Once he is returned to california, hell face murder, kidnapping, and rape charges. If he is convicted, hed likely spend the rest of his life in prison. In sunnyvale, thom jensen, nbc bay area news. A south bay mother is accused of starving and choking her 3yearold child to death. All of this allegedly unholding during an exorcism. That mother appeared in a san jose courtroom today. Claudia hernandez sat by herself in court, shackled, wearing a brown inmate uniform for protective custody declaration. Today a judge combined that case with that of her brother and her father, all of them accused of child abuse leading to death. The District Attorney says the trio believed claudias daughter was posed by demons because she would wake up at night screaming at the small family Pentecostal Church on second street. The three allegedly performed an exorcism. Documents show the three told investigators they repeatedly strangled the 3yearold girl on and off for more than seven hours. They said they were trying to get the demons out of her body. This one is very difficult to stomach. The victim in this case is particularly vulnerable. She was 3yearold girl, and these are people that she trusts. It was her mother, her uncle and her grandfather. Legal analyst steven clark says as horrifying as the allegations may be, it wont be easy to get a jury to sentence them to the maximum of 25 to life because the trio maintained a religious defense for their actions. The fbi and the Justice Department are declining to comment about the raid at President Trumps maralago estate in florida. They spent much of the day yesterday on the sprawling palm beach property. Former president was in new york at the time of the raid. A federal judge clearly found that there was probable cause of a crime and that there would be probable cause that the evidence of that crime would be at maralago. An emergency decision could soon mean a lot more vaccine to protect people from monkeypox. The plan approved by the fda a few hours ago will split every current vaccine into five smaller doses. As nbc bay area Sergio Quintana explains, it would mean a lot more of the limited vaccine would be there to make sure it goes around. The question is, is it enough of a dose to work . Reporter the monkeypox clinic at zuckerberg General Hospital is open again after having a shutdown abruptly in the last few days for lack of available vaccine. Today people lined up before 5 00 a. M. , hoping to get one of the 10,000 new doses the city has received. By midday, the line had shrunk, and those still waiting were increasingly optimistic theyd finally get a vaccine. Yeah, super short. It took me about an hour. Reporter how many times have you been trying to get it . This is my second time. Came on a thursday a couple of weeks ago, and they told us they didnt visit. Reporter scott and his friend jay both got their first full dose of the Monkeypox Vaccine. But soon a fraction of the current dose may be given. With the Monkeypox Vaccine continuing to be in such short supply, the u. S. Government just authorized intradermal injections, allowing only 1 5 of the vaccine dose to now be administered. Of course ucsf dr. Of Infectious Diseases dr. Peter chinhong, a smaller amount of the vaccine just under the skin could be enough to trigger an immune response. Its been done before to control yellow fever, but its never been studied in monkeypox. Im just worried there will be a lot of pain and suffering in the next few months because we just dont have enough vaccines. And it will mean a lot more transmission will occur. So given the information that we have so far, i think its worth multiplying the vaccine by five to try and protect as many people as possible. Reporter during a hearing on the virus and the governments response today, state senator scott wiener, and a couple of people who testified about their recovery from their painful infections also raised questions about restrictive rules for a therapeutic called tpox. Theyre calling on the u. S. Government to grant emergency use authorization for that treatment as well so it can be more widely prescribed. In San Francisco, Sergio Quintana, nbc bay area news. As bay area students return to class, monkeypox is adding to parents worries this year. Monkeypox can be spread through close personal skintoskin contact as well as touching objects, fabric and surfaces that have been used by someone with monkeypox. We asked dr. Peter chinhong who says doctors are not concerned at this point. I think we are most worried about kids with monkeypox if they also are with someone who has been diagnosed with monkeypox. In that setting, you definitely want to have separate utensils and bedding and towels and treat it the same way like covid. As for covid, with many schools not requiring masks anymore, dr. Peters says families should consider their risk factors. For example, if a child is immunocompromised on unvaccinated, or if they live with grandparents or someone who is immunocompromised. He says kids only need to be tested if theyre experiencing symptoms. Kris sanchez spoke with dr. Peter about various issues facing parents. And you see in san jose right now, plenty of blue sky and talk about enjoyable temperatures. 78 degrees, and were going to be down in some 60s here by 8 00, 9 00, and also 10 00. Also, looking spectacular out here towards walnut creek. Unlimited visibility off towards the distance. 80 degrees and the 70s rolling in at 7 00 and 8 00. Mostly clear skies tonight. Lets move it out to San Francisco. This is really whats been controlling our weather, and you can see the fog right here at the immediate coastline. And we currently have 66 degrees. That fog is going get thicker later on tonight as it will eventually drop down into some lower 60s. Now our weather pattern as weve been talking about has all been controlled by the fog. But its something thats been helping get that going. And its the system hanging out offshore since last week. The change were going to see as we move through the next couple of days, its going gradually move up the coastline. At this point its going to keep the fog going at the coast. I wanted to make sure if youre getting back to work, work from home is over, you got to get back on the schedule, also the kids back to school, that if youre up tomorrow morning, 5 00, 6 00, 7 00, youre not going to escape the cloud cover.
