And, wed love to have you take part in this ferrari challenge which has been going since 1992. And, i said great, but i was busy up until this year. So we sort of scheduled it in for this year. So, im taking part in like four or five races this season. Jimmy and, how fast do you go in these things . Eh, it depends. On that particular track going over that section, which is a a straightaway, thats laguna seca, you going about 150 miles an hour, i guess. [ cheers ] jimmy what is wrong with you . No, you cant do this. Uh. Jimmy you cant do this. Youre Michael Fassbender. We need you. Yeah, its um theyre really safe cars. I mean, you know, there are some incidents. Two guys did go to the hospital over the weekend. But theyre really safe. [ light laughter ] you know, there wasnt jimmy but, are you in with another person . And so the guys there, you know, giving me sort of information. Craig, my coach. And then, sort of, when we get to the race day, then im on my own. So, its actually nice. I thought at the beginning, i was like, god, dont leave me. Jimmy yeah, exactly, yeah. But, no, its quite nice to be in there on your own, so jimmy what did you learn . What was the whats the ultimate advice he give you . Oh, its just you know, lots of i guess, the one thing is vision. You dont think, youre sort of looking ahead of you, where youve just got to be looking way down the road and finding all the sort of, you know the sort of, in to the vanishing point and working your way back from there. A lot of the times, you know, id find myself just looking directly ahead at the apex, or where i need to go. But, youve always got to keep your eyes up. Jimmy yeah. Seems like a a simple sort of thing. But its yeah, that was a jimmy you dont think about that when you see these races, and theyre going around and around and around. And youre like, i could easily just zone out. Yeah. [ light laughter ] wel, i did, in the first race i kind of did. Jimmy right . If you go like yeah. Jimmy i did this like 499 times. Yeah, all right, whatever. Yeah, i mean, its sort of those guys, you know, it gets into the subconscious but the first race that i had, i did kind of, you know, zone out a a little bit. Its half an hour. And sort of, i think around 20minute mark i was jimmy how did you do . I didnt do too good in the first race. [ light laughter ] i came like third last. [ light laughter ] jimmy there you go. But then the race yesterday i came sixth in my class, so jimmy hey, not bad, dude. [ cheers and applause ] be safe, be safe, all right, man. But basically what youre doing is, covenant is the name of the ship. Thats right. Jimmy and youre go to a find a new planet to yeah, basically covenant is a new ship with colonists. So, you know, i think its like 3,000 colonists are heading out to origae6. And theres a technical difficulty in space. They get woken out of cryo sleep early and they come across another planet that seems to suit their needs and they go down and investigate. Jimmy whew. Which is a mistake. Jimmy yes. [ cheers and applause ] jimmy Jeffrey Tambor welcome. Welcome, back to our show. Thank you. Jimmy and we love having you here. Thank you. Jimmy i want to get to the book. But before we get into this, thank you for being the announcer oh my goodness, its my pleasure. Jimmy tonight, of the guests. That was a fantastic [ cheers and applause ] it brought back garry and the Larry Sanders show. And i got chills. As i was telling you. I went,oh my god. Its just, uh well, its my honor. Thank you. Jimmy when you got the role, did you does this come from something . Were you a voice over, guy . No, i had never done a a voiceover. But, alan zweibel i did a a failed audition with him. Jimmy i love, alan zweibel. [ light laughter ] and he said, he said, hey, youre terrible in this. But, i have a let me call a a friend of mine, Garry Shandling. And they have this role, hank kingsley. Who and this guy says, hey now all time. Jimmy yeah, absolutely. [ cheers ] and, so, and i met garry a a week later. Jimmy and how did you know garrys work from his standup, or . I only knew it from that show, its the Garry Shandling show. Jimmy oh, absolutely. And i said, whatever that guy is doing, i want to do that. It was so great. Hes the kindest of geniuses. You know, when we did that tribute to him, when i played did hank last time here. Jimmy yeah. He was so moved. He you know, he was crying and all that. Jimmy really . Yeah. Jimmy i miss him. I loved him. Me too. Jimmy he was one of the when was the last time you before he passed, we judd apatow and i, luckily had a wonderful lunch with him. He was great. Jimmy and did you just talk about the show . We he and i just went and sat like two old jewish people. [ light laughter ] out on the santa monica and we did that, yeah, it was good, wasnt it . Yeah, it was good and everything. He was great. He was wonderful. Jimmy wow. And i miss him. Jimmy yeah. You talk about him here in the book. I do. Jimmy are you anybody . Im assuming this is based on something . No. [ light laughter ] its actually weve only printed 10 copies and were almost all sold out. Jimmy almost. Is this one of the 10 copies . No, this is one of the 10. No, it comes out tomorrow. Jimmy this is exciting. My kid i wrote it for my kids because i was driving my daughter evie to flute class, and she looked at me, and shes 10 years old and she said, what is it you do again . [ light laughter ] and i said, i have to write something, so [ laughter ] i have to write a book. They think they describe to their teachers that i eat lunch for a living. [ laughter ] because they would come to the studio. Jimmy yeah. And they would eat lunch with me. Jimmy yeah. You see . Jimmy thats what you do for a living. So yeah, so he eats lunch. Yeah. [ laughter ] jimmy theyre great stories. Theyre funny stories. I want to talk about one of your teachers, jack. Mr. Cook. Jimmy jack cook. Yeah. Jimmy now, who was he to you . He was, at San Francisco state by the way, i went to college at San Francisco state for [ applause ] half a clap. [ laughter ] and my tuition was wait for it 48 a semester. [ cheers ] jimmy what . You cant go to starbucks for 48. [ laughter ] because theres a california system had you went for 48. Jimmy wow. And i had a great and jack cook was my teacher. He taught me about comedy. And he taught me he was a a good, good teacher. Jimmy theres some great lessons in here. That, you talk about jack, and how great. But theres one that is stuck in my head, which is, dont put a hat on a hat. Yeah, i added something one day in rehearsal. And he said, hey, come over here. And he said, you never put a a hat on a hat. And thats great piece of advice for comedy. I have no idea what it means. [ laughter ] but uh jimmy no, me neither, me neither. He was a great, great jimmy no, but i he goes, yeah, we get it. Youre wearing a hat. Youre wearing a hat. Jimmy you dont have to talk about it. Leave it alone. Youre jimmy yeah, dont put a hat on a hat. Right. Jimmy i love it. Absolutely. Jimmy you did a thing with your kids, to as a promotion. Yeah. Jimmy for the book. Its so cute. And theyre just asking you questions, or interviewing you. They interviewed me for the book. We did it in i lived upstate new york, or mid state new york. And we decided to do a little promo where they did sort of like the like your show. Jimmy yeah. They each had questions for me. And its the spirit of the book that did i say it comes out tomorrow .
