Aldon spmyth for half a season. We have live coverage of the decision. Jim kozimor breaks down what it means, but we begin with scott budman with the buzz coming from fans. Reporter as a lot of fans told us, they had a pretty god feeling aldon smyth was going to get a suspension of some kind. When they found out that suspension was for nine games, many of the fans turned their attention to another penalty recently handed down by the nfl. Aldon smith has been suspended four games for Substance Abuse and five more for violating the leagues personal conduct policy. This sparked a variety of reactions. This is definitely a huge blow for the 49ers. It puts more on the plate of colin kaepernick. I think this commissioner is making a statement that we mean business. You act like good citizens and good people in and around the community or else were going to come down on you hard. Reporter a different reaction from many 49er fans who say his penalty raises questions about the much lighter penalty given to ray rice, rice suspended just two games after accusations of domestic abuse. My sense of it is this is something that needs to be taken seriously, but id really like to understand whats up with ray rice, because abuse of women being compared to a dui, i want to see those things be stacked in the appropriate direction. Police say he was driving under the influence of alcohol and in possession of pot. He was supposed to have made a bomb threat but didnt face charges for that. He was in a work program and probation for assault charwith Weapon Charges and dui charges. The next question is how will the team deal with the loss for the first nine games. Jim kozimor is live with some answers. Is this a blow for the niners team . It certainly is. Aldon to make 2. 3 million for base salary. Obviously hell make less than half of that now as a result of the suspension. Its a big loss for the niners as well, who are already without bowman due to a torn acl. This comes just before the 49ers have to make their final cut which is due at 1 00. Dan skuta is expected to fill in for aldon. Take a look at the 49ers first nine games. They have a by in week eight, but as this is a nine game rather than nine week suspension, smith wont be eligible to return until week ten.
