They tested the scope, made sure it was used and sterilized properly and found seven other cases of infection. The cre bacteria, fatal in as many as half of those whose blood streams are exposed, somehow entered the Ronald Reagan ucla facility. Doctors believed two of the scopes being used carried the infection. We do surveillance on cre and have done investigations over the last two years. Reporter somehow the bacteria did not turn up when the first patient was admitted the one who may have been a carrier. Cultures were taken from that person, say doctors, but most of the cultures were negative. We didnt screen that particular patient.
