed the grand can cron. Reporter is this a date, january 8th, thats been hard for you . This is a guy who has 19,000 jumps under his belt and there was a really funny moment before they went up where mark kelly, a navy captain and astronaut, was really almost interrogating matt saying did you pack the chute yourself . To make sure this precious cargo was taken care of. Did you have even a moment of temptation to jump out of that plane . If you had had a chute on also . Yes, exactly. You know, this is gabbys moment and it was incredible to watch her jump. But i will say she makes it look easy. I was more nervous when that door opened. She never i dont think her heart rate went up even an inch. She was just absolutely calm. And growing up in tucson and knowing gabby and just following what happened that day, that was the safe way where safeway where she was at that my mom shops at every week. I think shes inspired a lot of people. She certainly has. Thanks for sharing that with us, savannah. We appreciate it. Always colorful, miller has had personal highs a marriage to Beach Volleyball player morgan beck and lows, a public custody battle over his son with an ex. A knee injury kept him off the slopes all last year. Miller is back, 20 pounds lighter and on the heels of a secondplace finish at the world cup last month. Good to see you, matt. Bring me up to speed. You spent a year off the slopes, you had surgery. Youre 36, i dont want to harp on, that hows the recovery been . Its been good. I mean, you know, a knee injury like i had is a pretty slow process, aside from the fact that ive been rough on my body for my 17 or muss years of world cup career. So i mean, im healthy enough that im skiing as hard as i can, but i definitely feel my age. Ive been pushing pretty hard this season. I have work to do after taking last year away to heal the injury. Im trying to catch up to the young kids now. Youre one of those who have always skied for the love of it. The journey has been more important than the destination or medals for you. Having said that, have you set goals for yourself in sochi . Any time with the olympics, anyone knows anything outside of the medals is not why youre going there. Again, i think it is the performances im looking for. Maybe a little bit different expectations this year, just four years older, fifth olympics. My knee is still it is a liability. Probably a lot of things im dealing with are liabilities. I do go in with the intent to ski my best and try and inspire people. Yeah, medals are obviously the goal any time you go to the olympics. It has been an upanddown year, year and a half for you. Lets start with the great things you got married to morgan beck. Hows marriage changed you . Yeah. Keeps you busy for sure. Its great. Morgan is a great woman, and shes been able to travel around a lot. You know, being able to share the experiences of moving around the world and seeing great spots and training has been an absolute pleasure. And there have been difficult moments, as well, bode. You lost your brother suddenly back in april. He was a talented athlete as well. Tell me about him. You know, it was a shock. Really, he had his head injury in 2006, and i took time out after the 06 olympics that year. That was something overlooked about the 06 olympics. In that fall he was in a coma for a while. That affected my process of preparing for the olympics that year as well as all the other things we all know about. That was difficult through the olympics there. And i took time off to spend with him after the olympics. You know, really it really changed our relationship. And i think gave me a new appreciation for who he was. And that was i mean, it was a shock. Once he recovered from that injury, we sort of thought things were looking obviously good. He was snowboarding again. He had 100 recovery. The difficult part is any time its family or things that are personal, reading about them is one thing, read being them when theyre not true or when theyre completely spun in one direction and having to accept that and not fight a public battle because thats what the media thrives on. The back and forth, you said this, this is true, that was difficult because the view in the media it was obviously the judges who had all the information, came up with different decisions. And then the media did. And the reason is because the media only had a tiny portion of the story. Twisted on one side. You know, thats always tough. Ive dealt with that several times before. Whether it is family or when its about a small child who cant really defend themselves or has to deal with the repercussions in the future, thats a tough thing to deal with. I know were talking about your potential fifth Olympic Games in sochi. Youve also started to look beyond skiing after your career is over. One of your plans i like this a lot. It has to do with veterans. Yeah. Im going to be busy. Im always busy. But im one of the partners in a Company Called the Grilled Cheese company. And its a a pretty unique mobile food truck situation that we get veterans who are returning from their service either in iraq or wherever they served. And we give them an opportunity to franchise into this this Grilled Cheese truck company. And you know, it was really its tough to see when guys come back from serving their country like that and dont really have any career opportunities. They can barely, you know, find jobs to make minimum wage. And i think that was something that me and the other partners in the company felt like we had an opportunity to change. And you know, were now offering these turnkey opportunities to come in, use the skill set that theyve developed over the time in the service, and make make high six figures a year which i think is just a really cool american kind of thing to do. Its possible they are in the lower part of the warehouse. This is a fivealarm fire. It grew so big that the Fire Department actually had to call for assistance from outside agencies. Now, this fire we believe started on the right side of the screen, this is around 5 40 this morning. Then it jumped to this large structure. It has been burning through that ever since. This is what happened when the flames reached theh. 3uq  end o the building about an hour ago. The rest of the roof along with the wall collapsed, it caused an explosion. We believe it was a transformer. No one has been hurt so far. This fire is so large that as i mentioned its now been a fifth alarm. After all you have been through, what did it feel like to fly . Oh, wonderful sky, gorgeous mountains, blue skies. I like a lot. I like a lot. Its a lot of fun. A lot of fun. Was it peaceful . Peaceful. So peaceful. Its a big way of saying im alive. Im alive. Yes, im alive. Its hard to fathom three years ago this is where Gabby Giffords, a young congresswoman meeting with constituents on a state morning was gunned down at close range. Early reports suggested she had died. Few thought she would ever recover as well as she has. Is this a hard day, january 8th . Happy and sad. Well remember the people that were lost that day. Gabby had six of her constituents and, you know, Staff Members murdered, including 9yearold Christina Taylor green. Its a sad day but at the same time, you know, you got to move. Move on. Move on. And move ahead. Since the shooting giffords has seen remarkable recovery. Fuelled mainly by her relentless determination to heal. There have been tiny try iumphs and major milestones. She revealed she is now able to make small movements on her right side, once completely paralyzed. Can you show me a little bit . When gabby is laying down, she can take it from here to here. There was a time when you didnt no, no, no. You never give up. Yes. But for a woman once known for her passion and eloquent tongue, her toughest challenge is finding her words again. Is it frustrating times oh, awful. To find those words. Oh, awful. You know the times during the day you might have a hard time remembering the word . It happens to me all of us. Yeah, it happens to everybody. But you just cant find that right word. Thats what gabby has to live with but magnified. But this is a woman with ambitious goals. It was incredible to see. Even though you can see from that interview that gabby struggles to find your words, she understands everything. She has an incredible grip of everything that is going on around her and she maintains that spirit, that personality, that bubbliness and that sense of humor. Id like to start and ask you about safety. Are you worried . I was originally but im not now because i know theyre going to have security, fbi, state department security, different security. You got to go for it anyway. You cant keep those types of things coming into your head. You have to go for it and go. But as an athlete, are you worried to secure these games theyre going to have to make it look more like a military exercise than a spectacular athletic event . I think when it all gets down to it, its first and foremost about the athletes. I was thinking about this this morning. I was trying to go way back when i was one of those athletes and how many years of discipline and how hard they work every day. This could be their one moment in time. First represent our country and go for a medal. It an amazing moment for most of these athletes. Thats really what the olympics are about. As one of three openly gay americans, a lot being made about i antipropaganda laws and a lot of people in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and Transgender Community want a statement made in sochi russia to show the russian government. What is the appropriate statement . The appropriate statement . I think president obama showed it. Hes elected and selected three openly gay athletes, one very former athlete. And we step i think brian said when we step off the plane, we are part of america, we are what america looks like. So i think president obama has done an amazing job on promoting diversity and inclusion. He has been the alltime president for doing that and hes showing the russians, listen, everybody belongs in the United States of america. But you sparked conversation not long ago just at the end of last year when you said im paraphrasing time for some kind of a john carlos moment in sochi, referring to john carlos, who in mexico city along with tommy smith held up their fist as a protest for civil rights. Its really about human rights, civil rights, youre right. It looks to me like bode miller is already speaking out, the athletes are speaking out. So between those and others, who knows whats going to happen. I know that theres a rule, though, that they cannot i think its called rule 50, theyre not supposed to demonstrate or show any protesting. But if the media asks them a question, then they can respond accordingly is my understanding. Do you expect there to be an enormous outpouring of support and even subtle and quiet protests in sochi . You know, i dont know. I think thats whats exciting, its the unexpected. But when it gets down to the athletes, they have to concentrate on the task at hand. In a moment youll see why seven years later, im still trying to shine a light. Well, hello the first time i walked into st. Jude Childrens Hospital in memphis, i just remember the feeling that washed over me. I remember seeing a kids face and you think you think when you walk in a door youre going to be sad, which i appear to be now, but theres something when you walk in, you see these kids, suddenly you transform from sadness to joy. Is this thing hard to push around . No. I remember thinking whats happening . My heart was breaking and then five minutes later im with these kids who are kids, these kids who are playing, with parents who are cheering for them. What keeps you happy . My daddy. This year my goal is to help kids with cancer. As a cancer survivor myself, i know what it feels like as a grownup and i know how difficult, what a struggle it is. But what i cant even fathom even now is what it feels like to be a kid, to be one of these little boys or little girls, who is struggling with this grownup disease, something they shouldnt have to deal with. All you want to do is reach out and help and hug. What id love to do is make a huge, incredible music video, okay, for these kids with a song thats an anthem about being brave and being strong and have this wave, this music video go across the country, from hospital to hospital to hospital and you watch these kids and you think to yourself, like, i want to be there, i want to be part of that. I think it makes not only the kids feel good and the parents feel good but us at home watching feel good. It dawned on me after Hurricane Sandy so many people lost so much during that hurricane. We were blessed that we didnt lose our home, didnt lose loved ones, but we did lose that 250yearold tree that had been there long before we were a nation. So from that moment on, this whole past year has been about rebuilding. 2014 is going to be the year that my family celebrates 20 years in the same home. So i started chronicling pictures and things and hopefully by the end of the year well have a Coffee Table Book called good gifts, one year in the heart of home so we can encourage others to share recipes, build a life together thats going to last. I also want to help those that arent as blessed. We want the proceeds to go to the salvation army, which is an organization that i worked with for well over 20 years that does fabulous work all year round, not only taking care of peoples physical needs, the hunger and clothing and material things, but they serve the whole human being. I want this book to be a blessing to whoever picks it up. I want to put a smile on their face, i want to put a prayer of gratitude in their own souls for the blessings that they have in life. Wow. You werent kidding. We did save the best for last. We should point out it was a little bit weird looking at the piece i did in 2007 that, little boy nicholas sadly passed away. When you look at Something Like that, it reminds you how critical the need is. Now we have to roll up our sleeves. We have a lot of work to do in the coming year. The whole wave, i love that idea. And hopefully people watching for the viewers, our work will inspire them to do Something Big or small in their own communities to shine the light. Nice work, ladies. I know. To be honest with you, i dont care. I dont need any of our friends, our family members speculating. Kris jenner is the matriarch of the kardashian clan and the shows executive producer. Youre chuckling about that. Whats funny . Its just when you see it back because its all so real and our family is continuing to transition and change every single season. And then you said season nine and i thought season nine . When did that happen . Yeah. How did you tell the family about this recent split . We had been living apart. Bruce was living in malibu. I think to come out and say it formally at one time. I think you see a lot of whats going on in our lives, especially in the first episodes of season nine. Its kind of shocking. Howd they take it . What was the reaction . My family is amazing. Theres a lot of love, a lot of support. So i think all of different decisions we make individually, we always seem to come together as a family at the end of the day. What is your relationship with bruce . Were best friends. We talk all the time. And right now were happier than we were. Its life as normal except were living in two different houses. What about the pony tail . Are you managing that, too . I tried to manage. It needs its own manager. I think weve ganged up on him as a group. Kendall and kylie are on trying to get rid of it. Seems like you can be bothered by a lot of the rumors and speculation about your family, that youre very territorial with, rightfully so. Whats been specifically some things that youve heard that have bothered you, either coming from the media or from within your own family . I think that, you know we all have pretty tough skin. I think that after a while some things just get to you on a certain day. Theres nothing really specific. It just that theres so 90 of it is more or less b. S. Like when i read stuff, im like, oh, my goodness, this is like a creative writing assignment. But i think when you watch the show, it gives you a real clear picture. Embarking on a different path is clowe khloe, who recently split from lamar odom. She seems to be more optimistic. But she said i dont regret anything about my life and im very happy with who i am. How difficult is it to see your kid go through a tough time, even though shes now an adult . Its always tough when one of your kids goes through Something Like this. My heart is always with them 150 . And khloe, its tough what shes been going through but, you know, were just doing the best we can. On the flip side you got baby north and kanye in the family . Oh, my gosh. And they live with me. Hows that going . Its great. Its really exciting to watch her grow up and make all these changes. Shes almost 7 months old, so 6 1 2 months old. Nine seasons. G back now at 8 47 with the pictures behind the story. A violent altercation caught on camera been charles sachi and Nigella Lawson that led to the end of the couples decades long marriage. V vanity fair writer tracked down this story. Kevin, good morning. Good morning. Let me ask you, why are we suddenly so fascinated with this couple . Im not sure before those photographs a lot of people knew who nigella was and certainly charles sachi. What is it about them . This is one of the public and nasty divorces in recent history. Because of the photographs, the dissolution of the marriage was really played out before the public with him choking her, socalled sachi handshake. There is dispute from each side about whats actually happening in the photographs. Whats happening in those pictures . Nigella has told the court in london in a separate case that this came about because she looked at a baby walking past this very fancy restaurant and she said to her then husband she wanted to have a baby wanted to have grandchildren. He violently was opposed to that. He said, you have to give all your attention to me. But the photographer who i spoke to, by the way, said he was over there for an hour and didnt see any baby carriage, anyone with a baby. So that has to be called into question. Isnt it odd that were equivocating . Shouldnt it just be dont put your hands on your wife that way . Youre absolutely right. Charles friends told me they were talking about her daughter, from a previous marriage, and what her future should be, whether she could go to a university or stay in a magazine and have an internship. She went to the bathroom and came back unable to focus, he told his friends. Thats why he was grabbing her neck, which is unforgivable, and saying you have to listen to me, listen, focus. And you tracked down the paparazzo, john paul. What did he say . Having sat out there watching. He said it was a violent interaction. He said her head snapped back. He couldnt believe it. He just went to show up to take photographs of the domestic god el godess getting into a taxicab outside this fancy restaurant. So he does not think it was the baby, any reason for the altercation. It does feel like these photographs taken in june of last year were the last straw in their marriage. Theyd been together ten years. Afterwards, nigella moved out quickly. Interestingly enough, this happened on a sunday. They went home, paid the check, went home. They had a dinner party, entertained friends. The following sundays the photographs were published and she was out the door. I thought charles, pardon the pun, handed her an excuse to end the marriage. And they had a 70second divorce. Just walked away clean. One of the quickest divorces in london. She wanted nothing but her furniture. She moved out to a separate place with her two children from the previous marriage and spoke to charles maybe once and never spoke to charles daughter from a previous marriage ever again. If i was casting it for tv, the names that leap to mind are movie stars. That would be shortsighted probably. But you always think about that . Oh, sure. Are you always putting faces to characters . Sure. If it was penelope cruz, that would be really exciting. Chicago pd a spinoff of chicago fire. How do you know when a show or a series is right for spinoff . Is it all ratings driven . Its mostly ratings driven. Its also the structure of that show. We had two really great cops in chicago fire last year playing continuing arcs. John and jason were too good to pass up. It looked like too good an opportunity to build a show around them thats complementary. You have become your name has become almost synonymous with the kind of tv crime genre. What do you watch . Is that all you watch when youre sitting at home . Whats your guilty pleasure . My guilty pleasure since ive got little kids is, i think, the latest one is lego batman, which is just fabulous. The George Washington bridge is a vital lifeline into new jersey. For four days commuters, school buses and even rescue vehicles were snarled in traffic. Emails and texts released wednesday showed briget anne kelly had emailed a local transportation official, david wildstein, time for some traffic problems in fort lee and he replied got it. The New York Times redacted the names for the responses, person asay, is it bad that im smiling . Person b says no, and person say says theyre buono voters. Hes saying he doesnt know anything about it. At the same time, obviously when you put innocent people at risk in Something Like this and use power in a bad way, a lot of people are going to be talking about it. An apology now from new jersey governor Chris Christie after emails reveal a top aide played a role in massive traffic jams in fort lee, new jersey, on roads that lead to the George Washington bridge to punish a democratic mayor there. Gover in christie said he had no knowledge and was blindsided when news of the emails came out on wednesday. I am embarrassed and humiliated by the conduct of some of the people on my team. There is no doubt in my mind that the conduct they exhibited is completely unacceptable and showed a lack of respect for their appropriate role in government and for the people that were trusted to serve. Two pieces to what i want to talk about today. First is i believe that all of the people who were affected by this conduct deserve this apology. Governor christie said hes terminated the employment of the aide, his deputy chief of staff, bridget kelly. He said hes heartbroken at the betrayal of oh trust by her. He plans to apologize face to face today to the mayor and the people of fort lee. Governor christie saying hell continue to question his staff about other possible retribution saying he cant be sure there arent more out there. He doesnt believe there are but there could be and he will investigate personally. Meanwhile the u. S. Attorney will launch an investigation. Certain kinds are. This particular one over here is a compact fluorescent lightbulb. This one went out. This is l. E. D. This is a dimmable one. This is not. The color temperature of all of these have gotten a lot better. This technology is evolving. This particular one is an l. E. D. Bulb. These are dimmable. The cost is coming down. The problem is when these first came out, they were 50 a piece. These dimmable compact fluorescents, you can buy anywhere from 7 to 10, this is where it is going, the technology is getting better. How long will they last at that cost . The good quality bulbs, you get when you pay for, will last about six years as opposed to these that lasted about a year. This is the overflow. So it will constantly be running. Adjust it by this screw right in here to lower the water level, bring it down in the tank. With a screwdriver. This is a flush valve. This flapper, if it is not sealed properly, water can leak inside here. You can replace this for five bucks. So easy. And it is not a sterile, horrible hospital situation. There is colors, and theres balloons and theres toys. There is something about it that is uplifting and joyful. Well, hello the first time i walked into st. Jude Childrens Hospital in memphis, i just remember the feeling that washed over me. I remember seeing a kids face and you think you think when you walk in the door youre going to be sad, which i appear to be now, but there is something when you walk in, you see these kids and suddenly you transform from sadness to joy. Is this thing hard to push around . No. I remember thinking, like, whats happening . My heart was breaking and then five minutes later im with the kids who are kids. These kids who are playing. These kids with parents who were cheering for them. What keeps you happy . My daddy. You can tell they dont want you it look at them with sad eyes. They want to play. They want to sing. They want to be joyful. This year my goal is to help kids with cancer. As a cancer survivor myself, i know what it feels like as a grownup and i know how difficult and what a struggle it is. What i cant even fathom even now is what it feels like to be a kid, to be one of these little boys or little girls who is struggling with this grownup disease, something they shouldnt have to deal with. And all you want to do is reach out and help and hug. Im not a doctor. Im not a nurse. I feel like you want to do something, but what can i do . What i would love to do is make a huge incredible music video, okay, for these kids, with a song that is an anthem about being brave and being strong and have this way, this music video go across the country, from hospital to hospital to hospital and you watch these kids and think to yourself, like, i want to be there. I want to be part of that, and you and i think it makes not only the kids feel good, and their parents feel good, but us at home watching feel good. It dawned on me after Hurricane Sandy, so many people lost so much during that hurricane. We were blessed we didnt lose our home, didnt lose loved ones. But we did lose like 250yearold trees that had been there long before we were a nation. And so from that moment on, this whole past year has been about rebuilding, rebuilding what we had lost, and it turned out to be so much better. 2014 is going to be the year that my family celebrates 20 years in the same home. So i started chronicling pictures and things and hopefully by the end of the year we will have a Coffee Table Book that is called good gifts. One year in the heart of a home. So that we can encourage other people to make memories with their children, share recipes, build a life together thats going to last. I also want to help those people who arent as blessed. We want the proceeds to go to the salvation army, which is an organization i work with for well over 20 years that does fabulous work all year round. Not only taking care of peoples physical needs, hunger and clothing and material things, but they serve the whole human being. They understand how important a persons soul is and how important it is to minister to that person as well. I want this book to be a blessing to whoever picks it up. I want to put a smile on their face, i want to put a song in their throats. I want to person a prayer of gratitude in their own souls for the blessings that they have in life.
