Reporter well, its because theyve got these twin tankers on the road here. Behind me you can see them. 4,000 gallons leaked out of that rear tanker truck this morning as it flipped over. The cleanup has taken all day. Remember this happened at 7 00 this morning. It made a mess of the morning commute for tens of thousands of drivers and now its doing it again for the ride home. The california Highway Patrol says the driver just lost control of his rig on this turn. Drifted a little to the right side of the road, the right side tires of the rear trailer left the roadway, got on to the dirt shoulder. Reporter the rear tank started to skid sideways. 4,000 gallons of gasoline sloshed to one side and over it went. The driver, a sacramento man, was not hurt. The company that owns the truck, Alliance Tank lines out of california, is on the hook for the cleanup, which sources say could run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Independent Cleanup Company brought in a truck load of kitty litter to sop up the spilled fuel. The coast guard reports none of the spilled gasoline got into the bay. Its just a matter of digging up and exposing of the contaminated dirt, but the second tanker needs to be emptied and all the spilled gasoline collected before crews can upright the overturned big rig because of fears of fire. We want to get all the gasoline away from, out of the dirt, out of the trailer, off the roadway, then they can right it. Reporter the spill caused the evacuation of several residents in homes outside San Quentin State Prison grounds. Currently, the prison is on lockdown. Were here across from city hall where supporters have set up this tent to symbolize a protest against san joses new regulation, but it is free pot that is getting everyones attention. The allamerican Cannabis Club is closing its doors friday because the owner says he cant beat san joses tighter new regulations by this weeks deadline, but the owners are fighting back with voter referendums to limit the citys power. Today the coalition set up stations in about a dozen locations citywide offering vouchers to registered san jose voters for a free gram of pot and medical evaluation to become patients. The coalition avoided accusations of drug dealing by making signing the referendum optional, meaning you can get the voucher even if you didnt sign the petition. One signer told us the city makes users look and feel like criminals. I was always getting the marijuana from a friend of mine and what not. I dont want to do that. Thats illegal, obviously. I was really appreciative of their help. Its definitely desperation. We have a very short period of time to make something thats virtually impossible happen, but were trying everything we can. Reporter the Coalition Still needs about 30,000 signatures for two referendums that would target certain city restrictions but would not do away with regulations altogether. Officers responded to a report of a shooting around 10 30 last night, found a woman dead on her porch. They arrested the neighbor, michael wilson. The gun likely used in the shooting was allegedly found in his house. The killing is vallejos seventh murder of the year. The victim is a 57yearold woman. The sharks plan to hire men and women to clean the ice during the game, but when some fans saw a proposal that included different uniforms for men and women, they were outraged. Vera sloan is a die hard sharks fan who was one of the first to sign an online petition against hiring socalled ice girls and plans to boycott games. In fact, raj, more than 500 specimens have been uncovered so far and most of them are believed to be at least 20 million years old. During that time, the ocean reportedly extended right inland into the central valley, so water covered this area in fremont, where a new dam is being built next to the existing dam. As part of construction, 10 million cubic yards of rock, soil, and dirt are being moved and in the process, the fossils are being uncovered. We found both vertebras and invertebrates, things like scallops, snails, scallops the size of dinner plates, snails, barnacles.
