Angel del angel has known him since he was a boy. He also lived across the street from st. John the baptist church, where he allegedly drown his 4yearold child in the ballpaptismal pool with his 9yearold son witnessing the homicide. He claims he was high on drugs, and was convinced maria jose had the devil inside of her. He said the daughter was really sick, and he put her inside the pool to the church. Reporter the 42yearold suspect then carried the unconscious girl, along with his son across the street into the back parking lot of the police station. He took her dress and here to the police department. Reporter the girl died at a local hospital. He is now facing murder and felony child abuse charges, and in court today, his lawyer raised doubts about his competency. Today criminal proceedings were suspended and hell be evaluated. Reporter and the suspect will be back here on monday in court. Thats when the judge will hear the doctors evaluation. Meanwhile, Family Friends tell me that the family is struggling right now emotionally and financially. Im told that the wife of the suspect is pregnant with three other children. And has three other children, rather. Live in santa rosa tonight, im elyce kirchner, nbc bay area news. Also in the north bay, new at 5 00, a suspended gang leader captured. He is the suspect charged, the latest suspect charged in the murder of a Novato High School student. Prosecutors say nielson afarrow is the leader of a gang. A total of seven people charged with attacking two students from the high school. One of them was killed with a machete. The other survived gunshot and stab wounds after pretending to be dead. Authorities say the two teens were lured by rival gang members in the ambush attack. A brothel operating just across the street from one of san mateo most exclusive high schools. People coming and going for short periods of time. Also right there in san mateo, a nightmare of the dog groomer. A heartbroken couple fighting back against a popular pet store following the death of their dog. Terry peacock and stephen zero filed a civil lawsuit against the san mateo petsmart. They say they took their 1yearold dog into the store for a routine nail trim when minutes later, an employee brought the dog out with two broken ribs and punctured lung. The dog died shortly after at the store. This happened back in may. A petsmart worker faces charges of felony animal cruelty. We had no way to know that taking him in could end his life, you know. Its like if i were going in for a pedicure and i died getting a pedicure. Its just i cant even wrap my head around it. Holding on to their other dogs there. The lawsuit also alleges an Alarming Number of pet owners have reported serious injury and or death to pets while being groomed at petsmart. The couple says part of a lawsuit is to hold petsmart accountable, because the grooming industry is not regulated. No word yet on how much money theyre suing for. We do have a Winter Weather advisory in effect through this evening into tomorrow morning at the summit levels. Pass over maybe towards reno, looking at about 4 to 10 inches expected around 5,000 feet, a mix of snow. So watch out for those wintry conditions. They may require chains at some point if youre getting out there early tomorrow morning. Doppler radar for the bay area shows the cloud cover has increased. No measurable rainfall just yet. But we dont have to look too far off to the north to see heavier pockets of activity, mainly near eureka and the northern coastline. So eventually, well get this moving our way. The biggest change today has been the timing has slowed down a little bit. So you see in the futurecast, by 8 30 tonight, a few spotty showers. Middletown, calistoga and santa rosa. We will see accumulating rainfall from marin, napa and sonoma counties to 11 30 tonight and parts of the peninsula. And for the east bay and south bay, its a later event, just after midnight well begin to see that rainfall pushing down. Not a big storm, as we mentioned yesterday.
