Reporter San Francisco police say theres more to the story and the bottom line is they didnt have what they needed to make an arrest. The officers did process the scene, were not able to find evidence of a theft that had been committed as well as the registered owner. They were not able to contact the registered owner of the vehicle. Reporter tonight they say the Investigation Continues and if evidence is uncovered they could make an arrest in the future. They also say they understand why residents would feel frustrated especially as theft numbers continue to climb but also say arrests without proof go nowhere. All within the parameters of the law. We cant be arresting people based on a set of facts that would not hold the District Attorney with the proper evidence to prosecute a case. Reporter tonight as Police Continue to investigate, many in the neighborhood say theyre not sure what else they can do but will continue doing all they can to prevent their block from being a target for thieves. Christie smith, nbc bay area news. Well, right now the ntsb is beginning its investigation into the deadly midair collision over the watsonville airport. It happened yesterday around 3 00 p. M. As i looked up i could see the 152 break apart and come down in pieces. And i saw the 340 go by at a high rate of speed and it was slowly rolling further and further to the left. The victims have not been identified yet. According to the tail number the cessna 152 was owned and rented out to pilots by united flights services. The second plane is registered in wynton near merced. The ntsb will put out a preliminary report in two weeks. A full report could take two years. The man cheated them out of tens of thousands of dollars after hiring them for a party. As nbc bay areas joe rosatto jr. Tells us. I had a normal 9 00 to 5 00, i quit my job and joined the circuit. Reporter in the gritty section of industrial oakland performers Christine Lee hone their circuit dream. They formed dahlias entertainment, an Asian American run event with weddings and festivals. But when the pandemic hit, the big top came down on all the groups bookings. We lost all of our work. Reporter as the women decided whether to try to continue out of the blue came an offer from an acquaintance lee knew from the tech world. He reached out and said, hey, i know that the dahlias have gone through a really rough patch because of covid. Reporter lee said dillman, a prominent tech leader, wanted to book her troupe. According to texts provided by lee, dillman wanted to go big to support the performers. He kept saying things like triple the budget, pay performers three times the amount, pay for all the flights. Reporter the dahlias hired 20 people for the event from staff to performers all paid out of their own pocket. The party took place at a sonoma winery, a couple dozen guests including dillman watched the acts. We were just over the moon. We were so excited to be back and performing alongside our other performers. Reporter the good vibes faded away after the event when the troupe says the 20,000 bill for their Services Never got paid. We waited, we pushed, and for the next year i contacted him almost every day asking him for payment. Reporter lee showed us texts that appear to show dillman apologizing for the delay and even offering to add extra pay. But then in april the group got a possible explanation for dillmans financial silence. The fbi arrested dillman and accused him of defrauding investors in a San Franciscobased cryptocurrency trading fund. The case has yet to go to trial and dillman did not respond to our multiple requests for comment. But in one online publication he said the amount owed the women was in dispute and involved the contract he said he never signed. The bottom line, the dahlias are now 20,000 in the hole i couldnt even process it. I was like, how is this possible . Even though we hadnt been paid we believed we were going to be and we carried the confidence and energy forward. Reporter the dahlias calendar is once again filling up with events. This tuesday theyre staging a performance fundraiser to try and make back the money they lost on the party. Yet what theyve lost in trust theyve made up for in gratitude as many hands now hold them up. So to see how much hope there is and how much support there is in the community. In july for the First Time Ever more people watched streaming content than broadcast television or cable which means more of us tune in to netflix, hbo max and our own nbc peacock service more than ever before. Now viewing tracking firm nielsen provided us these numbers and points out streaming has never gone past both broadcast and cable. Why does it matter . Why do we track this . We track it for advertising . When we watch whatever we want we subscribe, we dont advertise. Theres a lot of concern that more people are streaming and that the consumer model of, well, less advertising, more subscription seems to be winning out. Was there one show or one streaming service that kind of put this over the top . For netflix its been this way for years and they were the leaders. Disney plus has had a big jump. Were seeing nbc and peacock jump in, hbo with their max service, 18 billion minutes in the month of july of Stranger Things alone streamed on netflix. 18 billion minutes. I cant even compute that. Were on traditional media and peacock, we have it both ways. Will cable media ever catch up or has that ship sailed . Its trying to catch up by having it both ways and thats the change in the business that weve seen. Streamers like netflix are always going to stream. The traditional broadcast networks are starting to catch up whether its cnn, nbc, hulu in the mix, espn trying to say, okay, traditional still has a place and obviously movies will be in the movie theaters. Streaming is here to stay. You have hybrid models where things are coming out in theaters or on the traditional screens at home and streaming on your devices that are portable at the same time. Theres a lot of choice out there. Im just getting used to seeing a movie in the theater or first run at home. But your children will grow up and become adults maybe not seeing all that many advertisements in their life and that is a huge Business Model that has changed since we were kids. Well be paying for it with the services. Thank you, scott. Janelle . New funding coming to spaces for aapi individuals. An Assembly Member announced a 3. 5 million commitment. Aimed at expanding resources for seniors living in the sunset district. The money will go to renovating the South Sunset Playground clubhouse and creating a new Community Center for aapi seniors. This is a safe space for seniors. Underscoring the importance for this funding the senior population is growing. He says onethird of all San Francisco residents will be 60 years or older and about half of those seniors will be Asian American. All this summer weve been supporting our schools.
