Again, they were able to stop the progress of that fire. A brutal stabbing inside of a santa rosa Movie Theater may be linked to another deadly attack. Police arrested this man. They believe hes homeless and may have been been in the area for four months. Hes accused of a vicious attack inside the roxy theater yesterday. Police say he stabbed a man in the throat. Also trying to determine if hes the same man who recently murdered a homeless man, also in santa rosa. That victim was stabbed more than 50 times. The growing Police Sex Scandal in the east bay led to another resignation. Today, Contra Costa County Deputy Ricardo perez quit amid allegations that he had sex before it spread to departments in neighboring cities. The 18yearold at the center of the scandal claims she slept with more than two dozen officers. Some of them when she was underage. A handful of the officers have been fired, placed on leave or have stepped down since that sex scandal first erupted. Theres new trouble for tesla and it could impact all companies with selfdriving features. The first ever deadly accident involving autopilot. Nbc bay areas Damian Trujillo joins us with more. Alexander says tesla is in trouble. But this is a problem that can be fixed. Youre in a tesla with this is promotional video of the model s using the autopilot feature. Now the national Highway Traffic Safety Administration has put that feature under the microscope after the first ever death involving a selfdriving car. The federal agency is calling for an examination of the performance and design of the selfdriving mechanism used during the crash. Tesla has a major headache. Reporter the fatal accident occurred last year in florida when the tesla model s was in autopilot mode. Investigators say the car failed to brake when a tractortrailer was crossing a road in front of it likely because the right side of the tractortrailer was inseparable from the brightly lit sky behind it. Attorney Richard Alexander says the autopilot feature is here to stay but it needs to be perfected. Well see that fully develop with vehicles. But were at the very beginning of that change. So now is the time to be really ale alert. Reporter tesla released a statement about the crash noting their cars have been driven 120 million miles in autopilot but also reminding owners, quote, autopilot is an assist feature that requires you to keep your hands on the Steering Wheel at all times and that you need to maintain chrome and responsibility of your vehicle while using it. The announcement of a new federal investigation came hours after another federal agency, the ntsb p spoke about the feature on selfdriving cars. There will be fatal crashes, thats for sure. A month before that deadly crash, the driver killed, joshua brown, posted this video on youtube. In the description, brown claims it shows his tesla model s autopilot feature saving him from being sideswiped by that white truck you see there. This video posted 2 million views. A tip about a car parked at a campus ultimately brought out the bomb squad overnight. Just after midnight, Mountain View police got a call about a car parked there. The car pulled away as they arrived. When they pulled the driver over, something suspicious was found inside. Ultimately, they called out the bomb squad. But now it appears to have been a false alarm. Even though that driver was detained. Just a month ago, though, there was an arson near the same area and in that case police found two incendiary devices and scorch marks on a google earth car and part of a building. A coding error might be to blame for an Animal Shelter accidentally euthanizing two dogs. The dogs actually had homes waiting for them. Now the rescue groups are trying to understand how this all happened. Elyce kirchner is in martinez with the exclusive interview. Elias, whats the explanation . The animal rescuers we spoke to says they notified the shelter that one of the dogs had found a home. Instead, the animal was euthanized. She says it wasnt the only fatal mistake that was made that day. Updated things, theres a group ready to take her, its a miracle. She said barbie, a pit bull mix had found a home. Not just one but two rescue groups in that pile. Another group in petaluma. Both found a way to save the dogs from being euthanized at the Animal Services in martinez. Or so they thought. Something in the paperwork or something went wrong. Instead, on june 18th, barbie was euthanized. In fact, she wasnt the only one. The same day that barbie was euthanized, there was another oversight with another dog named tommy. Our priority is on saving lives. Clearly, we didnt hit the bar with that this time. Were going to use it as an opportunity to learn, get better. The agency admits, barbie was accidentally put down. Most likely due to a coding mistake. In fact, on the day she died, barbie was supposed to be saved and have a biopsy on a tumor. When our medical team went to take the animal to do the biopsy, they had seen that it was not in the kennel where it was supposed to be and checked the system. The system had outcomed it as having been euthanized. It shouldnt have happened. In a place where every day its literally life and death. Any mistake can mean death. Reporter the Animal Services says that the second dog named tommy was euthanized because he wasnt officially adopted. They say they were having trouble with a basic service, mail delivery. Consumer investigator chris chmura has more. Criminal caused this problem real i am. Homeowners say a slow response from the post office added frustration. Back in april, the letter carrier wasnt the only one who opened the mailboxes at the new horizons condo complex. They were broken into. Thieves forced open the mailboxes and destroyed the locks. This was open. This was open. This was open. Mail service stopped. Instead of picking up letters steps from their condos, residents like sue alexander were required to drive to the post office. It was really a hassle. John shirley was ticked too. He reached out to us after the boxes had sat unrepaired for a month and a half. We had to go pick up mail for six weeks. Maybe a couple days. It was six weeks and im like i got to do something.
