Then electrocuted two people in oakland. Officers were called to a house on birch street last night about a downed power line that went into a house. Gunshots may have hit the power line and caused it to snap. Police found two men that had been electrocuted. Jermaine tarver died instantly. Neighbors say holiday fireworks this year sounded louder than before. Last year was nothing compared to this year. Last year was a candy walk cakewalk. Crews did work on repairing that line today. Fireworks also may have been the cause of another fire near cal state east bay. Firefighters say this began last night in front of gates school in the the gates in front of the school in hayward. The fire burned two acres. Firefighters stopped the flames before they reached any campus buildings. 2 billion is what president obama will be asking congress for next week all to help bursting Border Control facilities around the country, as thousands of undocumented immigrants from Central America, all women and children, are being transferred to cities in Southern California and across the southwest. Theyre just some of the thousands of families being crowded from Immigration Processing Centers across Southern California. Tensions flared again. Protesters have already successfully blocked three buses of undocumented immigrants in the past week. Its too hard on the United States to support all of them. Reporter on friday, they were outnumbered by supporters of those fleeing violence and poverty in search of a better life. Everybody came from somewhere. What were here to combat is the hate. Reporter in grand prairie, texas, teams are surveying sites to shelter some of the children. Im okay with it. As a christian, we are supposed to invite and welcome. None of them have money, no food. All of them have kids. Reporter in tucson, arizona, hundreds of families are being cared for as they wait for deportation hearings. My concern is about these families. Reporter 90,000 undocumented imgraduates from Central America are expected to arrive this year in the United States. The influx thats overcrowding the Border Patrol facilities has ignited a firestorm felt all the way back in washington. Doing everything i can do to make the immigration system smarter and more efficient. Reporter but theres no action likely on capitol hill this year. An accident involving legal fireworks has cost a south bay man both of his hands. This accident happened last night on the fourth of july in san jose near castle park while the man and his family were celebrating the fourth. The victim had his right hand amputated. Doctors were able to save two fingers on his other hand. Hes a construction worker and this accident will most certainly end that job, according to his family. He was lighting what families described as a professional grade explosive, the kind used in large fireworks displays when it prematurely exploded. He was lighting that device in his mothers driveway on leeward drive just before 10 00 last night as his whole family watched. Today family members told us they are heartbroken. They say they have a message they want others to hear about the dangers of buying and lighting illegal fireworks. What were trying to do is trying to get those firecrackers out from the streets, especially from the stores where theyre selling it for 50. He lost his two hands. Reporter he bought the device at a market in san jose. Police are now investigating that store. In addition to losing both of his hands, he also suffered burns on his face and ears. Evacuation orders in place right now for a grass fire burning in yolo county. Authorities have closed highway 128 between winters and highway 121. The blaze started at Monticello Dam last night. Firefighters have the blaze 15 contained. Theyve ordered evacuations at the golden bear estates. Also under evacuation orders, the canyon creek resort campgrounds. You could see the smoke in the air here at this picture. This was taken today by cal fire. New at 5 00, firefighters rescue a dog from a burning building in the north bay. Vallejo firefighters found the second floor of this complex completely covered in smoke. It took them 30 minutes to knock back the flames. Then they found a dog inside. We were able to locate a dog. We pulled the dog out. Gave that animal oxygen and transported him to a local veterinarian hospital. He seems to be in Good Condition at this time. Thats good to hear. You can see right here, we were working on that pup. No other injuries were reported. According to firefighters, the fire may have been started by a drier. And finding alternate routes on this holiday weekend, drivers dealing with parts of i280 closed in San Francisco and going into San Francisco. The northbound lanes are blocked off from traffic from the 101 interchange to near at t park. Nbc bay areas Christie Smith is live on the freeway in San Francisco where all that construction work is under way. This will certainly reroute a lot of folks. Reporter it certainly will. What theyre telling us right now is on time, thats the message that caltrans is saying, 5 00 a. M. Monday morning for reopening the northbound lanes of 280 through San Francisco. Theyre replacing a wornout seismic safety hinge that is embedded in the roadway. Its more than 50 years old. With 65,000 cars using it each day, it just needed to be replaced. But that closure that started thursday night, certainly having an impact on drivers being pushed onto 101 or surface streets. Caltrans saying theyre keeping an eye on that, trying to pass realtime delays on to drivers. They removed the section of roadways that had the hinge. And theyre on to the next step, which is layers of cement. So now whatheyre doing is theyre trying to rebuild it with cement and rebar. Thats whats happening over the next couple of hours here. Also, very busy weekend here in San Francisco at the same time. Fillmore jazz fest, San Francisco opera at at t park tonight at 8 00. Theyre telling me 20,000 people at least expected for that. We asked about the possibility of it opening any earlier than 5 00 a. M. Monday and they said for now theyre just sticking with that time. This video shows Israeli Police beating a young male who then gets dragged from the scene. Nbc news has learned that that young male is a 15yearold palestinian boy from florida. He was there to attend a funeral for his 16yearold cousin, one of the three teenagers found dead in the west bank on wednesday. His mother is outraged. Im infuriated. Im just in a state of shock. Im just speechless. We learned the boy is the american consulate says he is recovering from injuries to his face. He is also still being detained by Israeli Police. Israels Justice Ministry is investigating now. Many people are shocked by cell phone video that shows a chp officer hitting a woman. Authorities say she was resisting arrest at the time. As joe fryer reports, some are demanding a federal investigation into the incident. Reporter startling cell phone video shows a california Highway Patrol officer repeatedly hitting a woman along a busy l. A. Highway. But what happened before the cameras started rolling . According to the arrest report, the woman had been walking along the narrow right shoulder barefoot and at times within traffic lanes. The officer called to the scene says the woman was ignoring commands to stop and became physically combative. He again tried to contact the individual to stop them from walking in the traffic lanes, walking on the freeway. Thats when the incident occurred. Reporter the video shows the officer hitting the womans head and upper body at least 11 times in 11 seconds while she tries to block the blows. Shes like this. But shes not fighting anymore. And hes still wailing on her. An these arent like taps. These are grown man on top of you, punching you. Reporter david diaz shot the video while driving by the scene, then posted it to youtube. Now the Highway Patrol is promising a thorough investigation into the video and the events leading up to the altercation. We will leave no stone unturned in gathering these facts. Reporter civil rights activists in l. A. Say they want a federal probe. We saw something that was repulsive, reprehensible and totally out of character for them. Reporter toward the end of the video, an offduty officer arrives to help handcuff the woman whose identity remains a mystery. Authorities say her name is unknown. Reporter but in the middle of downtown San Francisco, an exhibit in the California Historical society is taking visitors back to nature. We brought yosemite here to the city. Reporter it was 150 years ago this week, president Abraham Lincoln signed a grant act designating yosemite a national park. Its the first such act in the country and really in the world. Reporter exhibit director jessica howe says the exhibit is a walk through the parks lush and complicated history. It gives you a lens through which to better understand yosemite. Reporter yosemites dramatic Granite Cliffs and ancient trees are filled many a lens and canvas. These photographers helped us to sort of define landscape photography. Reporter photographers like ansel adams. Ansel adams was printing one of his first views of yosemite. Reporter painters like albert beerstad. Shown here sitting on a small stool making a painting in yosemite. Reporter its inspired many to climb to new heights. Many of the technologies that the climbers take for granted today in terms of the shoes, the roping methods, all of these things, were developed in yosemite. Reporter but even a place known for pristine nature isnt without the fingerprints of man. There was a rite in Yosemite Valley in 1970 between hippies and park police. So in this case we have a u. S. Army cavalry uniform laying next to a early Parks Service uniform. The cavalry was charged with protecting the park in its early days. Reporter and mans fingerprints havent always wiped clean. What youre seeing here is the pelt of one of the last grizzly bears killed in yosemite. Reporter yosemites always been a place for the bay area and the world to escape certainly puts mere humans in their place. Reporter like most visitors, greg moore has a story. When i was a kid, i was a boy scout. And we used to hike the john muir trail. Reporter walking in john muirs footsteps. I think as john muir must have felt, it really is a sub lyme police. Reporter ironic a park so large could make us feel it reminds us in a way of how small a thing we are in the long history of time. Reporter it even makes our concrete forest feel small, too. Toasty saturday so far. Yeah, inland temperatures really climbing up today. We have 93 right now in livermore. San jose, 80 degrees. You San Francisco, you have the fog coming in, 66 degrees right now. Around the east bay, were at 68 degrees there in oakland. 70s around the peninsula currently. Speaking of oakland, 68 degrees, a game coming up later on this evening. Should be close to 65. Breezy at times. Winds out of the northwest from 10 to 20 Miles Per Hour. Temperatures inland are warmer than they were yesterday. Temperature change, as much as 11 degrees warmer at this hour than just this same time yesterday. The warming all across, even across San Francisco and oakland. High pressure is beginning to strengthen. We have that sea breeze clearly pushing in the low clouds over the top of alcatraz and the east bay heading into tomorrow morning. The wind speeds will be up to about 35 Miles Per Hour at times which will push the clouds through the san bruno gap. The clouds will fill in across the bay as we head into tonight. Watch this monsoon moisture that is now creeping up out of Southern California, firing up thunderstorms not too far away from yosemite and around lake tahoe by tomorrow. But for us, its the low clouds and coastal fog that will keep at least one half of the bay looking relatively cool with the low clouds at times moving inland. And the inland locations, High Pressure giving us mostly sunny skies and the temperatures climbing up a few more degrees. So the shortterm forecast there looks mostly dry for us. We have some high clouds at times. But as High Pressure strengthens heading into monday, well see our temperatures inland getting close to 100 degrees. But by the middle part of the week, that high will move back toward the Desert Southwest which will bring in a stronger sea breeze to this bit of a warm wave not really a heat wave lasting for several days but just a couple of days. Temperatures in the upper 90s to near 100 degrees. Thats sunday into monday. By tuesday and wednesday, our temperatures should cool off considerably, even for our inland valleys by the middle part of the week. Tomorrow, warm out towards san jose. 87 degrees. 90s around saratoga and morgan hill. San francisco, close to 70. The warmest days of the week ahead likely for the end of the weekend into monday. San jose approaches 90 into monday. And then a big drop in the temperatures come tuesday and wednesday. For the north bay, highs near 90 in santa rosa. Pleasanton, 97 degrees. By monday, getting close to 100 degrees. It will take longer for the trivalley to cool down. Temperatures into the 90s by tuesday. By wednesday and thursday, the temperatures will drop off. The trend for the trivalley, repeated for the north bay as well. Highs here fairly toasty over the next few days. The temperatures starting to cool down as we head towards wednesday and thursday. So the heat that well experience towards sunol, pleasonton and livermore, will stick around for the first half of the workweek and then cooling off. 60s on the coast. Only in the bay area. You certainly dont expect to see that happening. Take a look at this. The surprising result of a slide Safety Inspection. And it just happened before the winds picked up. Well tell you about that coming up after the break. You know we all have seen those bouncy houses blow away. But take a look at this inflatable childrens slide flying through the sky. It was blown into the sky just before a carnival was set to open in nevada. A strong gust of wind picked up the slide, sent it flying. Witnesses say it got as high as 100 feet before finally falling back to the ground about 100 yards away. No one was inside the slide when it was carried away by the wind. It had just passed a Safety Inspection when that gust of wind picked it up. Talk about playing on an island, one Minor League Baseball stadium is bringing new meaning to the term. Take a look at these photos from modern woodman park in davenport, iowa. The stadium sits on the mississippi which crested yesterday sene feet above flood level. The stadium is fine. The games have gone on around all that water. Flood walls prevented it from coming in. The team even says sales have been pretty brisk for the fourth of july holiday. Amazing to see all that water. It will soon be a little bit more affordable to visit San Francisco. Starting tomorrow, parking at meters will be free on sundays in most parts of the city. Mayor ed lee says it will make San Francisco more affordable for visitors to come to the city. You will still have to pay along areas around the embarcadero and fishermans wharf. The surfer put the injured swimmer on his board here, took him to the shore to get first aid. You can see where he left a little bit of blood there on the side of that surfboard. The attack happened when the sevenfoot shark got caught on a fishing line near the Manhattan Beach pier. The victim was swimming nearby when the shark bit him in the ribs. The beach was temporarily closed. The shark disappeared back into the ocean after 20 minutes. Amazing. Very popular beach there. Nbc nightly news is coming up next.
