There is evidence that they were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive highly classified information. Careless but not criminal. The fbi reveals its findings of Hillary Clintons email investigation. How will the investigation impact her run for the white house. Political analyst joins us next to go over the short term and potential longterm impacts. Her emials. Former secrery of ste Hilry Clinton w photographed so ofteneviing extremely careless in handling her emails. Former secretary of state Hillary Clinton photographed often reviewing emails. Tonight she hears what federal prosecutors have to say about it. Today the fbi announced the results of the investigation. Harsh words but no criminal charges. This is perhaps mrs. Clintons most pivotal day of her president ial campaign. Heres brian mooar from washington. In an unusually public announcement in a complicated investigation, the fbi is recommending no charges in the Hillary Clinton email scandal. There is evidence that they were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information. Despite the former secretary of states longstanding insistence to the contrary there wasnt a single one of those that was marked classified. The fbi found 110 emails sent and received through her private email account contained classified information. None of these emails should have been on any kind of unclassified system. The fbi found no evidence but said it is possible hostile nations accessed her personal account. The Justice Department will make a final ruling based on the fbis recommendation which takes into account similar security investigations. Although there is evidence of potential violations of the statutes regarding the handling of classified information, our judgment is that no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case. The Clinton Campaign is welcoming the news. Republicans, an opportunity to attack clintons biggest vulnerability. Being indicted is far worse. Theres no doubt about that. But the politics, the political fallout of this is going to be ongoing. The investigation is effectively over. But thats not the final word. Brian mooar, nbc news, washing toj. Well, the fbis decision not to press charges comes three weeks before the Democratic National convention. For a look at the potential impact on the decision, lets turn to our political analyst, layrry gersten who joins us liv. Are you surprised about what came out of the decision today . Jessica, im not surprised at the decision to forgo prosecution. The fact of the matter is, theres such a high bar there. The high bar that prosecutors must believe that there was intent. I mean intent to do something wrong. They concluded there was no such intent. But yet, im surprised with the extent to which fbi director comby harshly criticized, i mean harshly criticized clinton for her disregard. He pulled no punches there. What about the shadow of this coming into the convention which is now only four months away. Only four months away from the president ial election and the convention is just around the corner. How will it impact the next few weeks. Short term, its a story that will last perhaps two, three new psyche ms. Thats about it. But you know, for a fact that candidate donald trump, the republican hell go on and on. Hell no longer claim shes a criminal but he can cite the severe criticism which will be great for debate. Longterm, thats another matter. More uncertain. Clinton, no doubt, will still show contrition for court judgment. Shell pivot and go to president ial contests and ask people who is better at managing the economy, who is better at foreign policy, who do you want to look over americas greatest and your greatest needs. Those are the broad questions shell be asking people to think about and theyll think about it hard as they get close to the election. Donald trump, how much fodder will this add to him and the dislike for clinton will be amped up because of what came out of today . Its hard to add to something thats so profound already. The fact of the matter is that this has become an election where millions of voters see themselves as choosing, youve heard the term, the lesser of two evils. Thats what we have right here. This issue now about clinton is going to join the narrative about both candidates. Clinton and trump. In the minds of the voters, just dont deserve to be president. An extraordinary development, one of them will. That they will. In a few months we will know. Thank you larry. We mentioned donald trump and yes, he blasted the fbis decision today. He gave a lengthy speech tonight in north carolina. He also tweeted what he called the rigged system for the fbis decision. Trump told the crowd that clinton put the entire country in danger by using a private email server and that she would likely hack even though the fbi concluded that hacking was only a possibility.
