This patch of grass next to northbound i5 has been torched. A visible reminder of where one bus crash victim escaped and screamed for help but couldnt extinguish the flames on his back. I tried to spray the water hose on him but i cant. Reporter the reality is a grim one for those affected by the collision. Ten deaths. Nearly three dozen injuries though many of those folks have now been released, and no answer for what caused a fed ex driver to swerve into oncoming traffic. We dont know whether the fed ex driver had fallen asleep, whether he experienced a mechanical t mechanical issue with his vehicle or the accident on the southbound side. Reporter but now people are teaming up to try to bring closure, recreating the scene that maps and diagrams the accident. We take the tire mark, gouge marks, trajectory of the glass, every little detail that you can think of we take and take all that data and put it together in order to determine the exact movement of the vehicle and cause of the crash. Reporter the down side, it takes time. Chp says it could be anywhere between three and six months before we learn the exact cause of the crash, no consolation to Family Members or those who grieve for not just who but what was lost. What is particularly tragic about this incident is that these young men and women have it all in front of them. They are the first generation in the main. They are students from underserved communities. Most of all were students of color. We are saddened deep into our soul for this particular accident. Reporter and i asked chancellor white where this ranks in the history of his experiences with students. He told me this is absolutely without a doubt the worst single experience hes had, not simply because of the death toll involved but the irony of whats happened to these students. Im sam brock. Friends and family say they had been dating for a while before getting engaged in paris last december. There is an outpouring of support and grief on their facebook pages. Weres also following the fate of twins on separate buses. They are rarely apart, but this time they were separate. Her twin has not been heard from since the crash. The family is awaiting word from the coroner. Hearing the phone ring is agony. You are terrified that it might be bad news. Its horrible. The. Both sisters were accepted to several colleges but wanted to go to the same school. They even skipped their prom which is set for tonight so they can take the tour of Humboldt State together. So what led to this mangled mess on this highway. Investigators are poring over the crash site but are looking at safety records of the companies involved. What have you found so far . Investigators will be looking at several factors including, did the fed ex driver fall asleep at the while, did he lose control, was there a mechanical failure or was this stretch of road known to be the dangerous. The fatal crash involving a fed ex freight and tour bus happened along i5 in the city of orland. According to data we obtained, there have been just nine accidents along that stretch of roadway since 2008. The majority happened within a mile of this stretch. Head on collisions along this road is very rare. The only other accident caused bay driver losing control and hiding into oncoming traffic happened more than 10 miles away back in 2008. According to records we obtained from the medical motor carrier safety association. Fid exfreight has been cited more than 600 times for driving dangerously. Nearly half of those violations were for speeding. Others include failing to obey traffic signals. Improper lane changes and using a cell phone or texting while driving. Meanwhile, the ceo and chairman of fed ex has released a statement that reads in part, it will take some time to fully understand exactly how this accident occurred and why. It will take some time to also look into all these things. And he wants everyone to know that here at fed ex we are committed to providing every resource necessary to assist investigators in their efforts to understand what happened. Fed ex freight is a massive the company. They have more than 20,000 vehicles and employ 35,000 employees. As with all employees, they must undergo drug and alcohol testing. New video tonight connected to a suspicious fire at oakland childrens hospital. Oakland firefighters released this Video Surveillance of a man who they describe as a person of interest. According to investigators, the video shows the man walking into the area your the fire started last friday morning. The fire burned part of an Administration Building on 53rd street. Firefighters have not released what started it, but they say flames caused 150,000 worth of damage. No injuries were reported. Nearly a quarter million of free travel has the Michael Peevy back in the news tonight. Now a proposed change in the statese ethics laws. Its the story that seems to never go away money, influence and power. Stood jerry hill announced he wants to change the states ethics laws to prohibit mr. Police are trying to find out what happened in a miami condo last week. A report indicates a woman walked into a Police Station and said she passed out after drinking with kaepernick and two other football players. On twitter, the quarterback called the accusation maid up made up and completely wrong. Kaepernick went on to thank his fans for support and said their faith is not misplaced. Another player dealing with his own problems, Chris Culliver pleading not guilty in a hitandrun case. Officers arrested him last month after they say he hit a cyclist. What youll notice are these areas of clouds that we did see and then these trails of moisture coming out of the clouds. That trail of moisture is the virga. Its basically moisture in the midlevels that evaporates before it hits the ground. If it were to touch the ground it would be rainfall, but since it evaporated, we call it virga. That cloud cover got all sparked off from this low pressure. Thats not going to provide any problems for this weekend. Its just going to continue to head off toward the east. It is cloudy out here and unfortunately, not our classic San Francisco views. Pretty gloomy there throughout the east barite now. But well take you to tomorrows forecast. Its a matter of seconds where you could die or live, and thats an experience i dont wish to anyone, i really dont. Reporter Authorities Say they dont know what cause add fed ex truck to swerve, plunge through the median and collide into a tour bus full of Prospective College students. Such these are such in depth details, investigations, we dont expect to have a time report for a minimum of three months, 90 days. And Humboldt State university is the University Behind the program to get these kids from various parts of california up to that college to be able to evaluate their prospects. He said the worst part of this tragedy, the most tragic element is that these are kid whose have fought and clawed to get where they are to be on the precipice and lose everything. Reporter at 428,000, this 900 square foot condo has been on the market all of 72 hours. Already the sellers have been getting multiple calls all saying the same thing. A property one of her buyers was interested in suddenly got pulled off the market. Her buyer made a bid. It got 11 offers, up to 20 above the asking price. Ive actually run into this situation several times since the first of the year. Its a vicious cycle for people to see how hard it is to buy their next home and decide not to list their current home. Prices keep rising, but inventory continues to drop. The south bay is on fire. So prices are up 15 yearoveryear. Inventorys down 11 yearoveryear. And that was when inventory was down from the year before. We didnt think it could get worse, but there are fewer and fewer homes to buy. Someone had chipped off the gold medal from the bronze tommy smith. I dont understand why somebody would want to vandalize our statue.
