Rockefeller plaza. Hello, everybody. By that i mean you. Its thirsty thursday. Its september 5th. We are delighted that youre here with us. Its a big, big day here at rockefeller plaza. Its okay. In case you were wondering. Its a semi kind of day. If you pick up People Magazine today, it says gorgeous at any age. People in their 20s, 30s, 40s and beyond. But, anyway, as i was just paging through. Its the beyond that was frightening. As i was paging through, who would it be okay. Ive got to show it. Oh, wow kathie lee gifford, shes 60, exclamation point, and gorgeous. Thats hot. Great photographer. Mary and laura did my makeup and air brushed me out the wazoo. Bambino is getting so much air time. He makes me happy so the pictures always come out really natural. You know what i want to thank more than anybody in the world for this . Dr. Patricia wexler. Greatest dermatologist in the world and one of the nicest, dearest people. Thats a great photo. Congratulations, missy. Congratulations to all the others that were beyond as well. Joy behar was 70. Shes at 70. And heidi klum at 40 and Vanessa Williams at 50. I was honored to be among them. That looks great. I feel sorry for the other ladies they put on the side. I shouldnt do that. So, you guys, first of all, i heard a rumor that you tried the fish recipe from yesterday. Oh, my gosh. This was the one with two ingredients. Two. Tailor made for hoda. Fish and ponzu sauce. Take the fish. Dunk ponzu sauce on it. Put it in the oven for 30 minutes at 350 and it tastes like butter. Im telling you, theres a dish called miso cod that is to die for that costs a fortune. It tastes just like that. Its hoda, i was impressed. Wasnt it so good . Do you have any other recipes . No, i dont. But we want you all to send in yours. If you have a recipe that has only three ingredients, three ingredients. You can add spices. Those dont count as ingredients. But three ingredients. Yours had no spices. No salt, no pepper. Dont do that either. Stop it. Just start wearing some sleeves, kathie lee. Wouldnt that transform everybodys lives if they could just have two ingredients and dinner . Yes. So send them to us. We want to see what they are. Go to our website or wherever you guys go when you send us things, klgandhoda. The u. S. Open. I bet youll be 50 next year and in that magazine. Am i 50 next year . You are right. I am 50 next year. All right. Thats depressing. So last night yes. One of my favorite things to do in new york is to go to the u. S. Open. If youve never been, its one of those things you go. Its tennis and blah, blah, blah. Take the number seven train from manhattan. It costs 2. 50. You swipe your thing. You get to the u. S. Open in flushing. The doors open and youre at the tennis center. But you have to pay to go to the u. S. Open. You can get tickets just to get in to walk around. Its a great experience. A lot of great shopping around there. The only couple of things you can do inexpensively in new york is get around. You can get from the city out to queens. But you cant eat or anything or buy anything. Dont think about eating. We saw rafael nadal, who was so cute. I love his passion. I mean, i love to watch federer because hes like a machine. But nadal is just spanish look at this picture closely because thats him. You see him back there . No. Bent over. Oh, now i see him. Thats him. I knew id can you believe how cute . You were down were they putting you on the big screen, hoda . We were down there at the bottom, thanks to this friend of mine named ken who is such a great, great, great guy. We had these great seats but it was a spectacular night. The matches werent great because they were blowouts, but it was still a lot of fun. Nadal smeared the guy that just beat federer. Whats weird about nadal. Before he serves every time he has a ritual. He does the exact same thing every single time. Its a little gross. Yeah. What does he do . He pulls out a wedgie out of his behind every time. Then he goes like this, this, ear, nose, ear, nose and then he every single time. Its the pull right after picking the wedgie, right on his nose . The wedgie first and everyone watches it. I suggest you do the wedgie last. All right. Weve got to talk about our phones. Yes. Yesterday iphone and now this. Kathie got an iphone yesterday and you took pictures. I am having such fun. Nothing is crazier than this thing. This is a samsung. Its a watch phone. Check it out. Here it is. Heres a watch. You have it, too. Yes. You can turn it on. It can be a regular watch. Im going to call this number. Watch what im going to do. So here it is. You are mouthing it. Dont do that. Okay. Look whats happening right now. I wonder if my phone is going to ring. Oh. Is it ringing . It is. Its ringing. Just hold on. Hold the phone. Oh. Theres a number. Is that my number . Hoda no, thats a california number. Who are you calling in california . No, thats not it. No, it dialed mine. Anyway. Here it is. So now, talk to me on this phone. Now youll be able to say hello to all your friends. Hello . Say hello. Hi, hodie. You have not been set up yet is what they are saying. Goodbye. Anyway, so what else it does you can slide your thing. Look at me knowing how to turn things off. Notifications. Its very cool. And lets say i wanted to take a picture of you. Look what i can do. Look. There. Okay. This thing, i dont know if you can get a shot of it. I know its a little weird. It acts as a i want some 8 by 10s of that. See, now its happening. People are calling my number. You have a lot of fans. Hello . That was from bridgeport. Who is calling . Did it really show my number . Oh, my god. Its doing it again. Hello . Who is this . Is this me . You know, you dont meet interesting people that way. That is funny. Look who oh, my gosh. Oh, hoda. Oh, my gosh. Hoda, you have a lot of fans and a couple of prisoners. Oh, no. And a lot of numbers. Do i have to change my number . Yes, you do. Oh, god. Oh, its happening. I have voice mails. 22. 23. Oh, no. Oh, my gosh. I think its funny. What just happened, honestly. I told you not to show the number. And what did you do . One, two its ringing again from jersey. Maybe its governor christie. I cant. My phone is now oh. Anyway, so get a samsung phone, okay . All right. We have to do ihoda. We have to do okay and we have to be bold. Go. I felt like we missed summer. So i decided i wanted it to be warm a little longer. I love nelly. I cannot believe my phone. Its still ringing. Enjoy a little nelly. Lets go. Its still ringing. Indiana. Who cares. Now she doesnt care. Hello . First of all, i just listened to cheyenne jacksons new cd. Hes got to come on and sing a song for you. He wrote all of them. Its called shes pretty. She lies. Anyway, its fantastic. It is . Yes. My phone wont stop ringing. Is it okay or not okay to give extravagant gifts to your kids . Whats the answer . Its your money. Youre the reason we reformulated one a day womens. A complete multivitamin that now has extra b vitamins, which help convert food to energy. Energy support for the things that matter. Thats one a day womens. Energy support for the things that matter. Could save you fifteen percent or more on car insurance. Yep, Everybody Knows that. Well, did you know the ancient pyramids were actually a mistake . Uhoh. Geico. Fifteen minutes could save you. Well, you know. Stay tuned. Hoda is going to also let everybody know what her address is. Can i tell you Something Real quick . My thing is overloaded and so far, thank you for all the texts. All 1,012. This sunday is an important day across america. National grandparents day celebrate something very special people. Many of us have fond memories of them or have learned some of lifes lessons from them, these days, 1 in 10 children actually live with their grandparents. In honor of grandparents everywhere, some of the people behind the scenes here shared their thoughts about their grandparents. Im crying already. That we think youll relate to. Lets take a look. My grandmother used to make us believe that money actually could grow on trees. She had a big oak tree in her backyard and shed plant quarters in it and dimes and nickels. When wed climb the tree wed think, this tree actually has money. Its growing money. And we would think it was a magical tree. A special memory i have with my grandmom is her love of cooking. Shed make mac and cheese, sweet potato pie, peach cobbler. It was all good. And even if i wasnt hungry, shed make me eat anyway. These are my grandparents hazel and joe reese. I miss my grandmother every single day, and my grandfather is the best person i know. I love him so much. What i love the most about my grandma is that shes always smiling. Has the best sense of humor. In a couple of different languages. She really has taught me a lot throughout my years. One of the most funniest memory i have of my grandmas is at my preschool graduation, one of them poured fruit punch over my head by accident. It was a huge scene, mortifying but ill always remember because we just laughed it off. My grandma has overcome incredible obstacles. Her strength has provided the foundation for who i am today. What i love most about my grandparents is its like having three more jewish mothers but they never say no. They are always down for anything. Probably the thing that makes my grandpa the most special is his spirit. He is turning 85 this year. He has more energy than i do. He has been through so much and still goes at each day headon trying to make the most of it. Wow. My god, that was beautiful. I am so glad my kids still have my mom as the last grandparent left. I think. A little extra curb appeal. After your local news. And Matthew Barnett coming up. We are back. I am here with the most popular woman in america. More of today on this thirsty thursday. We keep facetiming people. You want to sell your home or impress the rest of the block. The first thing people notice about your house is curb appeal. We took some of the pictures you showed us showing the outside of your home. Barbara corcoran took those homes and gave them a face lift. It doesnt take a lot, right . It doesnt take a lot. It just takes an eye for what you should change and what you should leave alone. You started with denises house. This is a landscaping issue. Tell us about the before shot and what you think. The main problem is the landscaping. Those little annoying bushes with the mounds of dirt with the mulch on top have to go. First thing we did is took out those two bushes and the mounds. Eliminated the hanging plants. Everybody hates them . Unless they are in pristine condition and they are beautiful. Im sorry, still terrible unless they are on the back deck. Dont agree with her but what am i going to do . We also widened the path leading to the front door. Continued the grass right under the tree that we put inside or to the left now which is now a big tall birch tree. Next we painted the garage door to match the light beige siding on the second floor. Otherwise that house looks dirty because of the white door. It doesnt contrast well. Paint the main door teal, pressure wash the driveway. Why teal . Teal will bring it forward. Red would look hokie. Another flower on the other side. What did we run out of money . And a little brick in that you are talking to kathie lee. Come on, barbara. Spend a little money. Its neat and clean. Youd want to go into that house. People dont like the front of your house theyll not have a look inside. In so heres cheryls before. A little victorian. Adorable. It is shabby and has absolutely no contrast. It is too white. We painted the front door red. Thats victorian. It says welcome home. We freshened up the white paint. We pressure washed it. 160 to do it yourself at 900 professionally. We painted the wooden stairs and wooden base dark gray so they match. The stair railings white. We added dark gray shutters to the two bottom windows and two upper right. What about window boxes . We moved that little urn that hokey and popped some flowers in and thats where it belongs. Some window boxes. Im sorry. What is this segment turning into . And that whole house top to finish, 910 to 2940, if you have the next guy do it. A house that will sell. Lets go to elizabeths house. The problem is it has a great advantage of having mature trees and being set back. The down side to that is it reads as dark. If you get inside that house it feels dark. Fool the eye. Steam clean the roof because its half of the surface. And buyers think if a roof is dirty that you have a leaky roof which is not the case. Steam clean that. Resurface and smooth that driveway. It looks like its in the back country. What a difference that makes. Edge it. Resurface. Its very, very expensive. Its not expensive. That whole resurfacing if you have it done is less than 1500. Not a big deal. But what an important difference. And, of course, putting those gray bricks, a little extra on the edge but it says im an impressive house. And we moved the couple of bushes away from the windows to add light. And thats a pretty house. The whole job done for 2600 to 8,020. Barbara, thank you for all of that. I still would have liked a couple of window boxes, but thats just me. Nobody takes her on. Look at why. Look at why. Were scared. An attitude problem but thats another segment. All righty then. The most memorable tv ads of the last ten years. Find out which ones scored coming up after this. I remember that one. Eating lunch isnt exactly hard work. So why do you feel so tired afterward . Instead of refueled and focused, youre foggy and sluggish. Its that 2 30 feeling again. So how do you get your clear, alert feeling back . Have a coffee. Then another . Do this instead. Take one 5hour energy. In minutes foggy and sluggish is gone. Hello clear and alert. 5hour energy. Take it after lunch. Be clear and alert for hours. Lauras being healthy and chewing her multivitamin. With one a day vitacraves for women. Its a greattasting gummy multivitamin designed for women with more calcium and vitamin d. Its gummies for grownups. Oneaday vitacraves for women. Its gummies for grownups. Could save you fifteen percent or more on car insurance. Yep, Everybody Knows that. Well, did you know some owls arent that wise . Dont forget im having brunch with meghan tomorrow. Who . Meghan, my coworker. Who . Seriously . Youve met her like three times. Who . sighs geico. Fifteen minutes could save you. Well, you know. All right. Are you one of those people who tunes into the super bowl just for the commercials . Everybody loves a good tv ad whether it makes us laugh or feel nostalgic. To celebrate the tenth anniversary of Advertising Week were going to look at the most controversial commercials of the last decade. Matt miller is the president and ceo of independent commercial producers. Nice to see you. So you went through all the commercials and sort of selected the ones that really hit a note with us. We pulled them out of some of the many award shows that the Advertising Industry has every year. We like to pat ourselves on the back. The cleos . This came from one done every year and for the last 20something years. It looks a little bit more at the artistic side of it but it also the most influential and in terms of the impact they have. Okay. Lets get started. This is the bud light swear jar ad. This one was rejected by cbs. Went straight to the internet. Lets watch a little and tell us why. Every time someone swears you put a quarter in it. Who gets the money . I dont know. Well use it to buy something for the office like a case of bud light. [ bleep ] awesome. [ bleep ] bob. [ bleep ] jim. A white station wagon, please go [ bleep ] yourself. I am so proud of you [ bleep ]. Thats great. Thats funny. Genius. As you said, they knew this was going to be rejected but it was one of the first ads really meant to go viral. To go out on the internet and work that way. In fact, that year the emmys recognized that spot as a spot that never aired on tv as the primetime commercial of the year. Do you really see a bounce in sales when an ad like that runs . This is a massive hit for them. Exposure and also engagement. Thats where viral advertising comes in. Online advertising when people share it and i bet they started doing it in offices all over the place just for fun. Lets move on to the next one. The dos equis commercial which has the most interesting man in the world. His reputation is expanding faster than the universe. He once had an awkward moment just to see how it feels. He lives vicariously through himself. He is the most interesting man in the world. I dont always drink beer, but when i do, i prefer dos equis. Thats great. We love him, right . Hes become a great character and a continuing character is definitely a method used. You start to really relate to a person as the brand. And Advertising Week does something interesting. A walk of fame where the public can actually go on and vote for their favorite brand icons every year. And the public votes them and they get put on madison avenue right in the sidewalk and its a really fun way to engage the public. Is bill cosby there for cocacola all those years for jello . Its the brand, the characters. The madeup characters. Juan valdez is there. In colombia it became a holiday when juan valdez was voted into the Advertising Hall of fame. And the donkey got in, too. Not a lot happens for the donkey either. So the volkswagen ad, the little boy, which i think we teased coming in, was a favorite. Is this the darth vader one . Yeah. This one was adorable. Did this boost sales . This is an interesting game changer for ads. Volkswagen and deutch put this out before the game which was really the first time anyone did. And interestingly enough, i was on the show previewing the ads on friday. About 900,000 people had seen it online. But by the time the show was over, 4 Million People had seen it. It shows how broadcast and viral can Work Together as it strategically does. That little guy is a great actor, whoever he is. The ipod commercial of 2003. And the that was struggling before this. It was a game changer for the ipod. It had been out a couple of years. This was when they pushed the fact you dont need to have a mac in order to use the ipod. You can use it with a pc. And this blew the roof off of it. It was amazing it was just out then. We didnt have iphones, ipads and all the other technology. It was mobile. You could take it anywhere. It was the first time we really saw this segment. Thank you. We like you. Thanks for coming to see us. Thank you very much. How one man found meaning in his own life. And what hes hoping youll do just for one day. Its a great book. First these messages. Youre not made of money, so dont overpay for boat insurance. Geico, see how much you could save. You deserve a multivitamin that supports your efforts. Newly reformulated one a day mens has more of 10 key nutrients than centrum men under 50. Weve stepped it up. Newly reformulated one a day mens. As a preachers son, Matthew Barnett had a dream. He wanted to help the people who needed it the most and spread a message of hope. What he found was that by serving others he was really improving his own life. Now he wants you to join him for 24 hours. Matthew is author of gods dream for you which i read two weeks ago. And could not put it down. It is a phenomenal book. So good to see you. Hi, matthew. Good to be with you. Thank you. Tell us how this came about. Well, this event, because the dream center is a 24hour place. My pastor at church, based out of a hospital thats literally 24 7. Hundreds of homeless, runaway kids, trafficking victims. 50,000 people a month. They are being taken care of. Right there at that hospital building. 19 years. My dream is far different than anything i ever dreamed of. I thought id come to l. A. At 20 and do the typical, show up on sunday, deliver a message and go home. I didnt realize that that dream had to fail in order to find the dream i was meant to live for. And that was taking a sixhour walk around the park and seeing young boys up against police cars being arrested and seeing people that were homeless. And that night my dream changed through brokenness. You want people to serve for 24. What do you want people to do . I think there are a lot of people in the world who want to do something. They want to make a difference. They dont know what to do. The reason were doing that for 24 hours is to do something radical. For 24 hours, people are going to plug in for an hour, 30 minutes. If they are crazy theyll do 24 hours with us. Its going to be a really great event. A lot of people say, how i do find time to serve in my busy day. So impossible to do it. A lady came by. I said just give it 45 minutes. To our back to school giveaway. Well give away backpacks and just give it a try. I turned my head. Three hours later, she was still there. I said, why are you still there . Because i just found a way to make more time in my schedule. Thats great. When you are passionate about something it opens up the door. Thats what were trying to do. Were going to skid row. We have hot dog carts. Were going to give haircuts and hygiene project to people on venice beach. Were just going to get crazy for 24 hours. Plug in people all hours of the day. And just get radical in helping other people and serving because the greatest way to live life if you want to live life happy, spend your life living palms down. If you want to be happy, live your life with palms up, only christmas time and your birthday youll get that. If you 35 palms down theres a way to be happy 365 days a year. You have to come and hear Matthew Breach at Angeles Temple out in los angeles and visit this dream center. What they are doing, talk about radical. Theyve received all kinds of award from the city of los angeles because they are taking care of the unlovable of the discarded people, of the invisible people that every one of us in our own way have stepped over to get to wherever were going. Matthew, thats my favorite thing about you. He has a heart for hurting people like you cant imagine. And we are happy to say that as of october 17th, 18th and 19th, im going to be at Angeles Temple with matthew. We are going to be doing this concert version of scandalous. Three nights at Angeles Temple. You see why i like to partner with this guy . I do. Things happen when matthew is around. Watch your purse. Thanks, matthew. Love you buddy. The book is fantastic. Always something cooking with our friend giada. Shes got help. First, this is today on nbc. [ female announcer ] youve got finding time for what matters, down to a science. Youre the reason we reformulated one a day womens. A complete multivitamin that now has extra b vitamins, which help convert food to energy. Energy support for the things that matter. Thats one a day womens. It is time for cooking with giada. Yeah. Jeff Giada De Laurentiis is with us. Shes written several successful cookbooks. Now were getting a sense of her childrens books. The characters take trips all over the world. Today were stopping in paris for french goodies. And who is with us . Sophia, sophie and mary. They are out of control. How cute are you three. Bonjour, ladies. Do you guys speak any french . Yeah, a little. What do you say . Tell us. Bonjour. I love them. Bon appetit. What are we making . Crepes. So alfie and amelia are the brother and sister in this book. They go on these really fun adventures when their aunt cooks for them. And so in this particular adventure shes making them some crepes. They take a bite of a crepe and it transports them to paris. And all these adventures they have in paris. I thought it would be fun it make crepes. This is not a cookbook, obviously for kids but in the back of the book, which we dont have one. In the back of the book, theres two recipes in each book. Its laminated so the kids can make whatever alfie and amelia. And is your telephone number in this . I, unlike hoda, do not give out my phone number. Im a little bit more careful. So thats how they act. The kids can do them with their parents. So were making crepes. Which are not really working out so well because im talking as im doing it. Giada, doing a book for kids. They enjoy cooking. They enjoy cooking shows. I feel they are left out of that process. Not great. Thank you kathie lee. Yeah, usually with crepes you have to watch them and not talk and do other things. What i always say with crepes, i throw away the first batch anyway. The first two. After that, they become so beautiful, just like this. Look how light and airy. Its milk, eggs, flower, salt and sugar. I usually do it in the blender. Throw everything in the blender and go, boom, and you are done. Does your little jade love these . She does. Shes making mine with nutella and bananas. You can make them sweet and savory. I like how you wrapped this up. And then she wrapped it up like a burrito. You have to taste one, honey. And then nutella. Thats just how she likes it. Fold it like that or wrap it up that way. Sophia is making a savory one. Should i eat it like this . Yes, absolutely. And thanks for sharing with us. Thanks very much. I got one. Come down here, guys. Try this one. You want savory . Sophia over there picked greens. Broccoli and cheese. We have a great show tomorrow. We do . Plus, getting over your fear to change your life. And carter oosterhuis helps you prepare.
