Quiet neighborhood in south san jose. It happened last night inside this home on eppling lane. Police say someone shot and killed a man in his late 20s or early 30s. Investigators are not releasing the name until his family has been notified. A neighbor who just moved in next door says shes scared. Me and my daughter was home alone so i had no suspicion that anything was going on next door. Sources tell us the home was used to grow marijuana, but police have yet to confirm that information. The homes owner tells us a father and his son rent the house. She also says she had no idea that marijuana was growing inside. A dramatic Helicopter Rescue in san joses allen park today. Came in as a 911 call this morning after a hiker fell some 40 feet off a cliff from eagle rock peak. Now, firefighters found the woman and were able to stabilize her, but they needed the citys specialized urban search and rescue team to get her out of there. For this incident we ordered two helicopters because we needed two services. One was a short haul hoist operation, and the second will be an air ambulance to ultimately get the patient to the ambulance. At this point police and rangers are investigating exactly how she fell. The Fire Department does describe her injuries as being significant. We have new details this evening on an act of heroism. Three teenage boys played hooky but ended up heroes. They saved a woman from a burning home in san ramon. Cheryl hurd joins us. Cheryl, curious to hear their story. Reporter well, raj, it is true. Those three boys were skipping class when they left California High School about 10 00 in the morning yesterday. But they saw smoke and ended up here on this street. Now, at first they started going through this front door, but there was too much fire and smoke, so they ended up going through this back gate and thats when a game of hooky turned to heroism. Starts turning on the hose. Shes on the phone with 911 and she asks us for our help. Reporter that someone turned out to be diana davis, the owner of this burning home on broadmore drive. When the three drove up, they saw davis in the garage on the phone calling for help. We asked the lady is anyone else in the house a couple of times. She didnt respond. Reporter eventually she said her 94yearold mother was inside. I just heard these words say in the house to the right. You know, we both just kind of had the same instinct to go in the house together, so we do. Reporter they ran into the fire and smoke and discovered an elderly woman sitting in a chair, suffering from burns and covered in soot. We picked up the chair and grabbed the dog. The one thing she said to us is im on fire. That just was shocking to me to hear that. Reporter bob smith, who lives across the street, had already been inside. He says his age and heavy smoke pushed him right back out. The elderly lady in there, shed have been gone in a minute and a half more. I dont think she could have survived. I went in there and i couldnt see my hand in front of my face, it was that bad. Reporter now, that 94yearold victim is at a burn center in San Francisco, st. Francis hospital. She is listed in critical condition. Now, coming up at 6 00, well hear from the principal of that school and his take on this whole ordeal may surprise you. This happened within the past few hours. The Oakland Police department teamed up with the fbi to search a home near 90th and bancroft streets. Theyre not releasing many details but heres what we know at this hour. Several people have been arrested. Officials will say the operations focus is illegal weapons. Now to a developing story out of seattle. Right now federal investigators are combing through that wreckage. Its a tv newschopper that crashed near the space needle, killing the crew inside. Nbcs janet kim joins us from the scene with the latest on the investigation and what went wrong. Reporter well, jessica, crews have pretty much cleared the scene. Right now they are taking the wreckage to the more controlled area so they can try to determine just what happened. A horrific scene was a news helicopter fell from the sky onto a downtown seattle street, slamming into at least two vehicles. It hit the ground and it burst into flames. It landed in between the red car and the gray tacoma truck. Reporter komotvs news helicopter crashed during takeoff from the fifth floor helipad next to the citys iconic space needle. It just kind of nose dove over the trees and crashes on the other side of the street there. Reporter witnesses say the helicopter sounded noticeably different before the crash. We heard the chopper rotors. We heard the noise of a problem. And then we heard the explosion as the chopper hit the ground. Reporter huge flames and plumes of black smoke poured from the burning wreckage as fuel from the crash burned down the street. Komo tv has identified those killed as longtime photographer bill strothman and pilot gary fitzner. At times like this we are reminded that the media, like of many us, are also public servants. A 38yearold man in one of the cars struck by the helicopter was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Were looking at everything. Were looking at the environment, the weather, the pilot, the operators in the helicopter as well as the helicopter itself. Reporter an investigation into what could have led to this deadly crash is under way. Now, ntsb says the preliminary report could take as much as a week. The final report as much as a year. Look again at how close he got to being hit by that train thats two stories tall and weighs crolose to a million pounds. Caltrain posted the video to show how quickly things can go wrong. That unidentified man was lucky, but three people have been struck and killed by caltrain this year, the most recent on sunday in atherton. The caltrain is Just One Agency seeing the problem of the on march 3rd. Jenna betty was killed in martinez. Police believe she was trying to obtain her cell train and couldnt escape the draft of the freight train. Danica garcia was killed when crossing the vta tracks across from her high school in san jose. The people in this video may have thought the train could stop or may not have realized at 79 miles an hour a bullet train can cover the length of a football field in less than three seconds. In san jose not far from where a 2yearold boy was killed by a train, a young mother gave us another reason. Sometimes the legal crossing is just far away. I usually cross it when im running late or whatnot i cross it, you know, to get by quicker. But when im with my baby, i tend to wait. To follow up on last weeks deadly shooting in castro valley, the victims husband, fung mi, vessurrendered last ni. He shot and killed his 45yearold wife. One of the couples two children discovered the body after coming home from school. Police say they have investigated previous reports of Domestic Violence at this home. A bay area soldier posthumously received the militarys highest award, one long overdue. His brother accepted the award on his behalf. He was killed during the korean war november 25th, 1950. He drove back hostile troops for an hour as grenades exploded around him. Moldonado was one of 20 soldiers of minorities that was passed over due to discrimination. No nation is perfect, but here in america we i object our imperfections and face our past. Including the truth that some of these soldiers fought and died for a country that did not always see them as equal. You can see out here in San Francisco we did have plenty of blue sky for today and the temperatures did warm up just as anticipated. 77 in san ramon, morgan hill also 76, looks like a mistake here but actually gilroy, san jose and palo alto all had the same temperature. It was very consistent across the bay, from the coastline right to the interior valleys. We had a north wind build in that helped everyone to warm up by 3 to 5 degrees. You can still see this north to northeasterly wind effect throughout napa and also livermore. Thats going to keep it clear not only for tonight but right around tomorrow morning. As you get a look outside of that sky camera network, Still Holding to mild temperatures in the south bay. Also the peninsula with sunny skies across the bay. Right now the one thing bugging you in the south bay is that high pollen and that wind that has increased as well. Well take you to some of the wind across San Francisco. You can see the camera shaking quite a bit, coming out of the south at 13 miles per hour. So a slight onshore flow but not expecting any fog with this. What we have happening thats creating some of this wind, at least right now, is the fact that we have High Pressure offshore. Then very close to that we have this trough of low pressure across the west. Just because those systems are so close together, its helping to ramp up the wind. So weve got the wind right now. As we head throughout thursday, High Pressure not going to go anywhere. Its going to stay mild and sunny as spring officially starts there on thursday. Then eventually by this upcoming weekend well get a frontal system moving in which will bring us potentially some rainfall in that extended forecast. Lets go ahead and get a look at the temperature trend. I think this will set the bar for how the week is going to go. You can see some of the warmest weather here throughout tomorrow. With still some wind in the atmosphere, the pollen is going to aggravate no doubt on wednesday, going to the moderate, close to high category in the forecast, that is something youll have to be concerned about. We also, yes, do have a chance of rainfall eventually getting here by sunday. A cold front approaches offshore and then we think as we head throughout next week totals dont look overlehigh but as the first wave begins to move through tuesday night and wednesday, we will at least pick up a tenth of an inch.
