New moms who receive care at the Valley Medical Center infarpt care unit between mid august and mid november will soon be contacted by hospital staff. Dr. Harris recommends all of the babies born during that time be treated immediately for tuberculosis, even if the child appears healthy. Treat the babies with this preventive antibiotic to assure that they dont get severe disease. Reporter dr. Harris says an employee who worked in the infant care unit tested positive for the bacteria that attacked the lungs. She was not even coughing. Its very unlikely that she was highly contagious.
