screwdriver. nbc bay area's bay area's monty francis is live in oakland with the story. >> this kind of shooting is very rare for a school district. in fact oakland unified says this is the first time ever one of its officers has been involved in a fatal shooting. now the shooting happened at about 9:15 last night near san joaquin miller park where officer were patrolling the area to make sure no one crashed the dance. where they came upon a parked honda on san joaquin miller road that was stolen. according to district officials, the 20-year-old man inside the car started fighting with one of the officers. >> he was being attacked with a deadly weapon. >> according to district officials, the 20-year-old man inside the car started fighting with one of the officers and pulled out a screwdriver and tried to stab the officer. that's when another officer fired his gun at the man, killing him. the officer who was in the attack was not hurt by the screwdriver bass he was wearing a protective vest. the school district has about a dozen police officers who work exclusively with the district. the district said sheer fully accredited and trained -- [ inaudible ] [ inaudible ] >> we apologize for the technical difficulties. now update on another officer-involved shooting. this time in san francisco, that left a woman barely alive. this happened around 7:00 last night when a daly city officer tried to pull a car over. instead of stopping, the woman driving sped up, crashed in a a nearby home and put the car in reverse and struck the officer. that's when the officer opened fire. daly police are not saying how many times the woman was hit. a man in the car at the time was arrested. the officer was not seriously hurt. authorities hope sonar will help in the search for fisherman who disappeared from his boat in the san joaquinen delta. 50-year-old harry lee went fishing alone yesterday alone. his boat was spotted around 2:00 in the afternoon. the coast guard searched yesterday and this morning, but didn't find any sign of lee, his family and law enforcement are holding out hope. >> we're holding out, we're going to stay positive and hope for the best. and you know, something will come up. good, positive. >> we take this very seriously. >> in the past -- we've had people that have gone overboard and then wounden living. so we still consider it a rescue mission at this point. >> the tonight the search is suspended, but authorities plan to go out tomorrow morning with sonar equipment. a statewide amber alert for 4-year-old juliani cardenas han downgraded do a local alert. it's focused on a delta canal near patterson, where a witness says he saw a silver kr go into the water. it fits the description of the alleged kidnapper. authorities say rodriguez was using his cell phone and atm card before the kidnapping. the sheriffs department will begin serving with divers on tuesday, saying at this point it's the only lead they have. the now-infamous carnival splendor cruise ship pulled into san francisco this morning, without any passengers on board. the splendor is the ship that lost power after a fire broke out on board in november. off the coast of baja. the ship was on its way to the mexican riviera, but had to be towed back to san diego. nearly 4500 passengers and crew spent an uncomfortable three days without working toilets, electricity or hot food. the ship is in san francisco to undergo repairs. at pier 20. carnival says they expect the splendor to be back in action by february 20th. thousands of people visited a home show in santa clara county this weekend and show organizers are cautiously optimistic that this is a sign of good things to come. the south bay home and garden show changed their mission from home improvement to home design. instead of filling the convention center with exhibits on home remodeling, they focused on creativity and comfort. people could check out the home entertainment centers, art and other less-pricey home improvements. >> a lot of these businesses depend on home equity and loans we have seen attrition, but there's a lot of good, high-end vendor who is are standing to do well again. show producers say they're slowly seeing the crowds come back after several years of dismal attendance. a team of bay area nonprofits got together to hand out thousands of bags of free groceries, the feed the city event of hayward brought together volunteers from the dream city bay area and feed the hungry organization. organizers say it's tough in times say those in need come in all walks of life? >> jumping off the charts, salinas, had a record high of 82 degrees. unbelievable for january. you might say these are the dog days of winter around the bay area. 65 around san francisco. in keep in mind the average high for this time of year should be closer to the mid 50s. so this is the equivalent of a january heat wave around the bay area. san jose earlier got up into the low 70s, right now, 66 degrees. a northwest wind at seven miles per hour. hazy skies and for now through the rest of opportunity, we'll be watching for a little bit of patchy fog. 60s around the south bay and santa clara. the temperatures around fair fnd, concord and livermore, drofing into the 50s. that's one of the changes we'll see into the work week. cooler air spilling back into the delta. leading to the winds turning offshore. for the north and east bay valleys, tomorrow's big weather stories, for half of the bay area, we'll be talking about a cooldown in temperatures, from livermore to fairfield and napa. it pushes over towards san rafael tomorrow. temperatures that have been in the 70s in some spots, north and east bay valley, tomorrow we'll see temperatures drop a little bit. upper 50s, low 60s as we get into your monday morning. and we could see some dense fog advisories, out towards the delta and contra costa counties, for monday, inland fog. cool start with 30s and 40s. forecast is still looking very dry by january standards. as you can see on the visible satellite view, not a whole lot happening. the radar view, bone dry and the storms arching off to the north here. this is really what we call a lock pattern. the ridge of high pressure anchored in the west. deep trough through the central plains. and for the bay area now, we're at ten dry days in a row and counting and very likely, we could see the number maybe jump up to 20 straight days of dry weather. so for tomorrow, parts of the south, they still have a chance to get some 70s. 60s and 70s for the south bay. for the north bay, we'll be seeing highs closer to the upper 50s, low 60s for tomorrow. storm track still way off to the north. high pressure locked in. we'll be dry. not only for your work week, but very likely through the end of the month. even into the start of february. so inland fog will be the story tonight it could get thick in spots for napa, concord and fairfield, 30s and 40s for lows tonight. south bay, we'll see temperatures tomorrow close to 70 degrees. upper 60s around san jose. los gatos, close to 70. the numbers toward the tri-valley and livermore, cooling down, thanks for the fog moving in from the east. fairfield and napa, close to 60. wouldn't be spreurprised to see upper 50s around solano county due to the fog. tomorrow highs mostly in the 60s. your seven-day forecast, you can can see the temperatures ramping up a little towards tuesday with a brief taste of i don't offsho, staying dry from now through about this time next weekend at least. >> lawrence joins us to talk about the super bowl. half the super bowl. >> half the super bowl is set, we know the nfc representative. they got it done today at a chilly soldier field in chicago. they'll play indoors on artificial turf. when this comes to super bowl sunday in arlington, texas. today the frozen tundra of sorts. one of our favorites, and a friend to nbc bay area sports is up for one of the area area's most coveted aids wards. plus them twoomen taking grand slam longer than ever before. rocket scientists! you gave us the space age... but your savings accounts are stuck in the stone age! earn more commodore with interestplus savings at capitalone.com. that's new school banking, baby!
