Multiple power poles out of commission in san joses silver creek area, after wednesdays winds punished power lines and twisted metal. Further north in burlingame work to clear two downed trees along the busy el camino rial and broadway intersection. The trees were uprooted by strong winds and fell across the road. One hitting this house. I was at work and my wife called me. And she says she was in crying and very nervous. And she said the tree fell on down on our house. Reporter the family was lucky, and nobody was hurt. Now, with power back on here theyre cleaning up. It was a rough day. Rough 24 hours. Right before dinner ill tell you. But we are extremely lucky to be alive. Reporter while in another part of the bay area theyre gradually getting the lights back on. And speaking of lights, pg e crews have them at the ready, because they will likely take a little longer into the evening to get all these power poles back up to speed. More than 1500 people in the south bay remain without power. In the east bay 1100 people still in the dark. 130 customers in the north bay without power and another 1100 in San Francisco and the peninsula waiting for their power to be turned back on. A third person has died in Northern California because of the storm. The tree fell onto a home this morning in redding killing a woman, trapping a child. Reporter he said shortly after 7 00 he saw a man hovering around his girlfriends jeep. He yelled at him and the man took off. Andrew chased him a short distance, then stopped. Thats when he noticed the interior of the jeep was on fire. He sprang into action filling a bucket with water. We was pouring water on our car. After that was out, he looked behind us and says hey that car behind us is really on fire. I grabbed what water i had left and ied to him to grab a fire extinguisher and we started putting that one out too. Reporter James Slayton owns the suv. I was just devastated. I was like oh, no. I just came back from a trip from la, being with my mom for a couple weeks over christmas and i was just horrified. Reporter the large rock the suspect used is still in the back seat. In addition to the two vehicle fires here there was another within set last night just a few blocks away. And during a fivehour period between monday night and early Tuesday Morning there were three more car fires set near bascam avenue. They arrested a suspect in connection with one of the fires and are trying to determine if he is linked to nine recent vehicle fires in the south bay. The average temperature is going to be 29 degrees. May have a few isolated spots in the upper 20s. The average will be 31. And well look for 34 in the south bay. North bay, east bay and south bay will be under this warning through 9 00 on thursday. May have some damage to sensitive plants and well also expect patchy spots of ice potentially on some of the roadways. Otherwise, it is common sense, but were not used to dressing in weather for the 20s and low 30s. Make sure to dress in layers. The ghoflove and scarf is always a good idea. And you may have to do a little bit of scraping on that windshield especially in parts of the north bay.
