The girl scouts were selling cookies in front of this Safeway Store in san jose this afternoon and they were doing well. They had 600 in their cash box. The girls are with troops 60160 mostly fifth graders. 10yearold sophia says a man tried to get the cash box right out of her hand. She did her best to hang on but he was too strong. The thief then took off running. I dpt know there were people out here what would do such a thing. And it just made me feel bad. The thief came back to the parking lot 10 minutes later. Thats where witnesses spotted him and got his license plate number as he took off. Police were able to quickly pull him over and arrest him for strong armed robbery. They found 300 on him and he told police he tossed the cash box in nearby creek. A canine officer found it. The girl got their money back and on top of that police bought 240 worth of cookes a and gave the troops 60 cash. The girl scouts were raising money far Service Project about water conservation. The Pacific MaritimeAssociation Says the longshoremen took breaks at the same time. The shipping companies would rather have staggered break time so the work can continue after all there is a lost backlogs to clear after the monthlong port dispute and consequence for slow downs. The shipping companies dismissed labor for the ditoday and an arbitrator was notified. The arbitrator sense ruled that they took part in an illegal work stoppage but it was nearly toward the end of the day when the decision came down and too late to bring back workers. The port of oakland sees this as more lost time than possible serious consequences down the line. Theres a longterm risk here. 73,000 jobs in the bay area depend on the port of oakland. If disputes continue the risk is that cargo owners will divert their shipments to other u. S. Gateways and away from oakland. If that happens, jobs are going to be lost here at the port.
