It happened during rush hour, just before 9 00 a. M. , at one of the busiest train stations in the new york area, the hoboken station. Passengers say the new Jersey Transit train never slowed. It crashed through a barrier, jumped the track and slammed into a wall. The ceiling came down, the columns came down, couple of people were buried under the rubble. Somebody picked me up and passed me to somebody else through the window. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie says the engineer survived and is cooperating with investigators. The one person killed was a mother of an 18monthold baby girl. She was standing on the platform when she was struck and killed by debris. Coming up, like other recent crashes, the new jersey train lacked auto braking technology. Next on nightly news, why most trains dont have this potentially lifesaving system. Reporter the reason . Julie later discovered she had a severe learning disability, dyslexia. That literary dream seemed farther away than ever. I always felt like i was going to do something big.
