Less than half in california graduate high school. A fraction of that college, but a north bay family is bucking the trend. Lets bring in nbc bay areas garvin tom what is our bay area proud series. Garvin . Raj, claudia says that theres part of her that likes proving people wrong, particularly when those people are underestimating the potential of children. In fact, wanting to prove one skeptical social worker wrong about a child is how claudia first became a foster mom, where she has gone and is going from there is tonights bay area proud. There is a home no navado that is bilingual, where mom, claudia, seamlessly blends fluent spanish and english with her kids. Still, there is one word that claudia seems to define different train the rest of us, regardless of the language. That word is enough lets start with claudia and husband, roys work as foster parents. It began 16 years ago when a teenager asked a thenjust 26yearold claudia to be her foster mom. She said yes. I dont know what i was thinking. Reporter what she didnt know was that she and roy would be great at it. That first foster child went on tocwl graduate college, a rare t for any foster kid. Not, it turned out though, for one of claudia and royspi÷ fos kids. One of their many foster children. About 90. A little bit more than 90. I think so, yeah. Reporter and heres where we get to enough. You would think caring so well for so many kids would be enough but claudia was finding that some of her children, after aging out of the system, struggled to balance life and school, particularly those who made it to community colleges. They still have to figure out where they are going to live, pay rent, eat, you know, every everything. I start noticing that a lot of the kids in foster care that made it to a community college, that they were not finishing. Reporter so, that is when claudia started thinking outside the box, or better yet, outside her home, to the one down the street. One that she now rents to former f auq kids needing a place to stay in order to stay on the path of success that claudia and roy have started them. And if that sounds like a big expense, it is. Its why claudia is in the process of creating her own nonprofit now called moving on up. She had a like to expand beyond the one home shes renting now and perhaps do still more,dn though clearly never enough. You know, theres a lot of times i sit and i say, why, like why god picked me . I dont know. Im not that religious. Im catholic but not super crazy catholic, you know . But i sometimes feel like that god just put me here really to take care of the kids that dont have love in their life. Reporter i did mention the four biological children they have together as well . As you can you can imagine, there is Something Special about the way she and roy manage their time, manage their money, manage their resources. Its incredible, when you look at it and the children they have taken, the challenges they have and where they have brought them. Not all suck set, im guessing . Foster children or biological, doesnt matter. But their rate of success is pretty darn high. Yeah, she has changed their lives for the better for sure. Thanks so much, garvin. Bring in chief meteorologist jeff ranieri, talking about weather nationally and locally, jeff. Across the west coast, the biggest thing i want to start off with and pinpoint, the in exthree to four days, the bulk of the rainfall will be up into the pacific northwest, fiveplus inches for them. Notice a little bit of green down here near the bay area. That is the potential here of a few showers in our forecast. Not happening tonight but it is looking beautiful outside of our Sky Camera Network here in San Francisco. Fog up against the immediate coastline, the possibility of some drizzle, onshore flow and that 5 to 10 miles per hour. So, lets take you into the storm track. We are going to see this moderate just a bit off to the south and it is very impressive out here. I mean, we are talking about a ton of storm systems, plenty of moisture that would produce heavy rainfall for us. As we mentioned, that storm track, it is going to moderate to the south, it is just not gonna moderate far enough to the south to give us any kind of major rainfall, so the bulk of this will be passing off to the north as we head throughout wednesday and thursdays forecast. But that possibility of showers is still in the overall trend here the next two to three days. So, for wednesday, most importantly, cloud cover will increase throughout the day. Take a look at this. Zone of green is gonna sort of build in throughout wednesday night, also into thursday morning. It is not a lot of rainfall, but right now the north bay has the best chance of some showers wednesday night also into early this will last until about 6 a. M. Down here across the santa clara valley. So again, a possibility of some rain drops in our future wednesday night and thursday. And heres overall what you can expect, that first possibility of showers about a 30 chance right now, overall totals, trace amounts to 5 to 7 inches, now coming into view, great news for us, not locked in right now, not a ton of rain, but a Second Chance of showers, 40 possibility here as we head throughout saturday night. Theres some high model disagreement with this, so we will continue to track that very closely, but again two chances of at least some showers with our Drought Conditions and the driest county here on record, definitely some much better news. Throughout our wednesday forecast, temperatures cool off, upper 50s to low 60s, san jose, 59, highlighting the peninsula, also San Francisco, increasing cloud cover throughout tomorrow, look here across the north bay, east bay and trivalley, also a round of upper 50s, low 60s, 59 in sass leetx toe, napa, 61. The east bay, run near 60 along the creek, 62 in livermore, increasing cloud cover. We should also note across all of our microclimates throughout quality we have had in about two weeks. So, with even just a few showers on the board for us, great news, you guys, since july 1st only two and 800ths inch of rainfall, right now, a rain deficit for the water year, nearly eight inches. Anything good news at this point. Yeah we just need some. Thanks, jeff. Sure. Just ahead, drought danger from a lack of rain is pushing one species closer to extinction. Von made the announcement today, a knee injury will prevent her from competing in sochi, russia. Here she is at the last winter games, four years ago in vancouver, winning two medals. Rescuers say this was one of, if not the most difficult rescue they have ever done. So the gliders in the tree but the glideee is out . Yes, thank goodness. At least it was kind of a soft landing, you know . Scary. Nice work by milpitas. Jeff, before we go, how we looking tonight and in the morning . Pretty good, the biggest difference for most people is the fog and the coastline, clouds around San Francisco and a slight chance of showers by tomorrow night. Even a few rain drops make me happy.
