You can always count on them being in san jose every year, but not this season. The ice rink will not be coming to town. Once we got that tip into her newsroom we sent robert honda out to talk to the sources and find out what is going on, what happened. Robert what are you hearing at this point . Reporter yes must be kind of a shock for people to hear that because it has not been announced by the city yet but it is true that the downtown holiday ice rink will not be here this season basically what happened was the operator who ran this last year just did not feel like there was enough business to justify coming back this year you have to remember in 2020, christmas in the park and ice rink were canceled because of covid and last year all those concerns were still lingering in fact christmas in the park went mobile at history park and the ice rink was lagging because of that and in fact the hotel which we are standing next to was actually closed permanently at this time last year because they were going through a change in ownership it is now the hilton but also all those things combined even though things are improving again for the owner and the operator they just didnt think it was worth coming back this year. Im sure this is a bummer for so many families i know you have been speaking to people out there all day how are people reacting . Well, first of all they are a little bit surprised some people say they were not as a prize because they went through the covid experience of having it shut down a couple years ago but for the most part people really do depend on it being kind of a staple of the Holiday Season so they were very disappointed the Downtown Association is planning to replace it with some other activities rward to the chance it return next year. Looking forward to what those activities are, thank you so much, looking forward to your story at 6 pm tonight.
